You Know You're Still Way Too Into Forever Knight When...

You watch a Buffy rerun with Glory in it and don't pay too much attention to
the show because you're fixated on how much Glory looks like your image of
Dark Nat.

You're trying to tell that 'someone' how much you care for him, can't, and
spend five minutes laughing at yourself for turning into Nick. Ahh...
vampires as therapy. :)

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you! KC got her mail today and
found a bunch of notes and letters and checks (a few sent cash, as well).
Talk about surprised! She broke down in happy tears!
So far the total is $328.00~ only 472 dollars from her goal!!
You are all great! We love you!

Hi Shana,

I dropped a money order at the post office today - sent it priority
mail, so it should get there by Thursday. You can add another $50
to the total. I sure hope KC gets enough $$$ - it does sound like
she still has quite a way to go, but let's have faith that the fans will
come through.

McLisa will probably unsub me for this since this post is off topic. But I've
been on this list for a long time and the above post is very rude and
uncalled for. You should have checked your facts before posting.
The poster asking for money for a very good cause a fellow list member and
the poster *had* McLisa's permission to do so. No one forced you to read the
messages.

KC is a very long term member of the list who also wrote scores of excellent
fiction (if I remember all my authros right...)

Because many people on this list became like family through many things,
when KC started to DIE, many became very concerned. People just dont
PANHANDLE here. This old time frined is DYING and is in major finacial
straights, and did NOT on her own ask for money. Friends of hers on this
list did it for her, because she was/is family and in trouble,a nd on this
list, in THIS situation where someone so special is trying to SAVE THIER
LIFE and NOT DIE, it is being done for friendship> if you dont want toi
contribute. DONT

But let it go and let others who do, do so. Im not the moderator, but Im a
bit offended at this. ITs not like I came on and said, buy my kids Girl
Scout cookies. This is someones LIFE. And someones life who has been here
and a valued member for... gosh... a long long time....

I may sound impetulent, but back off man!

Being new here, you may not be aware of the LONG history FK fans have of
helping charities and each other. Several years ago, a convention/auction
called Bridging the Knight raised 10s of thousands of dollars for the
Canadian Diabetes Association, and also, from what I understand, saved a
juvenile AIDs facility in Toronto.

A fan was burned out of her home during Florida flashfires a couple of years
ago. We had an on-line "shower" helping her replace not only household items
and clothing, but hobby items such as needlework supplies and Forever Knight
episodes on tape.

Several of the actors' fan clubs raise money for different charities. Those
clubs that don't have the ability to raise money themselves, often donate
items to the on-line auctions and other fundraisers.

A fan was missing and presumed dead a few years ago. Due to the efforts for
the fans on this list, she was found in an emergency room and the proper care
given to her in hopes of getting her back on her feet after what she later
called a very stupid move on her part.

Forever Knight fandom may be small in numbers compared to some fandoms, but
we put our money to very good use - helping each others and even those
outside our fandom.

Not everyone here can afford to give, and some may not want to for private,
various reasons. That's fine. But I think *most* of us have a charity-filled
heart and would wish a fan who is trying to get LIFE SAVING cancer treatment
well.

We are a family here. I've met many of the folks on this list, and can tell
you that sense of family extends beyond the Net, even though we don't all
necessarily get along<g> When my ex husband left me a few years ago (a very
good and happy thing, considering my personal circumstances, but still
upsetting), it was a fan I met here who INSISTED on calling me on the phone
and talking with me until a local friend (and FK fan) could get to my house
and check on me.

Call it panhandling if you must, but be aware that someday you may need help,
either emotionally or financially. No matter what your religious beliefs,
shouldn't we all seek to "repay mankind for our sins" by helping each other?

Maybe i didn't make the first e-mail clear----its the ongoing e-mails about
it that i was referring to. I have seen e-mails about staying on topic from
the moderator and since i don't know her address i e-mailed the list b/c its
gone far from 1 post asking for help. Think me the bad person for requesting
the many off-topic e-mails come to a minimum---whatever. But if you feel the
need to flame me---privately e-mail me so you're not still bothering others.
Look at the below message i just got:

You're not the only one. This isn't the only time the recipient's
relative has asked for money. I've just started deleting the messages as
soon as I see them. Fortunately, this is the only person I've seen
asking for money on list in the three years I've been subbed.

Well she can unsub me too then.... because I feel the same way. This isnt a
case of panhandling and the messages can easily be skipped. I dont
peronsally know KC but am glad there are so many people who can help....

Posting private emails without the sender's permission is considered bad
netiquette. If the original sender had wanted her opinions posted in a

From now on, anyone that wants updates on KC can e-mail me offlist for
them. I in NO WAY asked anyone for help~ it was the gracious offer of
another listmember.
And I can tell you without a doubt that she definitely has cancer. I am
her twin sister, and I have had to watch her condition deteriorate at an
alarming rate over the last few weeks. If this treatment does not work,
she will be gone within the year.
Sorry if this whole situation has offended anyone, but my sister is DYING
and there's not a damned thing I can do about it.
Again, I thank all of you that are showing your love and support, either
through finances~ which is REALLY appreciated, but not necessary~ or
through e-mails or letters of support to KC.
I will stay off the main list (except to lurk). If you have a question,
please e-mail me at this address, or at my private e-mail address below.

