Hey! After fiddling with a million settings on mailing lists, I find that
I'm subbed by the wrong address on a bunch of them which all happen to be
forwarding addresses I can't access or have no idea what they are. So I'm
*getting* mail from fkwar10leaders but can't reply or change my settings.
Luckily I was able to fix my forkni and fkfic settings. Yep, my email
changes as often as the color of my hair.

Could the other heads of Cerberus please contact me? I'm still on that
list, but again, have no idea where or how I'm subbed.

Whoo! I *like* War. What a Val and Tiny's treat!

Subject: end of second season - Blood Money

re: the end of the second season - Showcase, in Canada, shows the episodes
in what I believe was the original order of filming, and Blood Money is the
end of the second season. It also closes with Nick & Janette, Janette
offering to help Nick carry his burdens, and he kisses her. So whether you
take Crazy Love or Blood Money as the season ender, they both show Nick
turning away from humanity & back to his long-time vampire companion.

I have a couple of questions about Blood Money, which I just saw today for
the first time:

- who played the bad guy (I mean Mr. Walken, the one who was actually doing
the killing, or taking out the contracts for them, in order to set up the
younger Mr. duChamps)? I couldn't find him credited anywhere, and I know
I've seen that face.

- what period is the flashback? Nick seems to have committed not only
murder but theft and betrayal of two men, granted not very nice guys, but
he's certainly no better. He's wearing "Cavalier" type clothes, so -
Restoration? But isn't that 17th century? I thought he'd stopped killing
any but bad guys before that. Let alone sinking to theft and betrayal,
which is pretty low for an ex-Crusader at any time.

According to Amy R.'s Flashback Timeline, that would be 1790 France.

Personally, that episode is one of my least favorite.
Why is Nicholas being so cruel at this late of a date?
And amazingly enough, Lacroix is rebuking him for it!
Long-Blonde Fang Boy is acting like daddy and daddy is *upset*. (or was he
just jealous of Nick's abundance of hair in that ep? <eg> Or maybe he was
just testy cuz those long locks reminded him of Fleur?)

I put it with Curioser & Curioser and Last Knight for the Huh? Effect.

...where vampires fear to tread!

I've been on this list for about a year now, and I still haven't found a
faction that I wanted to join. Sure, I like Nick, Nat, etc. but I don't
want to commit to any of the "biggies". So, I invite interested listmembers
to join my new faction: NOTA, short for "None of the Above", also known as
the "One-Hit Wonders". This is an umbrella group for anyone who really
enjoyed a character (mortal or vampire) that showed up in just one episode,
and was still alive at the end of it. Some examples: Serena (Baby, Baby),
Jody Fraser (Blind Faith) & Perry (of course), Dr. Chung (the
acupunturist from Cherry Blossoms), etc. To join, just drop me a note
listing one or more of the characters you liked. Of course, there is
nothing keeping NOTA members from joining other factions too, but this
could be a happy home for other undecided folks like me. Just think what a
powerful group we could be in a war, backed by Katherine Barrington's
money, Dr. Chung's anti-vampire needles, and a platoon of bit-part vampires!

Don't delay, join NOTA today!

If this is a "late date" for Nicholas to be acting cruel, what about that ep
where he, Janette, and LaCroix hunt down that hunter in the woods (can ya
tell I can't remember the name? "g")? I would say from their attire, it
took place in the 18 or 1900's? Remember Janette's hugely puffy sleeves (I
hated that outfit!) -- she looked like she was ready to ride on her
velocipede! "g" Maybe Nick had periods of wishy-washiness (do we find that
surprising? "g") or periods when his bloodlust/instinct to kill took over?

Subject: Blood Money and Nick

Hi Everyone:

I just finished watching that episode ("Blood
Money") and getting the emails attached to this
thread, a couple of things come to mind.

1.) About the Crusader/sinking to a low point
thing: Actually, looting was a big part of the
whole Crusading mentality. (If you go to Venice
and stand in St. Mark's Square, remember most of
the stuff there was taken from Constantinople
after the Fourth Crusade.) During the
Albigensian Crusade, the Languedoc was pillaged,
stripped, burned, etc. etc. (Remember, both
events happened during Nick's mortal lifetime.)
And of course, there's his oh-so-good "lord" who
framed Nick in Wales in the first place.

2.) It strikes me (no pun intended) that Nick is
playing a game with his crooked cohort. He is
having fun in the flashback. As with Sean
DuChamps, the weight of the blood money hadn't
weighed him down yet. As with immortality, the
money does have its effect later.

3.) As far as LC chewing him out over the spoils
of dirty politics....well, I hope he wasn't
living in a glass house at that point.... :)
After what he did in Gaul... (I know he had his
orders, but he took his reward in the spoils and
gave his men the same treatment....)

Okay, enough musing for now. Back to the
writing.

Sincerely,

David

.... and the Unnamed Faction, which does not control any
character (except Don Constantine), has a merry time in the
FK Wars: we've managed to borrow Nick and LC from their
respective factions in the past ... er ... two or three Wars, and
they've met in the UF mansion (which we got from Don
Constantine, keeping it all in the family, as it were). We
cooked and served a medieval-style meal to Nick and the
Knighties in the last War <waves to Chris R.>.

We also keep beehives in our garden, and some of us tend to
drink too much Merlot ....

Our War posts tend to get rather schizoid: silly posts, and some
genuine interaction with and between Nick and Lacroix.

(My favorite War post of all times remains Gehirn Karies' post
that had LC getting Texas Jules out of the cow costume -- nothing
to do with the UF.)

