Dear Casting:

You don't think FK Wars are psychologically and intellectually
draining enough without adding a bilingual element?!

As for <koff koff> cross-overs, they are <koff koff> prohibited

Bonnie Kate....THANK YOU!

I've been sitting here commiserating with my blankets and heating pad,

I was just re-reading those stories where LC got stuck with Nick's cure on
the plane while Nick and Nat were going to get married? And I remembered
reading another LC gets Mortal-ized story with a metal snake that bites him.

I know there must be more of these little gems <evil smirk> somewhere (I
wrote one myself once), but does anyone remember authors or titles?

Or is there a site that helps people find such strange stuff?

Would that be with Fleur?

I can't give details, but I am looking specifically for a fic that featured
Fleur and Natalie taking LC out to experience mortal food while Nick ponders
whether he should bring LC back across. ('cause Nick for some reason was the
only one who can.)

Feel thou not persecuted, Oh Splintered One. Thou and I know'st that thou
art not alone in thy tongue-in-cheek (or not so) castigations of the
"en-morgued" one. Abundantly can'st be found missives and chronicles
deriding the efforts of that curlicued maid in'st the transformation of our
most beloved erstwhile equestrian. All who fear not to confront
brave-faced the most lamentable truth of "Last Knight" know 'twas Monsieur
LaCroix who achieved the fair Knight's re-mortalized state in his creation

<snip> Not to get into a feminist arguement here, but I thought the point of
feminism was to give women the rights to do whatever they chose -- whether that's
to go out and be some corporate mogul or to stay at home and raise the kids.<snip>

The point isn't that all women have to break through glass ceilings, the point
is that women have the opportunity to pursue the life that makes them content
and fulfilled, whether that's being Madonna, a mother or an orthodontist.

What gives me nightmares about Urs is that she's 120 years old. She's lived
through the suffrage movement and the ERA. She's had the time to develop
interests and a career in an area other than dancing. It's not that she's a
dancer that bothers me. It's that she shows no change from the mortal Urs we
see in 'Hearts of Darkness.'
She's still performing for male approval, and she still has a low self-image.
It's one thing to enjoy being in touch with your sexuality, it's another to
feel trapped by it. In 'Hearts of Darkness,' Urs says she felt trapped, as a
mortal and in present day. She doesn't see her own capacity for freedom
during most of her appearances. (Note that I wrote 'most.' I'll get to my
exception in a couple paragraphs.)

<snip> Enabler? You mean Urs enabling Nick? Or Nick enabling Urs? I think
there is an arguement for either, but I think there is also an agrument for them
actually helping each other: Urs finally having a relationship with a man which
wasn't based solely on sex, and Nick having someone to help, to teach, who could
also make him feel that his quest for mortality isn't a solitary one. I think a
Nick/Urs relationship would do a lot for each of their self-esteem.<snip>

I meant that I'm wary that Nick and Urs would enable each other, feeding each
other's unhappiness by example. I agree somewhat that a friendship between the
two of them could have a positive benefit, mainly Nick benefitting by escaping
the isolation of being the only vampire wanting mortality. I'm not so attuned to
the idea of Urs having a man as a mentor. From HoD, obviously a large portion of
her issues stem from relationships with men. Maybe the 'hair of the dog that bit
you' approach could work if Urs had a positive, companionable experience with
Nick, but I still don't seeing any romance working there.

More that I think on it though, I'm not comfortable with the idea of any mentor
- male, female, undefined - being the solution to what torments Urs. I think,
like Nick, Urs would have to find happiness on her own, not defined
by another person, to be truly content.

The tag scene of HoD is interesting, because Urs acknowledges being abandoned
by her father and how that led to her abusive relationships and searching for
approval. She's self-aware now, there's a hint she's changing, but when Vachon
asks her if she still wants to die, she doesn't answer.

The reason why I think Urs' fight with Divia is THE strong moment for the character
is that she finally answers Vachon's above question. She doesn't want someone to
kill her anymore. By fighting for her survival, she's affirming her self-worth.
Woohoo! In Urs' last scene, she is a changed person compared to the other urchin
glimpses in the series. She's no longer this feminist's nightmare, no longer a
child needing approval, but her own woman.

Interesting that he didn't have a problem bringing men across, if we use
these examples as some sort of scientific sampling. Sorry to all the UFers
(of which I'm one) but maybe the problems happened when his primary sexual
orientation as involved. If he could keep his emotions in check, he could
do just fine bringing someone across.

The correct term in Canada is Coroner, not Medical Examiner which is
an American term. Also, since the building they show inthe stock
shots is the Ontario Coroner's Building, she would be known as a
provincial Coroner.

For anyone who has a Magic 8 Ball, could you please tell me what each of the
"responses" are -- I can even remember how many there are, but then I guess
that's what makes it magic. <G>

I wonder if the FK characters ever used a Magic 8 Ball....

NICK: "Should I keep Tracy as my new full-time partner?"
MAGIC 8 BALL: "Ask again later, after she covers your butt in Human Factor."

Screed: "How 'bouts I nibble on a wee ol' squealer of the ultra-brite complexion
tanite?"
MAGIC 8 BALL: "The answer, like your question, is unclear."

Tracy: "I don't have any solid proof, but I really have a feeling that my
partner Nick is keeping some deep, dark secret from me. Could he, maybe,
possibly, be a ... vampire?"
MAGIC 8 BALL: "Everyone else will tell you no and so will I."

Well, he *did* successfully bring across Elizabeth (the leper) -- though he
had to destroy her when she insisted on using her powers and her hunger to
wreak revenge (or was that havoc?).

On a similar tack, Janette had problems bringing people across 'cos she
kept drinking 'til there was nothing left... yet she most likely brought
across the Baroness (ILCK), and was about to bring across the prostitute
(AFWTD). Could it be that Janette has a similar problem where her "primary
sexual orientation" is involved?

Marg is this correct then. Or does she sign her 'name' with differnt titles
after the sur name. In the states, that is what she would use. Please

That isn't the point. I personally believe that while FK vampires have a
primary sexuality (unless, of course, they are bi as mortal), there's a
certain comfort and erotic nature to the taking of blood from anyone,
especially one's master.

There may be some who think Nick might be gay, but I think most who can see
him having relations with males, or even just LaCroix, feel Nick, as a
vampire, just likes to get around.

And UF believes in studying and discussing the relationship of Nick and
LaCroix in ANY form, not just sexual. Some just can't see them together in
that way, while others can.
