Well, I said it's not *as* tonal as Chinese, which IMO is more "sing-song" when
listened to by a Western ear. We have a large Vietnamese population here in the
Twin Cities and I get to hear it spoken quite a bit, and to me it sounds much
less up-and-down than Chinese.

IMO, etc.

For the record, as the potential flamee, I didn't think there was
any heat. I interpreted the response as that from a classic car
lover who thinks they look better original instead of "mutilated".

Except I doubt she would be able to afford it. And anyhow, Tracy strikes me as
the Honda Civic or Accord type (I am obviously not a DP <G>).

Can someone forward the traffic from the 4th to Hack1? And let us know on

Ger said at some point that LC's "That hurt!" during the fight in DK 2 was
an ad lib which was left in. I loved it even before I knew that.

Ger also told a story somewhere about one of his attempts to jump over the
couch with the flaming stake. He came acropper, crash! with Nigel laughing
in the background. It's a pity the first season never had a blooper reel. :)

>1. Why did they decide to make Schanke even more annoying by changing "Papa
>mow mow" to polka music? (Although, polka music does suit Schanke more...)

I like the polka music, and especially the way Schanke changes to it. I've
always suspected it's a secret passion, like the opera he gets caught tuning
in for at the end of Dead Air.
>
>2. How *did* LaCroix get out of this one?

I've always thought, from looking closely, that Nick missed the heart. Also
note that we only see LC's clothes drop to the floor, burning. Yes, I
realize this brings up a rather _interesting_ mental picture of LC's escape
after he pulled out the torch <g>, and yes, I realize this was due to low
budget and the fact that the union wouldn't let them actually torch Nigel
<evil grin>. But it does explain things. I have also always thought that
Nick purposely doesn't tell Nick what happened because if he did, Nick might
avoid the mitake next time.

>3. Why is it that Nat didn't get Alyce's body on her table, or at least
>wonder where the body went?

She probably knows, as the final scene is obviously a few days later at
least. The police probably think Alyce survived but has left town. No doubt
Nick judiciously rearranged some memories, possibly with some help from
Janette.

>4. Where *did* they get that ring LaCroix was wearing?

I don't know, but seem to recall that Nigel said in an interview or at a con
that it was always falling open. It's a poison ring.

5. And did LC have to *tease* us by licking his fingers?

Of course. He wouldn't be LC if he didn't. :)

>6. And where did Alyce go, anyway? Ger said at that Toronto Trek that the
actress had been contracted for 4 appearances, but that the producers
decided against it, so she only did Dark Knight.

My personal guess is that they saw the total lack of chemistry with Ger's
Nick, realized that they didn't need a vampire counterweight for Janette,
when the triangle would be much more effective with Nat as a mortal. CD and
Ger apparently decided on the subtext that Nat was in love with Nick and
that Nick's reaction would be ambiguous. This show allowed the cast a lot
more freedom than most. I heard Deb say at a con that the only instructions
she was given initially was to remember that Janette was "very much in love"
with Nick. Getting back to DK, it probably made a considerable difference
that Jack had been changed to Nat, thus inevitably affecting the
relationship.

> "Nick Knight" Questions

> 1. Is blue-green really better than black in a Caddy?

No! Cars are much sexier with fins. And cars with fins are much sexier in
black. So much more predatory.

>
>
> 2. Is Schanke more or less believable as a skinny guy?

He wasn't that much skinnier. But Skinny Schanke was a bit more oily. Chubby
Schanke talked about Myra and Jenny a lot. He had redeeming qualities. Skinny
Schanke had none of this. He was the sort that you fled from in bars.

>
>
> 3. Could you get away with calling a skinny cop "Donut"?

It dosen't really work. Even if donut was supposed to refer to his shooting
ability, rather than his waist size.

> 4. Can Rick Springfield really compare with Geraint Wyn Davies?

Rick did Angsty really well. But Ger did cultured so much better. Overall,
I'd have to say that It was more consistant to see Ger in his frilly poet's
shirt painting that sun than Rick in his leather jacket.

>

> 5. What *were* the casting people smoking when they cast Michael Nader as
> LaCroix?

It had to be Drain-o There's no other explanation. Nader's Lacroix was a
fluffy, pop DJ with a Heavy Metal edge, and was no where near as meanacing as
Nigel Bennet's Lacroix. Bennet's Lacroix could menace more with an upraised
eyebrow than Nadier's Lacroix could while weilding a scythe.

>
>
> 6. Is blood really better microwaved?

I would think that heated blood would seperate into it's components faster.
And it would probably spoil. You don't microwave milk, so you shouldn't
microwave blood.