All right...McLisa, forgive me, but I'm going to say
something here. The above is one of the crudest, most
trollish statements I've ever seen, and I moderate one
of the biggest message boards for one of the biggest
fandoms on the net and I have seen some ugly posts. I
must say it surprises me because this list has always
been remarkably civil. So perhaps I'm troll-baiting
here, but ... I suggest you show a little class.
That last comment in particular was one of the most
callous, rude remarks I've ever seen. I sincerely
hope no one in your family is ever ill and you recieve
that sort of response. If you don't want to read a
post, just delete it. Don't make childish,
unsubstantiated posts. Yes, I said childish. Not to
mention hurtful--I have never met KC in person, but
I've come to know her from this list and her wonderful
fiction and I, like many on this list, am worried
about her and want to hear how she's doing--and that
includes whether or not she's gotten enough money to
get into the research program that just might keep her
from dying! You've obviously never been seriously
ill or in need of financial help to show that much
lack of compassion. If you don't want to or cannot
help, fine, that's your perrogative. But making
remarks like that last one is totally uncalled for.

McLisa, again, sorry for the rant. But that's one of
the nastiest things I've ever seen on this list, and
it's usually quite a polite list.

What do you mean you "could say something really bad". Haven't you done enough

I don't think you have shown any restraint. You definitely don't have any
compassion.

If you could read back posts you would find I don't post a lot, but this really
irritates me.

And there was only 1 , do you read, 1 ! request for money, which came from me.
Everyone else just responded. If you don't like the posts you saw on the list I
ought to add the ones I got privately. I guess you would "say something really
bad" then??

I would send you this off list, but you would probably post it anyway.

As McLisa posts every week, no flames are allowed on this list. Since McLisa
(or Don) hasn't apparently seen the list yet this morning, just a reminder of
Rule number one. I'm not the list owner, she is, but I don't think she'll
mind me reposting part of the rules. New members, especially, please take
note:

"> 1. No flames on list. FLAMERS MAY BE SET NOPOST. THE NOPOST MAY BE
PERMANENT.">>

For those who don't know, flames include verbally attacking posts by other
people - and that includes those posted with McLisa's permission.

As for off topic posts:

7. Off-topic posts are _NOT_ allowed, no matter what
> they are about or how urgent the warning may appear. If you have an
> off-topic post which you think should appear on the list, ask one of
> the owners for permission.

When a Forever Knight fan is in trouble, that has always been considered
on-topic as far as I know, especially when they have permission from McLisa
or Don to post.

Again, I'm not the listowner and I'm sure McLisa or Don will be stepping in
as soon as they see the hoopla. So let's play nice until then so McLisa

For those of you who need to cool down a little, think nice thoughts of

Geez, Louise, Libs. Some of us haven't had breakfast yet (and
now might not eat lunch).

Did I mention he was surrounded by fiesty wenches feeding him squeakers like
they were grapes? And he's slurping rather loudly to show his appreciation?

Tag line for your infomercial "A Rat A Day, Keeps The Appetite
Away!"

"Now you too can be slim and have a house free of rodent
infestation with the patented Screed plan! Just $19.99 (or the
equivelent in hamsters) in 3 easy payments! Order Today!!!!"

Subject: Admin: No Flames!

Ok, guys, I just saw part of the list traffic since yesterday. (I also
discovered that I'm not getting all the posts, but that's another story.)

Thank you, all of you who have acted to diffuse the situation and remind us
about the no flames rule. Thank you, those of you who have refrained from
posting flames.

To anyone who was attacked and whose feelings are hurt, I apologize. If I or
Don had known this was going on, it would have been stopped much earlier.

Altogether in chorus: NO FLAMES ARE ALLOWED ON FORKNI-L!

Good. We'll get back to our regular temperature now.

Subject: Admin: Shana, please do update us

I'm answering this onlist because I think it needs administrative attention.

KC's sister Shana wrote:
>From now on, anyone that wants updates on KC can e-mail me offlist for them.

Shana, I will understand completely if you don't feel that you can go on writing
to the list. However, I hope you will continue updating us on KC's condition
and anything related to it. We are a family on Forkni-l. As such we have always
included member's health problems and progress in our talk. You have been
perfectly on topic.

Guys, anyone who objects to a topic needs to talk to me or Don _offlist._ Asking
for a change or removal of a topic is our job. We have to consider the list as a
whole.

This is completely true. For anyone who didn't notice, the help offer was posted
with my approval and permission.

I admit I'm not infallible -- ok, those of you who are pretending to faint can
get up now -- but I do try to do the right thing. Concerns about anything onlist
should be taken up with me or Don, offlist. Yes, I just said that above. It
bears repeating.

>Sorry if this whole situation has offended anyone, but my sister is

There's nothing I can do but extend my sympathy, which I do.

On behalf of the list, you're welcome.

Again, of course it's your decision, but please, please don't feel that you have
to stay off the list if you don't want to.

Oh my, I'd say that's one mighty fine diet plan. I was just sitting here
about to grab a bagel or something, and the mental image stopped ME dead in
my tracks. <G> And I'm sure Screed would go along wit' it. ;-)