Hmm. I always thought that LC was not objecting to him having 'fun', but to
the fact that large sums of money, ie. gold, would draw the attention of the
authorities.

By the costumes, more likely early 17th Century (Restoration being more
towards the middle of that Century). The history, however -- as McLisa will
tell you -- is totally, but totally, screwed up. "Dauphin" is the French
equivalent of "Crown Prince", and the murder of one in that position would
have most likely been in the history books even until today.

Nick... has his Dark moments as well as his Angsty moments...

Kyer writes:

Because he had too much bad blood to drink?

LC says that as (superior) vamps, they can take what they *need*. Nick's
escapade (1) got him money he didn't need, and for the kidnapping of a
high-enough profile person to not easily escape the notice of the
Enforcers; (2) killed the Dauphin unnecessarily (he already *had* the
ransom money, that would have been more than enough), which would have
brought him into the spotlight of the day's news (and the attention of the
Enforcers); (3) killed his partner-in-crime unnecessarily (he provoked the
guy to a duel knowing the mortal could never win, and he didn't really need
the food)...

>Long-Blonde Fang Boy is acting like daddy and daddy is *upset*.

"Daddy" is "upset" because Nick is acting stupidly. "Daddy" doesn't
deliberately act *stupidly*.

Subject: Re: Admin: What's a war, Mommy? :)

Some characters have multiple factions. Generally, it's the first (main)
faction for the character who controls where the character is in the story,
but if the main faction doesn't sign up for the War, the next faction in
line can be given control of the character (e.g., the Dark Perks had Tracy
for War 10). There are also relationship factions who War (e.g., Unnamed
Faction, Nick-and-Natpackers) as well as factions that are, or seem to be,
based on personal issues and interests (e.g. CoTK, Tequila Fiends), and
there are factions who have few enough full-time members (you can only War
as part of ONE of your factions) that they act as a faction but are
technically Warring as Independents.

Also, if I recall properly, even the relationship factions whose fiction is
too hot for JADFE (is there such a thing as too hot for JADFE?) must keep
their War posts and stories PG-13...

Some additions to McLisa's list:

>Knighties: Nick
Dark Knighties -- like Nick, but as a vamp

>Cousins: LaCroix (why Cousins is a long story)
Light Cousins -- like LC's "warm and fuzzy" side
Nunkies Anonymous -- best to ask Bons about these, but I'd
describe this faction as "has the hots for LC"

>Perks: Tracy
Dark Perks -- like Tracy, as a highly self-assertive woman
(think shocking pink, motorcycles, and high-powered
                 firearms)

Other character factions include:
FoSiLs (Friends of Sidney Lambert -- Nat's cat)
(Do I understand correctly that FoSiL members are primarily
the cats attached to FORKNI-L and FKFIC-L listmembers?)
         Incarnates -- the Inca
         Urchins -- Urs
         Stonetree-ites -- Captain Stonetree
         Cohen-heads -- Amanda Cohen
         Reese's Pieces -- Captain Reese
Woof Pack -- Perry, the Vampire Retriever
Mikkies -- Miklos, the Raven's Bartender
         CaddyWhacks -- the caddy

Relationship factions that have Warred (that I know of):
         Nick and Natpackers (Nick+Nat)
         Unnamed Faction (Nick+Lacroix)

Other relationship factions include:
         CerkPerks (Tracy+Lacroix)
         Immortal Beloveds (Nick+Janette)
         Unholy Trinity (Nick+Nat+Lacroix)
         Valentines (Nat+Lacroix)
         Dark Trinity (Nick+Janette+Lacroix)
         Unholy Alliance (Nick+Nat+Janette)
         Les Miserables (Nick+Urs)
         RoGues (Lacroix+Urs)
         (Nick+Vachon)
         (Tracy+Vachon)
         (Nick+Tracy)
(Nat+Vachon) (is this the Lonelyhearts faction?)
(The Crew -- Vachon, Screed, Urs, Bourbon)

*Some of the factions I recall the relationships, but not the names of the
factions.
**Note that I have used plusses to designate that these factions include
the named characters in relationships, rather than designating with dashes
and slashes whether the factions consider the relationships professional,
platonic, or sexual.

SOmetimes the leaders and participating factions vary from war to war. It is
a little premature to really start saying for sure which factions will
participate, although there's the "standards" such as Ratpackers,
Unamedfaction, etc. you can almost be certain will be there. Sometimes
factions play as one force during the war.

But also leaders sometimes won't be picked until right before.

I think one of my favorites was from War 8. One of the AU Nick's showed up
in a superhero outfit (IIRC) and announced "'Tis I -- Brickman!" (Or
something to that effect.) Had me mopping Diet Coke off my monitor. I
believe War 8 had more than its fair share of soda-spewing moments.

Thanks for the advance warning. I'll be careful about drinking soda (or more
likely, coffee) while reading War e-mail <g> if one gets started.

That was an extremely well written post, but wasn't it Cousin Cherri in the
cow costume? I only ask because part of her retaliation at one point put me
in a beanie baby costume.

a while ago on the list there was some talk on Parriott and whether or not
he had done other series after FK. Well, the other day, watching M6 (don t
suppose we have any French people on the list receiving this channel ????)
 i see credits rolling:
"created by J. Parriott after a story by Anne Rice" and i get the willies
and watch it. But it was something about a ghost, with Dean Cain in the main
role.
Sorry to bring it up after a week or so, but i didn t remember seeing this
series, called "Rag and Bone" mentioned anywhere on the list. Who knows,
maybe someone does get the m6 channel.
