This is only FK-related in the sense that if I don't get help, I can't
write to this list any more! I just (like, as in 5 minutes ago) spilled
a whole mug of tea into my computer keyboard. I am completely ignorant
of all technical things, so I have no clue how to clean it. I guess it
hasn't gotten into anything important (yet) as I can still use the
keyboard - but how do I get it cleaned out? The tea had honey in it, so
it will get sticky pretty soon as it starts to dry.

Moral of this story? NO DRINKS NEAR THE PC!

I am posting this to the list so others can benefit from the information. I
don't want people to lose the capability of writing more stories!

If your keyboard still works turn your pc off immediately and unplug the
keyboard! I had a person at work fry their pc from spilling a drink down
their keyboard. I had to rebuild their pc and replace their keyboard.

Now if it truly still does work, you can actually soak it (water only!) and
loosen up whatever is in there, BUT after soaking it for awhile and washing the
tops (again just use water ) of the keys turn it upside down and let as much
water drain out and then shake it while it is upside down to get as much water
out of it as possible then turn on its end ( prop it up against something so it
will stay that way) and let the rest of the water drain out. You won't be able
to use it until it is completely and I mean completely dry. That will
probably take a few days.

That means you won't be able to use your pc for a few days until your keyboard
dries unless you can borrow one from somewhere.

If you live in the states, walmart is selling a new keyboard for 9.95. It's
the plug and play type. perhaps that could help?

Subject: Website domain problems

I've registered the domain www.starbase-eprime.us which is working now. I
received an e-mail from the previous registrar of www.starbase-eprime.com and
they said it takes 40 days to delete a domain, which means it won't be working
until July, unless I can get them to speed up the process. My old FK fiction
links should work. The site's still on Geocities, I just upgraded my account.
If any of the old links don't work, please let me know. I can send you a copy
of the story, or the new link to that page.

Subject: FKFanFic2 possibly having to close!

I know many of you emailed me about FKFanFic2 no longer being on the Crosswinds
host. Here's why: they did a routine sweep and deleted the archive because it
*might* violate their copyright rules. I now have no place to host the archive
(at 25 megs and getting bigger) and don't hardly have the funds to pay for
hosting (which my server lock-net.com would do) and a domain name.

I will have to let the archive disappear unless someone can save it. I've been
all over the web looking for free hosts, but none have the megabytes of space
I'll be needing, and they don't allow outside cross linking (putting the site on
one server and the fics on another, then linking between them)

Can anyone help? I dearly want to keep the archive functioning and would gladly
do so if I could find a way to keep it on the internet.

Thank you,
Anita

Geocities gives you 25 megs free. You have to put up with their annoying ads
for the free sites but their service is pretty good. And they don't delete
sites as far as I know...mine's been there since 1996.

That would be great, except that the site is already at 25 megs, and I plan
on allowing more fiction, so that'll keep growing (really, that's a good
thing!) Unless I could figure out how to get a section for like every letter
of the alphabet and string them together, but I'm not that good yet to know
how that would work. Thank you, though, it might turn out that I'll have to
cross-link or something. <shrug>

Excellent Mary! I couldn't even tolerate hearing Vetter's name until I read
your fiction and visited your site a couple of years ago. Now pink, if it's
dark, is an ok color. Good job.

Do you have the site somewhere now? Or is it down? I have some software
that I can use to copy the whole site down and save it until we can figure
out where to put it.

Let me know the link and I will download the entire site tonight. I am at
work now and just telneted into my account and I don't have the link at
work.

If you have anymore updates after tonight, email the stories to me and I
will add it to the archive.

I have it all backed up on CD and in my hard drive (I learned NEVER to have
one copy of ANYTHING!) But thanks! And I'm tracking down a possible
permanent host, as well as a temporary one in the meantime. I'll tell
everyone the links when I get them. I have been going crazy these past few
months trying to find a new host, and now it might all be over!

Oh m'god,

Cousin Mary, your comics are sooo funny. I cracked up at
'Nat's plan B'. Your page looks very professional yet
very entertaining. Keep up the good work, girl!

Cheers,
Sunny

If you can scrape up $7.95/month, www.addr.com is my host. You get 200MB of
space and there's no set-up fee.

My own FK fanfic is still on Tripod, just linked through my own site now.

I don't know if it is a possibility, but IMO the best
place to put a site is on your own computer. If you have
Windows 2000 professional you can turn your own computer
into a server and put your site there, that's where I'm
keeping mine. There are no ads, no copyright checks, and
all you have to pay is like $30.00 a year for a domain
name (not even that if you use cjb.net) I found it very
easy and useful. Of course you need your C drive to be
completely free and devoted to your site.

Wished I had enough space in my computer to help you host
the site. As it is now, I'd have to format soon or my
site will soon choke my PC.
