For anyone who's interested, the Cousinly leadership can be contacted
collectively at fkcerberus@y........ I've also set up a list called
fkcousinswar at Yahoogroups for Cousinly war chatter and plotting. If you
have a Yahoo ID, you can subscribe yourself -- but it would also be a good
idea to send a message to fkcerberus that you've done so, so I have some
idea who's joining. The membership of this list will eventually be checked
against permission slips, when we get to that point.

On a non-admin note, does the GSS still exist out
there? Bob? Anybody? Or do we get to play with any of the toys that the
GSS has left behind at CERK? Hmmm ... <Hey guys, what does this button
do? Oops ...>

FORWARDING another reply from PN Elrod who is in good form tonight. LOL! <weg>

<<Yes, it's partially the anachronism of referring to that area of France as
Normandy in the 6th century, but also the slight problem of using that area
of France at all. The character is Richard D'Orleans, his father the Duc
D'Orleans, which I presume means they live in Orleans, >>

Blame Bill Fawcett the packager for that. Nigel and I had NOTHING to do with
any of it and we have dozens of witnesses to prove it. Besides, if Normandy
didn't exist under that name at that time, who's to say Orleanais did or did
not either? Or maybe Normady was LOTS bigger then that it later was when it
became Normandy that that included Orleans. Someone probably had a war over
it since they'd not invented soccer yet, either.

Oh, screw it. Let's just all call the damn country Remulak and forget the
whole bleeping thing. (NEE!) ;-D

I have a somewhat desperate request. Last year at LCA my friend Jill and I bid
on and won a set visit as guests of director Jon Cassar. Jon was a lot of fun
and he actually put Jill and I in the movie, but we don't know when the movie
will be shown in the states. Would someone who has a June tv guide or satellite
guide be kind enough to see if the movie will be playing this month? It could
be under any of the following titles: "Rough Air"; "Rough Sky"; "Rough Air:
Danger on Flight 534" If you find it or know that it's not playing in June,
please e-mail me that info offlist. I would appreciate it so much!!

Thanks!

this may seem like a rather odd question, but can someone please explain the
fk war, and just what the factions are? i know the cousins are LaCroix's,
the knighties are Nick's, and the FOD's are Schanke's, but that's pretty
much the extent of my fk war knowledge.

please forgive the list newbie of 3 weeks!

Would the person who answers this question please post it to the whole
list. I know there are a few people who don't know this and are probably
too shy to ask. I myself know what the factions are but I don't know how a
war works and what permission slips (if that's even correct) are and what
you should do after joining your faction. I read Susan Garrett's tutorial
for War 9, but that's a little too inclusive and addresses faction leaders
and war mistress/master as well as regular players, where as I only would
like to know what a simple player should do. I'm sure there are some more
newbies on the list who haven't been in a war yet and might have the same
questions.

Thanks
Sunny

Subject: WAR: What a war is

A FK fan war is sort of a round robin on-line roleplaying game where fans play
THEMSELVES. The FK characters are there, but the focus is more on how the fans
interact with each others. Pranks are pulled. Parties are held. Ratpackers crawl
out of their tunnels that connect just about every place in Toronto (and anyone
but Ratpackers who crawl into the tunnels are likely to spend the rest of the
War trying to get out).

The Warmaster will issue a certain plot that will add to the fun. Once it was
that we all got to create alternative versions of the characters. Once it
focused on the fans trying to save FK. Once it was all the vampires got "cured"
of vampirism. That will not be announced until shortly before the war begins.

There are no winners. No one dies, no one ever dies. We play with real life
powers (albeit bent a little - I once ran my laptop computer in Screed's home
using rat powered generators). You can hire Mercs or Ratpackers to pull the
practical jokes (which are virtual jokes - once the Ratpack replaced Vachon's
webpage for real, another time pink rats were set loose in CERK, and once
someone got glued into a cow suit).

The permission slips are because by the rules of the list, permission must be
granted before real people can be used in stories. These are basically stories
(well ARE stories), so McLisa must have permission for us to be used and abused,
even if we are writing ourselves.

The fun is interacting with other fans to set up elaborate or simple stories and
adventures as the War moves along.

Factions control the characters and permission must be received from the
controling faction before a character, say Nick or LaCroix, can be used by
someone else. That way the characters are not in two places at once - at least
not on purpose.

