I've seen it used in VTM, as well, by older vampires.
Generally the same people who'd call themselves
Canintes rather than kine or kindred. But (while I'll
admit I've only seen 10 eps) I honestly can't say I
ever heard an FK vamp use that or a similar
term...probably my biggest fan fic pet peeve is when
people write stuff that does not fit in with what's
already canon without any explanation whatsoever, and
that includes vocabulary terms.

For FK, protege would be good, especially in LC's
wishful thinking! (And after seeing those ten eps,
I'd just like to say, "Nick, give in to the dark side!
 LaCroix has more fun!")

Vector Prime? <smacks SW fan self back to other yahoo
address.)

This is where a writer has to be truly spectacular (in
any fandom except X-Files) to convince me. I write
fan fiction so that it could be slipped into the canon
universe and cause serious problems. It takes a lot
of work on the author's part to make me buy an AU.

Techincal stuff...my only plea (in terms of computer
problems) is please learn how to put in page and
paragraph breaks, that's all I ask. In writing-tech,
grammer and spelling. I'll forgive little stuff,
but....::thinks of fanfiction.net and shudders.::

I don't post much on the main list and never have, but I'm always out here
reading and I just wanted to give many, many congratulations out there to all
our wonderful writers in the FK Fic Awards who keep FK alive and well. I am
humbled and very appreciative of everyone's support on all these lists because
you really support all the writers and make us feel special. Thank you for
being there for me and all the writers out there this year. Your support is
what keeps us writing.

As far as likes and dislikes...we all have them. That is why there are so many
different slants on FK in the first place. It's why we joined these lists,
isn't it? Writing is therapy for me and my everyday stressful life. When
someone else enjoys my therapy along with me then I am thrilled and feel I've
found another friend. Since I travel for a living, it's so nice to email
someone and say "I'm going to be close..want to have a drink and chat?" So
I'm very grateful for all our differences and all our views, it's what makes us
special. So everyone keep writing the characters the way you like them. It
makes reading more interesting. Viva La Difference!

The older boy was the 'erastos' and the younger was the 'erenemenos'--both
derived from the root-word 'eros.' The younger weren't usually
*pre*-pubescent, but more often pubescent.

In flashbacks to the time when Nick was first brought across, LaCroix does
call him 'mon protege.' In the present he refers to him as 'my son.' In
fanfic, I either use the father-son/daughter terminology, or the
master-fledgling terminology. When I want to emphasize our vamps
non-humanness, I use more 'animal' terms (i.e., sire, get, rookery, etc.).

Hi Rose,

The quote you are looking for is from the episode, "If Looks Could
Kill." Nick has just brought Bernice, who works at the health club, to the
Raven and is watching her wildly dance when Janette approaches him.

Nick- She has a strange way of coping with tragedy.

Janette- We could outlast her any century.

Nick- Are you so sure of that?

Janette- Hmmmmmmm, feeling our age, are we?

Nick- Well, sometimes it's difficult not to.

Janette- Relax, your mid-life crisis is at least a millennium away.

Nick- You know someone should really bottle this. Youthful vitality.

Janette- It's not vitality, it's desperation. Look at them, they all dance
as if father time is shooting bullets at their feet, which I suppose he is.

Nick- Are you sure you're not a little envious? Sure, you still have
your youth, but they have enthusiasm.

Janette- Their enthusiasm will fade soon enough, Nichola. As they watch
each generation cut into their dance, turn their possessions into artifacts,
and store their pictures in dusty attics.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Janette leaves Nick to watch Bernice dance after this.

Boy, I'm so depressed now- I'm getting old! : ( But I loved watching that
scene between Nick and Janette again.

Hi all! My sis, Megan, wants a quote, but she can't acess a computer
lately. She wants "They dance as if Father time were shooting bullets at
their feet." But she wants *everything* Jannet says around that line.
