An information packet similar to ones networks/production co.'s hand out on their shows (like the one from FK ), would have all the important information included and make it simple and direct for the person it's sent to to understand what we are all about. This packet should be sent to any media contacts as well. A more involved packet could include demographic surveys and merchandise requests. Comments from critics, fans and stats on increased viewership. Whew!! Any thoughts on hitting NAPTE again next year, not to sell FK for a fourth season but to gather/disperse information? I have also used it for those who liked the show and missed it on USA, but had no idea it was also showing in syndication. They were sent out to media contacts all over the place. As she recently posted to this list, she still has some on hand. If you have suggestions of places to send them, why not post them? With all due respect, may I suggest that everyone who wasn't involved in the original SOS-FK campaign read the excellent posts from Susan Garrett (Slumping parts 1 and 2) and Laurie Cohen Fenster (re: SOS-FK (History) long). I'm sure that there are some great new ideas out there for steps to take to try to keep the interest in FK flowing, and I'd love to hear them. There are some very few things that it pays to duplicate and repeat, but it never pays to do exactly the same thing again and again. While we were encouraged to write to TPTB, the advertisers and anyone else we could think of that might help, one of the things that was stressed when the SOS-FK campaign got off the ground was NEVER to send duplicate letters. Every letter we sent had to be different from every other one. Could you please explain to me exactly what you think can be accomplishing by duplicating the press kits that already exist? It takes a lot of time and costs a fair bit of money to put together and mail out those kits. Since we've already done this, wouldn't this time and money be better spent on a "new" idea. >If the team that provided all that terrific work is justifiably tired now, >let them have the help of "new blood". As Susan Garrett already posted today, "we're doing the best thing possible, buying CDs and writing letters. It's quiet, but it's THE most effective response we can make at this time." If you really want to make a contribution to the SOS-FK campaign, write letters to TPTB, buy the CD, buy products from people who advertise during FK and send you receipts and a thank you letter to the advertiser, etc. If anyone has any new ideas to put forward, we are all very happy and eager to discuss them. 'Forever Knight' is an example of a program that has existed long beyond the lives of most low rated programs. It continues to find new homes because of a 'belief' in the program not only by loyal viewers like yourself, but also by programmers. In the discussion of various ways to get the word out to the Un-Webbed, I have a *surprisingly* low-tech suggestion. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a printed word addict. I read flyers stapled to phone polls and the signs on the bus. I am planning on putting together a single sheet flyer about our favorite obsession and putting it in likely places: University kiosks, bulletin boards in colleges, natural foods grocery stores, every new age and alternative goods shop, every used book store I can get to, video stores. Some of the alternative papers (weeklies, mostly) have a *very* low cost ad section -- snail mail, email and internet sites can be listed along with a short blurb for *pennies*. If you can convince them it's a "public service" gig, sometimes they'll do it for free. Flyers will go to every con I either attend or can get them to. This includes areas not usually involved in such things, like the Deep South (a fannish wasteland with a few *wonderful* oases). We don't have to have tonnes of cash. We don't have to have high tech. So, no, I would say he is not up to speed. But his words are otherwise encouraging. Regarding SOS-FK: I think it's wonderful that so many newcomers are so enthusiastic about pushing the SOS campaign, relieving some of us *oldtimers* of some of the burden. I would just encourage everyone to be patient and to realize that probably nothing is going to happen for months at the very least, if not a year or two. It's important not to burn yourself out, or to get disappointed when nothing seems to be coming of your efforts. The best things that all of us can be doing right now are: (1) writing letters to Sony, TriStar, USA, SFC, our local syndies, FK sponsors; (2) creating more fans by showing episodes to our friends; and (3) passing around flyers locally, to advise the net-impaired fans among us of the ongoing efforts to revive FK. I don't think we're likely to have much luck with the national media at the moment, though there's no harm in trying - and if we keep it up long enough, they may just talk to us to avoid being nagged <g>. But, frankly, at the moment, there is no story. The show has been cancelled. If they wouldn't talk to us or publicize our efforts in the afterglow of the NATPE effort, I don't see them doing it now. However, if we keep the effort up for a year or so; if we keep growing the fandom despite the cancellation -- then there may be a story someone will be willing to cover. As always, just my two cents.