Some of the factions are:
Mercs (You hire them)
Ratpack (sort of part of the Mercs, we control Screed)
COusins (LaCroix)
Knighties (Nick)
Ravens (Janette)
Vaqueras (Vachon)
Perks (Tracy)
FoDs (Friends of Don's - Schanke)
Natpackers (Natalie)

and so forth. Not every faction plays every time.

I hope that helps! THere'll be other rules and specifics, but they will be set
up and announced as the War approaches. The War will last approximately two
weeks with stories being posted to FKFIC-L to a special War setting. You will
get a *****LOT***** of stories dropping, but only if you are set to receive the
War header on FKFIC.

If you want to play but are nervous, check with the faction of your choice
(announce you are looking for them here). Chances are, there'll be someone
who'll write you into their stories. Who knows, after that first flood of
stories drop, you may decide to jump in on your own (depending, of course, on
the faction's rules - remember, the faction leaders will set the rules as to use
of the characters, whether everyone can post their own stories or if you will
collaborate within the faction, etc.)

Gamers need to remember it is NOT exactly a role playing game so should NOT be
taken too seriously. That sometimes happens, and shouldn't. Think of it as an
on-line party set in a virtual Toronto with Ratpackers easedropping from your
walls ;-D

Subject: FK Tapes

I'm posting this on behalf of someone on the SciFi bboard who is desperate
to have FK tapes and is willing to pay any price. I know what she is doing
is illegal because of the copyright issue and because I'm one of the few
people who has connections to both lists I'd like to ask for the addy of
the tape fairy here (I remember someone talking about her before) so I can
give it to her. She’s not really my friend but she is a fan in need and I
feel obligated to help her.

Thank you in advance

Subject: Admin: Mommy, what's a war? :)

Ok, here's my best stab at explaining the Fkfic-l Wars. The pun
was unintentional, but I think I'll keep it. :)

A war is a big, round-robin role-playing game which we
occasionally play on Fkfic-l. Note: this is not an rpg as
rpg-ers would use the term. The object is to have fun. There
are no winners or losers, no points or dice roles or characters
other than versions of ourselves and the characters from Forever
Knight.

If you think of it as a virtual house party which is supposed to
get out of hand, you're close.

Wars take place in the Forever Knight universe. Somehow the show
characters get at odds with each other and/or get into trouble.
Exactly what and why changes each time. The factions go to
Toronto to help out their patron character.

Various attacks are made, faction to faction, person to person,
and so on. Sometimes the object of the attack is a character.
Please note, again -- these attacks are meant to be fun and
humorous. Attacks can be a sign of affection. Those of us who
are cat people probably understand this better than non-cat
types. :)

Nobody ever attacks me, McLisa (sniff, sob!) these days, and I
miss being attacked! <Hint off>

The War Mistress/Master is responsible for moving the plot along
and refereeing. Don and I as listowners are only concerned with
matters which involve the regular Fkfic-l list rules. We do
reserve the right to stop the war if things turn nasty. (This
has been threatened a couple of times in the past but has never
actually been necessary.)

Eventually the war comes to some sort of conclusion and we all
go home again. As Susan Garrett says, the pieces all have to go
back into their boxes.

In war time, we are somewhat exaggerated versions of ourselves.
Nobody has superpowers or is a vampire, unless of course you are
one in real life and can prove it. :) You can present yourself
with a really good laptop, or exaggerate your hacking skills.
You just can't, for instance, be a black belt martial arts
champion unless you are one if real life.

You don't have to play to read the war, and if you don't want to
write, it's perfectly ok to let someone else write you in their
posts.

About the permission slips:
It's the same reason we don't allow real people to be portrayed
in Fkfic-l fanfic, unless the writer has written permission.
Years ago, someone wrote a story on Fkfic-l that portrayed Tori
and Aaron Spelling as characters and treated them badly into the
bargain. Mr. Spelling's lawyers threatened to sue. So from now
on, any real person who appears as a character in anything on
Fkfic-l must give his or her written permission.

Hoping this helps,

McLisa
mclisa@m.......

They're simply a statement by email that you agree play in the
war and to be written about. The reason we do this is to prevent
any legal repercussions. Some years ago, a
