I'm in Chicago - count me in! Sounds like a great idea, esp. since I
rarely have the time or the money to go somewhere else (like SD) for one.
feel free to contact me offlist about anything also.

Subject: Story Credit/Endings

I have 12 stories that I have no idea who wrote. I'd prefer to have
some kind of credit on them so I'd know who did write them. I'm
listing the title and first line of each of them (and an e-mail
address if there was one) in the hopes that someone will recognize
the story they wrote (or that they know who did write it) and e-mail
me off-list and let me know.

I also have 9 stories that just stop in the middle of things. No
matter how or where I download them, they have never had an ending...
I'm posting those titles and authors (where I have them) and the last
bit I have. If you have an ending, please let me know off-list.

Subject: Ger's My Fair Lady - a preview report (long)

Sunday Apr 21 was the Stratford Festival's annual Open House. Locals
were invited to tour the Festival Theatre backstage area and the Costume
Warehouse to get a first glimpse of the current production year's sets
and costumes.

The first view of the main stage was the ballroom set for MFL. The
theatre's famous 'thrust' stage was covered and extended right to the
edge of the audience seating. At the back of the stage are 2 elegant
curved staircases leading up to the stage balcony.

After a short talk about the theatre's unique arrangement, we entered
the depths of the backstage area through one of the 'vomitoria'.
Stratford is unusual in that it makes all of its own costumes, wigs,
shoes, and props. Each principal actor has his or her own dressmaker's
dummy and pattern file. I saw Eliza's (Cynthia Dale) flower girl
costume and several elegant gowns for the historical plays. After
watching a wig-making and boot-making demonstration we were led to an
area with some racks of costumes that we were allowed to try on and pose
for photographs.

Stage two of the tour was the Festival's Costume Warehouse. In a
nondescript building about a mile from the theatre, the Festival stores
some 30,000 costumes and props all carefully inventoried and
computerized. These are an important source of revenue for the Festival
as it rents the costumes out to theatre companies and movies and TV
shows all over North America. Racks of clothing for the current year's
productions, including MFL were awaiting shipment to one of the four
theatres in Stratford.

Back at the main Festival theatre, I toured through their gift shop and
was very pleased to see that Ger's CD, Bar Talk, is prominently featured
among other CDs of the Festivals own productions.

For those who may not already know about it, Ger will be playing the
part of Henry Higgins in MFL from July 14 to Sept 14 2002. He shares the
role with Colm Feore (Walken in Blood Money)(May 4 to July 13) and
Stratford Artistic Director Richard Monette (Sept 15 to Nov 4).

Those of you who have responded that you're interested
is getting together in Chicago sometime this summer
will shortly receive an invitation to a yahoogroup
called "fkchicago."

So as not to clog up the mail list with discussions,
we will use the new group to discuss the who, what,
where, when, why, and how's of it.

If anyone else is interested, you can always go to

  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fkchicago/

and request to join. If you're undecided or not sure
if you'll be able to go, you should still join and add
your input.

McLisa - can we cross-post this to FKFIC-L? I know
that there are some people who only subscribe to the
fiction list, and may also be interested.

Regards to all,
Carla

A British miniseries that followed a group of vampire hunters in
modern day London.
Similar to Forever Knight, it did more than have people running
around staking vampires, it did have some very interesting paradoxes
about what is considered "life" and played with the idea that from a
vampire's perspective, they are being persecuted and killed by direct
order of the State - a condition that many other minorities have found
themselves in.
Its been broadcast 2 different times on Sci-Fi that I have
noticed.
I like to think that Sci-Fi has noticed how its format worked
since they have rebroadcast the series.
If nothing else, I have hope for a Forever Knight something
that is organized as a miniseries - 6-13 episodes. That is enough to
play with good story ideas without having to commit the money for a full
series.
        It worked for Witchblade.
I think UltraViolet was well received.
I've got fingers and toes crossed that somewhere in the depths
of the networks, someone is going "a short vampire series is just the
ticket to boost summer ratings in 2003. What is an already established
idea that we can purchase the rights to in order to minimize our risk".
