Most people seem to have chosen flying...I've always
wondered -- do vampires send on their luggage ahead?
The image of them flying with a suitcase tucked under
one arm is very uncool. <g>

If I choose immortality -- does it enable me to to make
others immortal, too, if they were willing? I have a very
sick relative -- that's an ability I'd prize.

Subject: one power

I'm not sure I want to fly or whammy or live forever, but it would be nice
to be able to pick the age you liked best and just stay there. Choose, say,
28 or 32 or whatever the age was that you felt really on top of your form,
and then stay there for the next 60 years - and then die painlessly in your
sleep. The Greeks thought that what distinguished men from the gods was
that the gods were both immortal AND ageless. I'm willing to be mortal,
after a decent interval I hope, but I wouldn't mind being ageless!

Flying! The vamps make it look so fun. Plus, it would be a much
cheaper (and easier) method of transportation then cars. At least,
until the temperatures drop below the freezing point for the winter.

Oy. This seemingly simple question has proven to be harder to answer than I
first thought.

Flight first came to mind. But then I remembered that I get air sick in the
car just going down hills. If I had flight I would also have to have that
health factor or I'd be having to take a supply of B. bags in one hand and
air sickness pills in the other. But since I only get one choice? Hmmm.
Whammy? Oh, I can just see this. If my computer programming skills in
college were any indication, I'd screw that up royal by offhandedly saying
something figuratively and having it taken literally. "That a way, boy!
Break a leg!"
Nonononono.
Better senses? Oh, the joys of hearing that concert with superior hearing!
And that man snifling as loud as a bassoon back 10 rows. And that annoying
ant that keeps dropping his load *BANG* every 110th step. And...
Okay--forget the senses.
Eternal youth! Eternally...short, 4-eyes, over optimum weight...ergh.
Skips to next option.
Quick healing. Is there anything bad there? But then this body might just
live forever and being short, myopic, ect.... And would this effect the
country's health care profession if I no longer paid the doctor? I don't
want to be blamed for a recession!

Subject: YKYB...?

This isn't really a YKYBW... moment, but it sure gave me flashbacks and
made me nostalgic for FK... Well, maybe that does qualify it then.

I've been watching Farscape on Sci-Fi, quite a cool show, and they have a
'vampire' character occasionally. He sucks the life force from any
being. Now, that may be enough to make us nostalgic for FK, but if you
haven't seen this show, this is what he looks like: Pale skin (of course),
pale, pale hair, deep voice and yellow eyes. He's very powerful, and very
creepy actually.
Ring any bells? Yes, I was having LaCroix flashbacks throughout the
ep! He was terribly evil but very well-played. quite a scary character,
for an occasionally appearing one.
Ok, so he wore a black cape with a big collar thingy. I think that was for
suggestion's sake, since he's a sort of metaphysical vampire. It was kinda
funny. But that was my FK moment of the week!

I can't decide what I would want as an FK power. Flying, mortality,
healing, the whammy, gee, how to pick? How about never forgetting
anything!! I've become so forgetful in the last few years, I would really
appreciate that.

still here!

I would choose flying because then I wouldn't have to depend on the bus

whammying because then we could sell a lot of Maintenance

I had to really think awhile about choosing between speed and strength. And
as nice as it would be to have the strength to open stuck bottle tops and
move heavy objects easily (think bout the joys of being able to pick any
parking space and just move the car occupying it out of the way <g>), I
think I have to pick their speed. I'd love to be able to get anywhere
quickly,even without flying.

In a heartbeat (nice pun, huh?), I would say flying. It's the one thing that
I've always wished human beings were capable of (and I don't mean with the
assistance of aircraft). I used to dream of being able to years ago, but for
some strange reason, ever since I began driving, I've never dreamt of it again.
Hmmmm....maybe the dreams meant something (freedom?). Who knows? All I know
is that would be the one vampiric power I'd choose.

I feel very silly-- I typed in the wrong quickname the first time and sent
this to the fic list. :[

"If you could have one power that the FK vampires have, what would you
choose? and why?"

Ohhhhhh..... that's a hard one. After much thought and reading the other
answers, I'll have to stick with my first instinct: flying. The thought of
having eternity is tempting, as I love to learn, and the thing I learn most
is how much I still have to learn. But as anyone who follows immortals
knows, there is no such thing as true immortality-- death gets _everyone_ in
the end. And my religion says that, after this life, we _will_ spend the
rest of eternity learning and growing, so I guess I can wait 'til then.
Flying has always been a dream of mine, and the sheer freedom would be
exhilarating.

Rose's response is that she wants to be able to ingest blood. She says it
would cut down on food bills, time spent preparing food, and it would be
real handy when finals comes around and there is no time to consume solid
food. (She adds that this does not mean giving up real food-- just being
able to ingest blood as well.)

Hi all,

I think I'd want the hightened senses. To be able to
see well (I am VERY nearsighted!) would be lovely!
And to enjoy taste and smell more.....think of the
possibilities! Flying would be fun, and I have always
wanted to try it, so that would second.

Imortality would get boring after awhile, and I'm not
sure how well I could deal with losing friends and
family.....

Whammying would be fun too! As well as knowing what
others are thinking.....

It is a great question!!

I'm very tempted by the idea of immortality, but I would only
choose it if I was able to give it to others too. A life without
my son around isn't alluring for me at all. But I would definitely
enjoy the advantage of sharing a bond with the members of
my family. I would never again need to worry about my sons
whereabouts if he doesn't come home in time,
and I would be able to make my mother
understand the motives of my actions whitout words. It
would make life a lot easier.

One of the local theaters presented this musical last spring. Although I didn't
make the cast, I did go see it and nearly fell out of my chair when that line
was said.

That, and I could just picture Nick and LaCroix singing "Agony" from the play...
Neither Prince looked much like LaCroix or Nick, but each at the ... well,
spirit and FEELING of one of the FK characters (not to mention both are very
handsome men).

I feel exactly the same way. In fact, in a story I've been
working on, in which Natalie is revealed to be a witch (and
that's all I'm telling right now. Wouldn't do to *totally* spoil
it.), I've been thinking of having her racing with Nick to see if
the broomstick can go faster than a vampire. (It seemed like good
comic relief.)
