I agree completely. I think it COULD be done, with a new cast, new story,
yet keeping the basic elements which draw us in and keep us there.
Nick and Lacroix's life and times could be ledgenardy among the new story
cast and so it ties in, much like ST does with each of it's Generations and
spins.

To find a cultured, not too 'hollywood pretty' cast...which i think in a way
attracts veiwers too.

The storylines can be amazing with a good writer and with a bit of money
behind them. They could make a really good show.

I watched yesterday's ep, "Bad Blood", again today. In the scene where
O'Neal goes to the Raven, he puts a cross on Miklos' head, and it doesn't
burn him! So it stands to reason that he's a mortal.
I've always thought he was a vampire.
Any other thoughts on the subject?

I'm game. I think the show's premise was extremely fascinating and enthralling,
and so much could be done with it. Heck, look at what we've done with it in the
fic! "g" And with the loosening of the censors, think how much more of the murky
underworld of the vampire could be explored -- the moral ambiguities, the
amorality, the complex relationships, the violance and sensuality; and on the
human side, the grittier side of crime, the temptation and repugnance, etc.
But, considering my perception of a vampiric anarchic society, I would hope
they'd avoid developing a "Kindred" kind of power structure. And, of course, I
would hate for the show to revel in the above seamy explorations; what made the
show so fascinating for me was the struggle between "dark and light," and,
frankly, the hope that light would someday, some way win. :o) Basically, Nick's
continued struggle to determine his own course and to redeem himself, despite
overwhelming odds and temptations, despite powerful and cruel opposition,
despite humiliating and devastating failures, thoroughly captivated and moved me.
And, of course, having LaCroix be such a complex, intriguing, mult-leveled, and
powerful nemesis didn't hurt none either! "g" Of all of the recurring
characters, I think Nigel would be most effective in making cameos.

Subject: Re: new series

I've been through new series twice for ones I had loved and ending by not liking
either, for different reasons.

The first was ST:TNG. I was in college when the original ST was in first run on
NBC. I watched the first episode of the new show, but it just didn't grab me.
In fact, there were a couple of characters I hated so much I never wanted to see
them again, plus I didn't like the new concept of families and what amounted to
a whole town aboard. I think I could have gotten used to that, had those two
characters not been present.

The second was the new Dark Shadows. I was a major fan of the original DS when
it was new. Dan Curtis took the opposite tack from ST:TNG. He took the same
characters, rewrote them and updated the time frame. I hated that so much that I
watched exactly half an hour of the first episode I was able to sit down with. I
remembered the original characters at least as well as I remembered my college
classmates. I took one look at a Maggie who was a shady psychic (at least,
that's what I think I recall) and having an affair with Roger Collins, of all
people, and turned off the tv. I never came back. It hadn't helped that I'd
been seeing a commercial in which Ben Cross as Barnabas stood on the lawn at
Collinwood snivelling about how "I could not help it." Jonathan Frid's Barnabas,
a characterization I still admire, had done many things, but he'd never, ever
snivelled. :)

So, if there were to be a new FK set in the same universe but with different
characters, I would give it a try. I don't think I could bear watching someone
try to update/remodel the characters I know. I had quite enough of that when USA
couldn't handle a strong, ethical Natalie and turned her into the last season's
dependent kvetch.

Maybe he's supposed to be a mortal thrall, like you read about in some other
vampire mythos. Or maybe he's a dhampir (or is that a gender specific term,
like hinny for a female mule?). Or maybe he is some other supernatural creetur,
like a shape-shifter or...um...a ghoul or a demon or a pan-dimensional traveler
or (somebody stop me!!!!!!)....

Maybe he is mortal. But I kinda hope he isn't....

I think that if the chracters were as well created as the originals, then we
probably would find it as addictive. Of course there would have to be good
writing and acting as well.

And if you really stop to think about the original characters, the one that
we knew the least about - Natalie, is the one that has the most fanfic

As much as I would hate to see other people play these parts too, it happens.
People the age of my parents have watched many many remakes of old wonderful
black and white movies or series. Like Buck Rogers, and Superman. Some hit
and some miss. Most teenagers today have no idea that half the movies they
see or love are remakes of older films.

Being a fan of the old Dark Shadows series. I looked forward to seeing the
"new" Dark Shadows. I hoped it would continue the story and instead all it
did was repeat the same story already told. We don't want remakes with new
people. We want a continuation of the old series or at least somthing that
connects it to the old one. A large group of Star Trek fans have embraced
series after series and those scenes that show people from former series in
the new one are scenes that help make that transition.

My choices would be in order:

1. Figure out how to bring back the original cast and make it work (many of
us are more than willing to put blinders on in the face of a few gray hairs
or a few extra pounds. A lot of us have them too :)

2. a spin off with our favorites poping in and out occasionally.

3. a new show with new people playing our same characters but not a remake.
New stories, new hurdles to overcome.

One thing for sure we shouldn't let Forever Knight sink into oblivion. The
fans keep this show alive on reruns and memories and wonderful fan fic. I
myself would have never gotten into this wonderful world if it hadn't been
for fan sites and fan fic.

