I know that's the fanfic assumption, but I've been thinking about that
lately. I don't think it's got any canonical basis. If I recall the
Playgirl interview correctly, GWD said there that in the FK universe
vampires can have sex and can impregnate, though we never see it in the
show, but presumably it was in the bible somewhere (or Parriott done told
him so).

Also, I have a problem with the idea that draining the victim, er, partner,
is the LAST act. That might work for female vampires, who might even be
able to hold off entirely (see Janette, when Nick is first brought across -
by LaCroix, AFTER he and Janette make the beast with two backs). But if
male vampires only have blood if they've fed recently, and if blood pressure
is necessary for, er, physiological reasons connected with the male
reproductive anatomy, then surely ordinary sex is only possible for (male)
vampires who fed BEFOREHAND?

Which would explain why Nick can't hold off with Alexandra - he needs her
blood in order to go to the obvious next stage. Now if she'd already been a
vampire, they could then go on after he drinks her blood, and whoop it up in
the usual way. But alas, humans so rarely last past the necessary first
step ...

... poor Nat ...

There is absolutely nothing you can do. Usually a company that hosts a site can
control what is on the site, but this site didn't have any porn on the site, it
just pointed to the porn site and the porn site had its own domain, so you can't
do anything about that.

I'm interested to see what thoughts others have on this:

There's a discussion going on in and X-Files list I'm on about
how a certain episode reflects how inextrably sex, death and
religion have been linked in the subconcous mind of western
man for millenia. I think you can see that very strongly
reflected in Forever Knight, even from the very beginning. The
wages of Nick's "sin" of sleeping with Janette was death, or
undeath rather, which led to 800 years of torturously linked
(for Nick) cycles of sex (vamp style anyway) death and
according to his own beliefs, ever increasing religious condem-
nation. I think that basic link is what's behind the very idea
of vampirism. Certainly it's behind Stoker's Dracula.

Then MadiHolmes listed lots of possible superhero indentities, which reminded me
that there is a story which deals with this very topic over here --

The title is "The Vigilante"

Are there any other stories about the FK characters as SuperHeroes?? It seems a

On the subject of guy vamps vs. gal vamps concerning this --

I would like to call to attention the scene in "The Fix" where Nick and
Schanke are walking down the sidewalk--in broad daylight thanks to Nat's
experimental treatment for Nick's "condition"--and this blond bombshell struts
on by. Both guys execute a beeeeoootiful
"male-sees-extremely-desireable-female" slow turn with big goo-goo eyes. The
scene then cuts to "inside Nick's head," where we see what Nick really wants
to do in that moment: bury both fangs in her throat. Cut back to Nick and
Schanke, Nick says "Something's wrong," or suchlike, and Schanke observes that
Nick's looking "a little burnt"--e.g.: the lutoviterine (I probably
misspelled that, mea culpa) is starting to wear off and Nick is responding to
the woman *as a vampire.*

From this scene, I've always taken it that the virus at the root of vampirism
changes the hardwiring for what a vampire registers as arousing or erotic. In
other words, pretty woman walks by, male vampire's fantasy is blood, not doing
the wild thing. Now, if a male vampire had *enough* blood in one sitting,
maybe the secondary patterns of his endocrine system would kick in...

Maybe they're trying to drown out your TV? ;-)

There are two things regarding this, though. One is that, given their
enhanced senses and their mental bonds, vampires probably get pretty used to
mortals and vampires having sex nearby, and experiencing the vibrations of
their 'family' having sex. Also, until recently, privacy was virtually
unknown and having people having sex nearby or in the same room was rather
commonplace. What we today expect in the way of 'proper' behaviour (and
language, for that matter) in these areas only dates from the Victorian era.
I rather think Nick was just bored with the whole thing and wishing Serena
would hurry up already. <g>

>>The scene with Alexandra, also, I thought, showed that Nick expected, at
least, to be capable of 'real' sex <<

IMHO, all it showed was that Nick expected satisfaction *of some kind.* I
love this scene, btw, particularly the way Ger gives her neck a little shake
while his fangs are sunk in, like a terrier with a rat.

