Have a look at the website for the Friesian horse--you might find it
very interesting! http://www.imh.org/imh/bw/friesian.html
Friesians are one of the oldest European breeds, and they originate from
a spot not horribly far from Brabant. They're big and black and very
striking.

Names? Something French, of course. Jongleur? (bard, magician) Could be
good for a horse with a mind of its own. Minuit (midnight)?

Hope this helps!

Of course. After all, merely killing doesn't work unless we use a stake,
fire or behead the offender and that's so messy. :

I don't see Nick participating but Schanke and Myra might and in so doing
drag Nick into it. . or maybe a murder could force Nick into going
undercover.

I always thought something like Medieval Times would make an excellent
backdrop to a plot. but having not ever gone to anything like myself and
since all the the one person I knew who did go could only talk about
was what they gave her for dinner (chicken) I wouldn't have a clue where
to start.

Okay, I asked my dad for a trip for my b-day/grad
gift, and now I have to pick where I want to go. I am
putting a call out to all that know, asking for more
"insider" info on toronto. I know Sars is stuck in the
hospitals right? So that wouldn't be an issue? Or
what? And where would you suggest a low budget 20 year
old to stay by themselves in TO? Any area's to avoid?
and what about trying to see the FK sites?

I need to know all this *before* I even bring it up to
my dad, who will pay for my trip, and give me money
for when I am there.

oh yeah, Off-list responces are the best of course!

I had the same idea and the same problem. I wanted
to have Nick and Nat go to Medieval Times (there is
one in Toronto) but I wouldn't know where to start,
either. Maybe it could be a collaborative effort? Or
not, but anyway, it's a good idea.

Funny enough, I actually have one started.<g> (involving Schanke and
Natalie, taking place after the first season ep Hunters) But it kind
of got side-tracked when another idea popped in my head.

That's no problem: have Nick or Nat learn the words 'farb' and 'farby'
(jargon for ' really, horribly historically incorrect') and then Nick
can provide a running commentary (hopefully humorous) on everything that
they're doing wrong. Or have to constantly bite his tongue or keep
himself from laughing at the historic inaccuracies that he sees, and
come very near to blowing his cover.

No, I haven't done Medieval Times, but I've heard about it.

I have been to a Medieval Times sort of place and historically, it was
dreadful. Entertaining, yes, but don't go there expecting any insights
on medieval life.

For a more genuine experience, watch a Brother Cadfael mystery. They
strike me as fairly well researched (outside of having a medieval CSI
right where all those murders occur!)

If you are looking for info on Medieval Times you can ask me... one of my
friends has worked for the one in Jersey for 10 years now and I believe
he is the general manager when he is not playing the King. A bunch of my
friends have worked there or do work there. I've always wondered what
LaCroix would do there... hehehehe

Though Vachon would be most at home there I would think, seeing as
Misdeal Times is a Spanish owned company all the horses are Andelusians
and the trainers are from Spain also. Hmmmmm wonder what would happen is
Vachon got a job there? I know the one in Jersey doesn't have any windows
or skylights so it could be possible. Even if he did it for a laugh and
to point out how wrong most of the stuff is. Could be fun.

Email me if you want any info.

I thought that was 'Curiouser and Curiouser' and he and Janette were
supposedly married. I seem to remember he got upset and left the
apartment and ended up in the Raven with Cohen or at Natalie's
apartment where she was supposedly his 'boss' and having an affair.

I know this is a little off topic but is this the breed of horse ridden by
Rutger Hauer in LadyHawke??? (Yet another gorgeous blond guy that once played a

Yes, that was a Friesian. They are handsome horses, one of the few
baroque breeds (along with Andalusians, Lusitanos, and Lipizzaners).
These breeds are some of the oldest in Europe.

There's someone who just bought a Mini that I know, and they had it painted a

thought of was the Caddy!

Love the little car, but can't imagine Nick getting into it. What kinda
trunk space does it have??

ROTFL! I don't know about Nick, but I can see Lacroix slipping right
into that role, no problem! And for once, a member of the self-appointed

I have.. IT can be a fun time if you understand what you are going to see is
a show... No historical accuracy at all... (having both done SCA dn Mid
Times for fun)... (Well I like to look at the really gorgeous knight on
horesback too, But I digressss..... DRROOOL

ANYWAY back on to topic, I like the idea of a story with NAt conning Nick to
go with her to see the show... Maybe Nick gets jeaous when one of the cute
knights picks natalie to be his maiden and take her favor....HEHEHE Oh the
possibilities....

And the running commentary.. Oh this could be sooooo funny...> there it is

True Nick did leave the apartment with Janette on the stairs with the baby
crying. When he was with Cohen, she ran the bar. Natalie was the chief and
apparently he was an affair with her. He was having a breakdown thinking he was
a vampire and LaCroix enjoying every minute of it. The pain and suffering.

If you're thinking about a first trip to TO, you might want to consider
going to LCA (Lights, Camera, Auction) in September. There will be plenty
of other FK fans there. If you or anyone else might be interested, check
out the website:

http://mpica.org/LCA6/main.htm

It's a LOT of fun, and you wouldn't have to be alone on your first foray
into the city. Both times I've gone, somebody or other has gotten together
an FK tour. Unfortunately, it was usually before or after my stay, so I
have yet to go on an FK tour myself. The hotel is usually close to the
airport, so you're still a ways out of the city proper, but there's always
public transportation or friendly fans with cars. <G> I seem to recall
that one group went on a side trip to Niagara Falls one year.

I recommend a trip to LCA for any fan. You get to meet a lot of nice people
from this list, and you'll have a BALL! <G>

That's a good idea. If you can get a roommate, the cost of the hotel room is
quite reasonable---with the added feature of the general insanity. <g>

If you don't want to go in September, or prefer not to go to LCA, consider a
B&B right in the center of Toronto. I've stayed in B&Bs twice---once just off
Yonge Street, near Maple Leaf GArdens, and the other time near the University
of Toronto. The cost is quite reasonable, especially considering there is still
quite a favorable exchange rate US/Can dollar. Based there, you can easily walk
and take the subway to many major TO attractions. You can call the Toronto B&B
organization to get recommendations and make reservations---they ask your price
range, location preferences, and then list the ones available. I really enjoyed
these places.

Marg Yamanaka runs the FK tours. Get in touch with her to find out if she can
find time in her busy schedule to take you around. It's great!

Allow me to put in a plug for the latest edition of the Crusader, at
www.nancykam.com/crusader, where you'll find an article about traveling in
Toronto.
