I'm not Marg and am not even located in TO (darn it! <G>), but I've become a
fan of QAF and learned the following about the film set for the club,
Babylon:

<<Except for Ep 101, almost all of the shots of "Babylon" are done at a
Toronto gay club called "Fly." The dance floor of the real club is on the
first floor as is the entrance. The camera uses a wide lens to make the club
look bigger than it actually is...

Anyway, in the Fly, the "backroom" is downstairs. So are the restrooms and
another bar. The balcony goes around three walls but not the stage wall.
There is a brass "fireman's" pole on the stage. On QAF, when characters leave
the club, they go up the stairs. Actually, that would only take them to the
dead-end balcony in the real club. I don't blame viewers for being confused.
It seems as if there are two levels of basement or else the exit is on the
second floor (???). The EXT (exterior) shots of Babylon are shot elsewhere
except for the alley shots which ARE actually behind Fly.
There is a MUCH larger club which is both gay and straight on the waterfront
called "Guvernment." That is where the first Ep's "Babylon" scenes were shot
but it was too expensive to rent for the entire production schedule.>>

I don't recall off the top of my head the name of the club that doubled for
The Raven, but I know it wasn't this....

Hope that helps,
Janet

Subject: YKYBOWFKW... PART 2 (TAKE 2)

This is my second attempt (my server apparently didn't like the
first one) to send out the second part of my list of symptoms of
FK obsession, whic strangely enough contains the first ones that
I wrote down this past Fall, lost and finally refound. Thus,
without further ado:

You Know You've Become Obsessed With Forever Knight When:

1) You're watching the episode of "Wolf Lake" that starts with a
meeting of a 12 step program for recovering werewolves and think
"Hey, maybe *they* take vampires."

2)Your newest reason for becoming distracted in Shul (Synagogue
for those of you unfamiliar with Orthodox Judaism) is that you
suddenly realized that not only is the petite, redheaded
sixteen-year-old girl genius in the row in front of you named
named Natalie, she also comes from a family of Russian (well,
actually Georgian) doctors and thus she:
A) may be contemplating a career in medicine and
B)Has two grandmothers at home who might call her "Natasha".

3)You're reading about the knights of the Round Table and
suddenly realize that you're visualizing Sir Gereint as...you
guessed it Gereint Wyn Davies.

4)You see the headline "Blood Shortage Looms" and worry about
"what are the vampires going to drink now?"

5)You accidentally call your aunt Natalie's cat Sydney instead of
Reggie. (and then wonder how you could have made that mistake;
Sydney's much handsomer than Reggie)

More to come.

Recently read an article in Fortune about biotech companies coming up with
artificial blood and started wondering if the Brabant Foundation would be an
institutional investor.

The exterior shots of "Babylon" are of Church Street, just south of
Wellesley. This area is the predominant gay area of Toronto, and is lined
with gay clubs and gay hangouts (coffee shops, video stores, etc.). QAF
films in that area a lot.

And just to keep this whole discussion on topic <g>, this area is about a
half a block from the "apartment buildling from hell" that was used in FK,
the one where everyone seemed to get killed <g>. It's also only about a
block and a half from the Coroner's building, not to mention Maple Leaf
Gardens, where Nick played a concert as a rock star. And two or three blocks
north is the hotel used in "Queen of Harps", and also the alleyway used in
the second season ep where Nick and Schanke go into the sewers ("The Fire
Within"?).

A message from Lynne Ackerman in Toronto (or, as we like to call it,
"Hollywood North"). Via e-mail: lynnea212@a.......

I forgot to mention in my last post that you can find a lot more about
the show from Showcase's website on QaF:

http://www.showcase.ca/queerasfolk/about/

Looking at the credits, I see a few familiar names from FK there.

The interior is definitely not the same as the FK studio has apparently
reverted back to it's original function as a warehouse. I haven't been
watching QaF on a regular basis so I'm not sure about the exterior. I'll
take a look at the show the next week and let you know.

thanks for the info, Janet. Fly is located just off Yonge Street, in
Toronto's Gay district.

The night club that was the exterior site for the Raven is now called
the Fluid Lounge.