While I'm wondering it. Do people who get transfusion get cold blood, or do
they heat it before transfusing it?

>
>
> 7. Would LaCroix be caught dead with fangs that tiny?

Size does matter.

>
>
> 8. Is it really wise for a vampire to have a listed number?

No. Nor is it wise for a detective to have one. For that matter, It's
probably not wise to tell an expert in Myan writing that your door combination
is the same as the numbers on those myan ruins. She *might* be a stalker. And
she *probably* will be able to decipher them.

1. Which caddy *really* has more trunk space?
I think that the older black caddy has more. Based on the statement by both
Nick's that their particular Caddy has the most trunk space of any made in the
last 30 years.

Cheesy Rationalization tells me that Nick Knight, was made first. It's an
older movie. By the time Dark Knight was made, the thirty year span had moved
to exclude the year model of the Black Caddy, and the big green monster did
have the most trunk space.
So therefore, the black caddy had the most of the two.

2. Doesn't Nick portray the 'scruffy look' elegantly?
Yes, although Vachon does it better.

3. Shouldn't Nick have 'refueled' before going looking for LaCroix? I
mean, he knew he's been trying to talk LC into giving him his freedom for
how many centuries and that a little force would be necessary, it seems only
prudent that he'd have taken precautions.

Well, Nick is often the victim of his own huberus.

4. Which jade cup do you like better? I favor the one in "Nick Knight"
personally.
Same. The one in Dark Knight isn't myan looking.

5. Why did they replace the first old guard that died with another old
guard? It's pretty evident the first one didn't work out.

Because most security guards are either off duty, or retired (i.e. old) police
officers.

6. Where did they get the idea for that frilly cape that LaCroix was
wearing and did the one who suggested it get slapped?
If not, I'll offer to slap them myself.

1. Why did they decide to make Schanke even more annoying by changing "Papa
mow mow" to polka music? (Although, polka music does suit Schanke more...)

Because Polka music suited schankie more. Also it was funny, and season 1 FK
had a bit of humor threaded through it that seasons 2 and three didn't have.
(notice that when nick was glaring at schankie, and looking at the damage to
the caddy in the body shop that you could hear a faint undertone of "I love a
polish polka")

2. How *did* LaCroix get out of this one?
The little vampire elves helped them with their magic vampire dust?

3. Why is it that Nat didn't get Alyce's body on her table, or at least
wonder where the body went?

She was buying into Nick's theory of evaporation as well.
Nat: So what happened to the body, Nick?
Nick: Um . . . It evaporated.

4. Where *did* they get that ring LaCroix was wearing?
Estate auction?
Garage sale?
Tijauana?
On loan from a museum?
Owned by a prop guy?

5. And did LC have to *tease* us by licking his fingers? (Wait, you can
refuse not to answer that one, I know some of you are more interested in
Nick and his scruffy look <g> *And* that some of you were entranced by
Schanke's <um> Polka <?> look.)

It was heavy with sexual innuendo. (I'll let you slashers use your
imagination. I refuse to be led down that path).

6. And where did Alyce go, anyway? I mean, it would have been great had
she shown up in Killer Instinct, you know, with LC, it would have made the
whole thing a little more believable IMHO.

She probably secretly stalked Nick untill he staked her. Sooner or later he
stakes all his relatives (except janette)

And too bad Cassar wasn't directing then, or we might be able to get the

I've taken two years of Mandarin Chinese,it works the same way.
There are 4 different variances, to non-native speakers the word can sound
exactly the same or extremely similiar. Also, you can have words
pronounced exactly the same but written different ways and mean different
things. Hence the possibilities exist for more puns in Chinese than
Shakespeare could ever to with old English.

I don't know Vietnamese, but I had a Vietnamese friend in my Chinese class,
there are 6 different tones in Vietnamese.

A romantic rival to her mysterious vampire? I rather think she said "good

Box of Cracker Jacks from Nat's apartment. (Obviously LC was scoping out
Nick's new friends before he made his appearance.)

LC licked his fingers? I don't know---too busy watching scruffy Nick. <g>

There was at least one fic done on this. Can't remember title or author,
but it had some other vampire plotting to use dark magic to bring back his
old black arts partner, LaCroix, from death---then together they would get
revenge on his killer. Only he discovered that LC's mind was trapped in
with Alyce's. It was a weird story---which is why I remember at least that
much! <g>

In the excellent new novel ON HOLY GROUND (do I have that title right?), he
spends his presumed-dead period comatose in the depths of the Raven, being