>The only problem is that a mortal lover may not survive this final act.

Thus, the flaw in 'why Nick can't get intimate with Natalie': he's been
shown 'sipping' from other women, why not from her? To me the obvious
answer is "because he's starving himself," but that's another topic and just
MHO.

I've always assumed that one would feed first, then proceed to have sex,
then make the transition from plateau to climax with the second feeding.
With two vampires, both feedings could come from the same partner; with a
vampire and a mortal, the vampire would have to 'stock up' first, either
with a first kill or with bottled blood.

Perhaps if cows' blood is boring it's due also to their comparatively
low intelligence, and Nick prefers it, as the lesser evil, for that very
reason? Since vampires can read the blood of others, if he drank the
blood of a really intelligent animal, say that of a pig which many people
claim are a lot smarter than dogs, such a clever animal brain would, I
assume, impact more on its blood. If when imbibing such, vampires
could sense the workings of such an utterly alien mind, maybe even
they would find it extremely disconcerting and if forced to rely on animal
blood prefer more um...vacant hosts? <g>

Greetings!
Don't know if anyone has reminded ya'll {as I'm on digest here} so my
apologies if this is a repeat :), but, I noticed today [via my Digital Cable
Guide] and also just checked and saw that Cheryl has this included in her
EXTENSIVE Monthly FK Alumni ALERT {Thanks, Cheryl!!!} that--

On the SciFi channel ****TODAY****
FRIDAY, April 13, 2001 at 3:00 PM EDT - FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES -episode
"THE BUTCHER" -(CC, Stereo: TV14)
"The swastika of a scientist revives a dead Nazi, who seeks revenge on
Jack's old unit." Nigel Bennett as "Rausch/Walden"

You're probably aware that SciFi Channel schedule for Monday thru Friday
during the day has sorta 'mini-marathons' of various series, changes
daily... and today they're showing "Friday The 13th: the Series" {{{and, if
you're like me and not interested in the "Friday the 13th" MOVIES, FYI, this
series has NOTHING to do with these movies, and even on a couple of ep is
about vampires}}}, has SEVERAL FK alumni -- well, I don't know if you couls
REALLY say that they're FK Alumni... as this series Pre-Dates FK :) ... but
I immensely enjoy seeing the MANY 'Future FK cast and guests' [Catherine
Disher {Nat} is in a few eps... even Gary Farmer {Capt. StoneTree is in
one}... and if the background music sounds familiar, IIRC Fred Mullins {sp?)
who did the FK series music did the music fort this series too! -- this
series and the "Psi Factor" seires currently on TNT mondays thru Fridays -
at 5:00 pm EDT -- has frequent 'visits' by FK folks as guests, in addition
to some as members of the regular cast! :)

So at 3pm, on SciFi Channel, "Friday the 13th: The Series", ep "The Butcher"
[from the 2nd Season 1988, ep #2-19, or ep #45, originally aired 4/29/1989]
with "Rausch/Walden" portrayed by Nigel Bennett [ya know, the EXTREMELY
talented actor who looks and sounds SOOOOO VERRRRY much like our very own
fav 2ooo year old Roman vampire, General Lucius a.k.a. Lucien LaCroix {{{in
case ya'll object to that description, well... how many other "2ooo year old
Roman vampires" do ya know? ...so, by process of elimination, since LC's
PROBABLY the only one... :)= ] and BTW, in this ep, NIGEL portrays a the
host of a RADIO PROGRAM... ummmm a NIGHT CRAWLER 'pre-quel'? ...

for those who celebrate these... wishing you

Perhaps because like I assumed before, drinking blood *is* the wild thing
for them. What ever we (mortals) consider as the 'wild thing' is probably
a minor foreplay to them. Does a human male ever fantasize about just
'kissing' a beautiful woman on the cheek when he sees one?

        Yes. :-)

The desire that a person has is specific and often time
dependent. Is suspect that vampires are the same way.
Sometimes they want blood. Sometimes, something else.
It would depend upon the individual and their mood