Thanks to all who make FK what it is. It a nice place to escape to from RL.

Also, what are the main/best tourist attractions in Toronto? Would the

Union Station? What is the big white dome thingy (sorry, I have no idea

Which, if you think about it does sound pretty unbelievable. "I'm blind and I
steer the ship."

Then I started to watch it. Once they finished rewriting classic Trek scripts
and went out on their own, I got hooked. It's still one of my favorite series
because of the characters (and the actors that gave them life).

<<I know the folks on this forum would give anything carrying the Forever

I give ANY show that catches my curiosity or interest a shot. If I like it, I
go back. If I see it has potential and needs a little work I'll stick with
it, especially if that was the pilot ep. I've seen many shows start out a
little rough and turn out to be true gems when they get everything working
the way they want it to. Star Trek Next Gen and MacGyver are two examples.

I think if a new one was done with respect to what's already been done, then
it would have a good chance. They could mention the characters we know and
love, or have phone calls and letters from them. I know it's a little cheesy
but it would work for those with very demanding schedules. And a flashback
now and then would be cool.

These days I'm enjoying Angel far more than Buffy, and it's been that way for
quite a while now. I'm not even watching all the Buffy eps these days. To
quote Willow - Bored Now.

What if the new FK show was set as Nick and Nat's grown children? What if it
was Vachon and his band of vampire children (old or new)? What if whoever it
is knew the old cast and would mention them from time to time, giving us the
update we want, without ignoring the past. I would say to set it in the
past, but historical series don't go over too well with a few exceptions like
Xena.

only watch it if he were shirtless and sweating half of

And my immediate gut reaction was: What's so unusual about that? Which in
turn made me realise just how *spoilt* I am as an FK fan to be British and
surrounded by not only sites Nick would have known as a mortal, but LaCroix
also!

So, just to make all our New World members really jealous, try this brief
resume:
I was born and raised just a few miles from Windsor Castle, and there's a
Saxon (i.e. pre 1066 Battle of Hastings) (sneaking in a quick FK reference
there!) church just across the road from the infant and junior schools I
attended. Nowadays, I live about six miles from the ruins of Berkhamsted's
Norman castle (where the last Saxon heir to the English throne surrendered
to William the Conqueror's representative in 1066). And St Albans, the
Roman city of Verulamium and which comes complete with amphitheatre ruins,
is six miles in the other direction! ('Course, General Lucius would have
known it as a very new city - it was destroyed by Boudicca in 69AD, so he
might well have seen it during the ensuing rebuilding....) In betweentimes,
I lived in London....

(Never mind how difficult it is to get anything FK related on our tv sets -
just look at the scenery!)

I agree. The new series was horrible the first season. As time went by it
got so much better the finale was just awesome. Each series afterwards was
good and bad in its own right but I wanted to live in that universe. I knew
enough to know there were many Star ships and space stations in the Trek
universe so I adapted and enjoyed them all. If Forever Knight comes back we
all have to give it a chance. It takes time for stories todevelope and
writers to become really attatched to their characters. But I know this
there are many vampires with stories of their own. Lost loves and hopes. Not
all Vampires are just killers. Look at the feelings even LaCroix displayed
at the end. I do want to live in the Forever Knight universe again..... at
least be able to escape from RL to FK world from time to time. I would hope
that if it was remade it wouldn't become just a scary blood bath sort of
show. FK was all about love and romance. Action, adventure, heroics and
most important, for me, a huge desire of Nick's to be forgiven.
Boy am I on a sopa box today......

I think FK could work as a sequel, even if you did it Next Gen style. One of
the things that had me hooked on Star Trek ever since I saw the classic re-run
was the underlying theme, which has never really changed. That's what makes
Star Trek work (for us fans, at least). The cast changed, the locations changed,
but the theme remained the same.

If they do a FK sequel with another cast, there is a risk of losing some fans
who want everything exactly like it was before. But I think as long as they
stick to the main plot and the themes which made FK a great show in the first
place, it'll do well. When TV shows like Buffy, Angel, Smallville and Charmed
are popular, I'd think that a new show in that genre would be a big hit.

Or it could be normal, human instinct on his part. At least, I know I tend to
flinch when something's shoved in my face the way that cross was his.

Janette needs one mortal around, who's in the know about the customers and can
be trusted not to tell, to deal with daytime stuff, hunters (surely Liam isn't
the only one who stumbled onto them) and other things that vampires can't. Even
unruly vamps if he has a few crosses of his own in his pockets. Miklos would
fill this role nicely.

Didn't somebody on here say that Miklos was written as a vampire in the first ep
and as a mortal in the second one? Maybe he knows something Nat doesn't. <G>

Gee, sorry to disappoint you, Tim, but I guess my mind isn't all that open
<g>. I'm a fan of StarTrek, the Original Series, and I think it had a
brightness and humor to it that I don't find in any of the spinoffs. IMO,
the spinoffs often take themselves way too seriously. It would be so easy
for a spinoff series of Forever Knight to get so heavy and serious. I
wouldn't want to see a Forever Knight without that somewhat perverse sense
of humor that the show has.

