According to babelfish, "Night crawler" (2 words) is "cingolo di notte" in
Italian. I can't get it to translate it as a single word - or earthworm
either, for some reason.

Hi Kyer,

Thanks! :) Glad you enjoy them. Your FK page is very cute by the way, and I
enjoy your funny fics. Feel free to use pics off my site, if you need them
for future stuff on yours.

I sent out a teaser part to Fanfic.net for a Digimon/FK xover and it got
reviewed! The Digimon fan states he/she hasn't seen Forever Knight, but
that this makes them want to see it! (And if *that* isn't a good reason for
writing xovers.. <eg>)

Anyway... What is the best site to direct a newbie too? Kristin has great
pics--but they are only pics. Mel's site is kinda overwhelming.
Who has a site with a handful of pics, and a little episode/story info that
would be appropriate? I don't want to scare the fish away with too big of a
bait, but I want to draw them in! <lol!>

Suggestions, anyone?

Cackled with glee..

Well, it's been quite a while since I used Italian, so I used my dictionary,
which makes all of this painfully literal. They had a translation
specifically for "said of worms" which I think would be appropriate.
Brulicare. The ending for "-er" is '-tore' so, I would think it would be ...

Brulicatore di Notte!

Ok,I don't know how accurate that is. AFterall, the word for worm is "verme."
So what might that be, "verme di notte," just for the emphasis on night? So
take whatever you like from that!

Just pics? Tsk, tsk, Kyer, there's much more than pics on my site. <g>
There's of course 1,000's of images by episode (so yes that'd help them
become a bit familiar in a way), dozen's of movies by episode, music videos,
wallpaper, other computer goodies, info, a Save the Knight section (which is
quite important to support FK), links to other good places, and more (such
as my faction pages for IB's and DK's)!

Any ways, feel free to send them my URL... :)

I posted the fic anyway, since I didn't think LaCroix would call himself a type
of pasta. It just doesn't quite have the right intimidation factor.

I am pleased to announce the results of the 2000 Forever Knight Fan Fiction

balloting. This isn't as many as I had hoped, but I'm grateful to everyone who
took the time to read the nominated stories and vote for their favorites.

scrutiny. If anyone has any questions about the process of collecting and
tallying the votes, please contact me at nancykam@m........

I really tried to vote. I enjoyed all the stories and couldn't narrow it down
to just one favorite in each category. I even reread some of the stories
hoping to narrow it down to just one, but couldn't. Sorry.

The closest idiomatic translations I can come up with are something like

inseguitore della notte (lit. the pursuer of the night but it can
also be translated as stalker)
or
strisca per la notte (he crawls through the night)

If the ammount of English my Italian prof inserts is any indication,
you can probably get away with just using Nightcralwer.

I also wanted to congratulate all the winners! And who ever said it was
hard to narrow it down to one vote, you are so so right. Took me forever
too and I ended up not voting in some categories.

Thanks to yon too Nancy for all the effort you put in to run the awards.
We really appreciate it.

Subject: In need of a quick 'Fix'...

After struggling with this little problem for quite some time, a friend of
mine convinced me to post to the list in the hopes that some kind soul could
help me out.

For whatever reason, my VCR does not want to tape "The Fix"--either that, or
whatever deities guide my existence do not think I should see it. I never
have, you see, and since I invariably have work/school on the day it airs,
I'm forced to the expedient of taping. Disasters both natural and unnatural
inevitably plague this event. Blackouts. Fried wiring. Defective video
tapes. Reprogramming of the VCR by an errant family member... You get the
idea.

So I'm extending an impassioned plea to everyone who can help me--I would
really, really, really like to see this episode. I have read the transcript,
I have seen online pics and vidcaps, but it truly is not the same. I can
reimburse you for a tape or send you one, and you will also have my eternal
gratitude. Anyone who's got the resources and a kind heart, contact me
off-list, please.

Thanks!

Guess that's the point! Btw, what exactly does it mean in english???
Obviously it has some meaning that just doesn't come across in translations.

My german dictionary comes up with some interesting translations for crawler,
such as a garment for toddlers, a waiting cab, a 'snail', a worm, a swimmer,
... Not exactly initimidating either <eg>
Never realized it means worm too, since one of the meanings given for "to
crawl" is "krabbeln", and with that sounding so similar, I always got an image
of lovely little critters with six feet or more, like beetles! Sometimes humans
"krabbeln" too, toddlers mainly, but I have a little trouble imagining Lacroix
crawling around on all fours!!! (Or should I say, him calling himself so) Hm...
the longer I try... well... :P
So, it's worms, aha! Not really better though, LOL!!! Nachtkrabbler,
Nachtkriechtier, Nachtwurm, my oh my...

Now I dimly remember the name they used in the german dubbing (surprising that
they translated it at all!) It's "Nachtfalter".
A more poetic sounding name for Motte, a *moth*! Butterfly of the night or such.
Now the flying makes some sense at least!
Must admit I kinda enjoy this thread - worm, beetle, spagetti, moth - ROTFL!!!

Uh... some native enlighten us on what Lacroix had in mind...? <g>

They translated it because they translate EVERYTHING here...
keeps the population dumb when you ask me... :-(

I thought the term Mary Jane, Lt. or otherwise, was the
nickname for marijuana. <g>

Cloudrider asked of "Nightcrawler":
> Btw, what exactly does it mean in english???

Here in my part of the States, it refers to those big, fat earthworms
that tend to come out after nightfall.
They're very popular with gardeners -- and with fishermen,
who tend to collect them for bait.
So I'm guessing LaCroix didn't choose the pseudonym for
its actual usage.... ;-)

Catching up on several days worth of email and, typically me, starting at
the wrong end. <g>

I venture to guess that, rather than the worm (great for catching catfish,
and fun to dig up in the early morning, too!), LaCroix wanted something that
connoted one that slips through the night unseen, or stealthily. Something
interesting: dragons were often referred to as 'worms'.
