Okay, now I'm stuck with the image of LaCroix
mowing the lawn in ratty old cut offs and sneakers
turned green from many mowings. Even imagining
him shirtless, this is not a good look for him.

Hi Y'all!

Okay, y'all you've brought be out of lurkdom today!

First, McLisa wrote:

So, *this* is how LC got away when Nick staked him with that flaming
board in Dark Knight! He stopped, dropped and rolled right out of his
clothes and out of the camera range. <G>
Hey, this could open a whole new thread. What "classes" should new
vampires be required to attend?

Then Libs wrote:
>he's much too old and powerful to ever want to borrow the lawn mower.

To which Laurie of the Isles responded:
> the image of LaCroix mowing the lawn in ratty old cut offs and sneakers

These had me laughing like crazy. It's a good thing I wasn't drinking
anything when I read these or someone would owe me a keyboard! But I do
hope Laurie meant that LC would be dressed like this at night. Even
though he's too old and powerful to burn I really think he would probably
eventually "implode" rather than sunburn really bad if he mowed the lawn
during the daylight.

I joined the fiction list in 1996 and forkni-l in 1997. ( I suppose
that's one good thing that came out of my house being burglarized in
1996. The insurance money allowed me to buy a computer with a modem!)

Anyway thanks for the smiles!

Strangely enough, I had a vision of LC simply glaring out the window and the
grass shrinking back into the ground out of sheer terror. No need for a mower!

I don't think he would care about his lawn
besides he would have to mow at night
and that would annoy a few of the neighbors (all the noise)
soon they'd come with pitchforks & weapons

A short list of the top of my head

Vampire basics 101
avoid sunlight, wooden stakes, fire
Explain about the Enforsers & what they do
Maybe ask if anyone wants to be an Enforser
Maybe a seperate class
"Enforser training" 101

Hypnatisam 101
Avoid the stake 101
FIRE, the acient eneimy
A seminer about bringing someone over
(snacks will be served)

Another thought

The Enforsers are some kind of Super-vampire
Do they maybe have some pre-requirements
(before you can take "Enforser training" 101)

You have to be a certin age (1000 yrs old maybe)
I assume you have to go through some special training
Like going to "cop-school" or in the millitary
with a series of obstical courses & tests

But, like MIB, I'm sure they only take the best of the best

Passing for Mortal 200, 300, 400, & 500. To pass the 500-level class,

I always felt they were probably independent "death squads" myself;
free-roaming, responsible to nobody but themselves, and strong simply
because of their numbers and intimidation of vampires and mortals alike.
They are tolerated by the other vamps solely because they confine their
activities to enforcing the code.

But that's just me.

Classes aimed for the young female vampire:

Cosmetology 101: Forever Winter! Learn to cope with your new, pale complexion,
with makeup tips from Myra Schanke, Skin Pretty representative.

Fashion 101: New vampires tend to go overboard with the Goth look---learn how
to resist the urge to wear velvet, leather, and chains outside your favorite
nightclub! Study the classic styles, such as the Chanel "little black dress,"
to stretch those wardrobe dollars over several decades while you build up your
investment nestegg. A three-day seminar presented by Janette DuCharme, ending
with a fashion show at the Raven.

Sleight-of-Hand 101: Do you still have to attend dinner with your mortal
friends? Learn how to palm, manipulate, and otherwise make disappear the food
on your plate with these basic techniques used by magicians the world over.
Required supplies: plastic baggies with built-in zip-loc closings. Optional:
family dog to sit under the table. You'll need this when the whammy is just not
practical! Presented by Nicholas Knight.

You're not the only one with those beliefs. I tend to beleive in a vampire
government, run by elders like Lacroix. I always thought the Enforcer's were
a specially bred group created (or possibly they evolved) to mete out vamp
justice. If you look closely ( no not that close! <weg>) they seem to have
larger teeth and I think baser personalities then other vamps. My two cents.

Yup. That was the name used for release-to-video, etc. Sounds more like the
B-movie it was/parodied.

>I've heard the movie pokes fun at the B-type 50's science fiction thriller
>without mercy, and is great fun.

I enjoyed it, sort of, but most of the group I saw it with (many of whom
are regulars on this list) considered it... well, unworthy of Nigel's
talents. There's definitely a lot of gender- and gender-role-bending in it,
and some interesting Christological imagery that was not intended *as*
such, but which (to me) made the movie reminiscent of those works our high
school English teachers would have had us tear apart critically for a month
or so of class time...

>And as you can imagine from the above, the FX ain't too bad either.

As I recall, there's really very little in the way of effects other than
that sequence, a couple of pair of contact lenses, and the usual dead
bodies/gratuitous gore.

Wow, no kidding, Laurie!

I just watched STF yesterday, and I must agree. Cannot bring immediately to
mind other ep titles, but I recall the Enforcers being single minded, and
seemingly driven by some other force.

IMHO, that force was not an intellectual one!!

I have to agree here. They're obviously chosen for brawn over brains! The only
convincing fanfic enforcers I've run into are the dynamic duo Bruno and Mack. I

good question: exactly *how* does one call the enforcers? Do they have a
hotline or 911 sort of thing? What would they do about stupid young vamps
making crank calls from payphones? What about before telephones? Did they,
like, yodel or something? I don't imagine vampires had much better
communications than we did a hundred years ago.

They "KNOW" if you've been bad or good.

Interesting question! I think the impression I got was that he was going to
kill her, but I don't know exactly why I thought that. I don't think it was
ever explicitly stated that this was his intention. His exact words were
something like, "I will deprive you of the woman you love, or I will deprive
her of you." Killing her would be the most obvious way of "depriving" Nick
of her, although bringing her across against his wishes would certainly take
away the humanity that he values in Nat. And Lacroix's bargain with Nick was
equally obscure: "I will take from you what you have taken from me." Hmmm.

I know this is about as clear as mud and just as well-organized, but maybe
someone else can do better. ;)