Besides, I don't want to have to go around saying, "Forever Knight, the
Original Series." For me, the title, "Forever Knight", only belongs to one
show.

interesting story telling.

Yes. I understand. Tastes will differ. I personally don't care
much for the new Enterprise, but I did like Next Generation pretty well
and DS9 a lot.
A new show will have to stand on its own merits.
There will be people who like it and folks who don't.
FK did have its moments of humor, but did also have "serious
drama" with issues and things that weren't very funny. I think they
balanced things well and I would like to see that in any future version.
> For me, the title, "Forever Knight", only belongs to one show.
Agreed. That is why I like the title Eternal Night.
It is obviously related, yet something that is different.

I seem to remember that someone was writing a paper on
the effort fans made to save FK or another show. Does
anyone know who that person was? Or do you know of
anything similar? Please let me know:

With the occasional conversations that pop up here concerning trying to
protect our fanfic and sites from the TPTB, I thought the following article
from the SciFi Channel Newsletter #254 might be of interest.

Fan Site Advice Now On Web
technology civil liberties group and a set of law school clinics have
launched a Web site aimed at telling fans how their online rights stack up
against corporations intent on protecting trademarks, C|net.com reported.
ChillingEffects.org is an educational resource for Internet denizens to
learn about their rights related to cease-and-desist letters, such as those
sent by studios to fan Webmasters of The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire
Slayer sites.

The site is set up by the Electronic Frontier Foundation and law school
clinics at Stanford, Harvard, the University of California at Berkeley and
the University of San Francisco. The project aims to provide basic legal
information about ongoing issues related to copyright, trademark and domain
names, defamation, anonymous speech and the Digital Millennium Copyright
Act, C|net reported. Organizers told C|net that they are placing
cease-and-desist notices in a database for the site.

I went to the site and the url is www.chillingeffects.org. It looks like
they might have some useful information.

Subject: A new FK website

Hi all,
This message is to announce the launch of my new Forever
Knight website. I've been working on it for a long time
and finally, it's good enough to show it to the fandom.
Here is the address:

www.lacountess.com/FKmain.html

The page might take a while to load (it is stored on my
local machine) so please be patient. Note that there is a
link on the page to a similar, less graphically intense
version of my site, so if you feel uncomfortable
looking/reading/loading the high-graphic version, you can
go there.

The main section is my writings and stories. It includes
my fanfic, my FK jokes and my essay about the fandom.

Please take a look and let me know what you think. It's a
small site now but I'll be working on it further and will
add more to it in the future. Also, if you see any
problems, please let me know.

Thanks and cheers
Sunny LaCountess

That was me, I wrote an article for a 4th year arts and
activism course about FK. You can find it in the
'writings and stories' section of my site, at:

http://www.lacountess.com/Stories.htm

Scroll down to the Essays section. It is called
"Subcultural Warriors: discussing identity and activism
in the Forever Knight Fan culture" and is in MS Word
format. If you click and the browser asks you for a
password, just click cancel and it will show up.

BTW, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the
great fans who helped me with this paper. You guys were
of so much help. There were some articles suggested to me
that I read, but didn't mention in my essay. That doesn't
mean they were overlooked, everything you sent me was a
big help. Thanks a lot.

KC pleaded for tourist information on Toronto, and other
Canadian cities.

I've mentioned this before, and I'll bring it up again.
Get a tour book for Toronto! I've got the Fodor's Guide
and it's a wellspring of information. It's got maps,
pictures, and information about all the attractions. I
use it when my personal knowledge of Toronto fails me.

Or--simply go online for info. There're official Toronto
tourism sites that cover a lot of the same information.

And---that white domey thing is the Skydome, the covered
baseball stadium. <g>

Subject: Re: new series

Maybe... but I don't think so. For starters, people keep comparing FK to
ST:TNG, which is like comparing apples to oranges. FK was a highly
charecter-driven show (at least the first two seasons were), all about
exploring the light and the dark in the world and in a person. To me,
that's what made it so facinating and why it hurt so much when it ended: the
fact that you felt like you *knew* these people, and they were *real*
people, not just charecters in a show. We each saw a reflection of
ourselves in the charecters, and of our own daily struggles in many of the
situations and dilemas our friends faced; we mourned for them when
dissapointment and tragidy struck, and cheered when things turned out right.
Star Trek, on the other hand, has always been a story-driven show, with
little in-depth charecter development. (I can say that because our family
used to watch ST:TNG together every night, so I've seen every episode at
least once.) While it was a lot of fun, it's appeal had limits-- there's
only so much you can get out of each story-- which is why I'm still watching
re-runs of FK and not ST. The third season of FK (which is generally
considered to be of poorer quality) was also mostly story-driven. I think
it would be cool if we could convince TV producers to come out with
something comprable in charecter and theme complexity as FK, but I wouldn't
bet on it. They're too preoccupied with their ratings to worry about
producing deep, intelegent shows.
