Subject: Nigel on All Souls/Lisa Ryder on cover of Parsec magazine

This is for Canadian list members, or those who can get Canadian channels by
satellite.

Nigel Bennett's episode of All Souls, "One Step Closer to Roger", is supposed
to be shown next Friday evening on CITY-TV or one of its associated stations.
In Toronto it's being shown on CKVR, but will be seen on CITY in some of the
nearby cities. It should be broadcast from 9 to 10 p.m., but check your
local listings.

Also, there's a cover story (with a great picture!) on Lisa Ryder in the
current Parsec magazine. (There are also stories on other Andromeda cast
members.) I haven't had a chance to check the magazine out yet, but I would
imagine it will mention Lisa's work on Forever Knight. The magazine may be
available online, I'm not sure.

A message from Lynne Ackerman in Toronto (or, as we like to call it,
"Hollywood North"). Via e-mail: lynnea212@a.......

Posted with the kind permission of our List Gardener.

Hi all!

I’m back with you on my own computer again. The past week was one of the
most stressful weeks I had in a long time. My computer’s Operating System
crashed just before I was off to vacation and I had to go to hell and back
to save my data. Finally with the help of a kind friend, and through
double booting and using my sister’s computer as back up drive, I was able
to save most of my files before reformatting my computer. This experience,
although very frustrating, taught me some lessons that I think is useful
for all of us. Many FK fans have their works stored on their machines and
some of it is irreplaceable, so it is a good idea to know a few things
about saving your precious data if Microsoft ever happens to fail you.
Here are a few of these tips:

--MAKE BACKUPS. I can’t stress this enough. No matter what sort of data
you have, or how old it is, or how long it was since you’ve
purchased/formatted your machine, you’ll lose it if your operating system
breaks down. Make copies of your stuff on floppies, CD ROMs or on another
machine. Believe me, you’ll be grateful you’ve done so later on.

--Create an ‘Emergency Repair Disk (ERD)’ for your computer. Go to
Start->Programs->Accessories->System tools and click on Backup (could be
different for different versions of Windows, use Windows Explorer help for
details). On the Tools menu, click Create an Emergency Repair Disk. Follow
the instructions that appear on your screen. If Windows ever becomes
corrupt, you can use this floppy, and a Windows CD ROM, to repair the
damage without having to format your drives and losing your files.

--Although it is tempting, don’t save your most important files in the “My
Documents” folder. It’s the first thing that goes away in the case of a
system breakdown, because it’s the folder that is mostly tied up to
Windows. A better choice is to create another folder (preferably on a
different drive) and put a shortcut to it on your desktop to store your
data. This way, if you ever have to reinstall your operating system, your
data will be safe in that folder.

Hope you found it useful and worthy of your time. Sometimes, a little
precaution saves a lot of time, effort and sweet memories.

Sunny

Sunny, did anyone try installing Windows on top of the old install? Most of
the time ( I mean probably over 98% of the time) you can do that and you don't
lose anything--even the drivers for the sound and video cards, modems, scanners,
etc are still there. Windows goes through and pretty much just puts back what
went wrong.

Just checking to see if my posts are getting through. I've sent 4 chapters
(in 2 parts each day) of a story called Arabian Knight to the fiction list.

I know that the moderator had to forward the first two chapters. Just wanted
to make sure that the others are making it through on their own. So if anyone
who's interested and is not receiving any new chapters, please let me know.

Thanks
Fran

After having been through 2 hard drive crashes in one year and having
to start from scratch each time, I now save my important documents
and computer programs that I write onto a CD. I also have backups of
most files on my web sites on a CD or 2.

I recently bought a utility program called "Go Back." Utilities like
that make a compressed copy of all the files on your computer,
similar to how databases are backed up, which you can restore if you
have problems. There are other such utility programs too. And I use
Norton Antivirus, which is one of the best Virus protection programs
around. The other really good virus protection program is McCafe.
Yes, software costs money, but peace of mind and protection of your
data is worth it.

I think one of the best investments I ever made was a cd burner. I back up all
my files from my 8 web sites onto cd's. The data for the web sites alone come
to over a gig. It's great. I also have backed up several friends web sites and
burned cd's for them as a back up and since the cost of burners and the cds are
coming down so much it really is a great investment.

Yes, they are coming through. I recommend Fran's story to everyone who
subscribes to fkfic. The Nick and Natpack has already seen the whole
thing....

Thanks, Mary and Maria,

I've received some e-mail from a couple of people who were responding to
parts 1 and 2, letting me know that they were anxious to receive the next
installment. I took that to mean that perhaps they hadn't received the other
chapters. I know that the first couple of times I posted, the system wouldn't
let them go through without going to the moderator first. Since that problem
has been fixed, I thought I'd doublecheck.

Thanks for responding. Maria, Chapter 5 is on its way.

FORKNI-L RULES

1. No flames on list. FLAMERS MAY BE SET NOPOST. THE NOPOST
MAY BE PERMANENT.

2. Please don't quote more than four lines of a previous post in replying.
If you have more than one point to answer, then you may quote the
relevant four lines for that point also.

3. Limit sigs to 6 lines. This includes all information, decoration
quotations and blank lines. Your name and address count as part of
the six. If you sign your name on a separate line above the body of text,
your name and the blank line or lines between count as part of the six
line limit. If you have one of those services that insists on putting an
advertising tag on the end of posts, don't worry. We realize you can't
control that and it doesn't count as part of your sig.

4. Please don't send to the whole list when you are only talking to the
person who wrote the post you are answering.

5. Advertising on list is on a case by case basis. Please consult the
listowners, Lisa McDavid, <mclisa@m.......> or Don Fasig,
<Argent@e.......> for permission.

6. This list is for the discussion of Forever Knight. Cast, crew, staff
and producers in connection with what they're doing now or have done in the
past are ok. So are list members' FK- fannish activities and
arrangements to meet. Cons should only be announced on Forkni-l if someone
from the show is appearing, or if you're going to be there. Non-FK vampires,
or vampires in general, are _NOT_ ok. Vampyres@t....... does that.
McLisa can tell you how to subscribe.

7. Off-topic posts are _NOT_ allowed, no matter what they are about or how
urgent the warning may appear. If you have an off-topic post which you
think should appear on the list, ask one of the owners for permission.

8. The private lives of the cast are not a discussion topic. Occasionally
one of the fan club presidents will make an announcement, but other
than that, we leave the cast their privacy.

9. Only fan club presidents or other designated spokespeople may
make announcements of future projects for FK cast, crew and staff,
before said projects have been released or written about in the media.

10. No role-playing on Forkni-l. This includes no character names as
pseudonyms or posing as a character.

11. Each subscriber is limited to five posts per day on Forkni-l.

Subject: Looking for FK Character Listing

Hi Everyone:

I am working on an overall character list for my
"Dubois" series. I was wondering if anyone knew
of a comprehensive listing of the FK characters
(main, guest stars, etc.)? I have such a link
for Xena and would like to point folks to the
best place to increase their interest in FK.

Thanks!

Sincerely,
