They didn't just *paint* the Caddy, they *scrapped* it! The Caddy in the
original was a black, 1959 Ragtop. The TV series' Caddy is a turquoise 1962
Ragtop -- which, BTW, does *not* merit the "more trunk space than any car in
the last 30 years" comment that the '59 *definitely* did.

Personally, I *liked* that '59 -- it was lower, sleeker, but still had the
fins <G>. I felt it was a much more impressive and "Nick-like" car. The
'62 was always a little *too* chunky for my taste. And *that color*!!! :P
One of the few things I would actually have kept from the original, having
now seen both NK:Video and DK.

Thanks! :)

And now, so this post won't be a complete waste of bandwidth for most people
(I hope), I thought I'd share an amusing story. I've been showing a friend
of mine some FK tapes (She's sort of half-way across: she's not a fan, but
she does recognize the high quality of FK, and enjoys watching the shows I
bring over), and I mentioned LC's line about war's being noisy, but also being
a source of free food. Now my firend (who has a five year old daughter)
commented, "Oh...Kind of like McDonalds? Noisy, but with cheap food.") So

What Nick said in Cherry Blossoms was that he hadn't killed anyone in
a hundred years, not that he hadn't drunk human blood. We've seen
examples of drinking without killing in the series, so he was not
necessarily lying.

So far we haven't, that I recall, seen him kill anyone solely for food.
He's killed in war time and other situations that our society doesn't
usually call murder, but not simply because he was hungry and got out
of control since ca. 1890 and the dancer in Love You to Death/To Die For.

As for hypocrisy, Nick was, after all, trying to talk the old man out of
killing *him* at the time. :)

Vampire Poem

"No flesh gilds your bones
And in your heart is darkness
But broken in your eyes, a glowworm
sings to me,
Come feed on me in darkness, love, and rock
me in your cradle, for in the dark I feel
your heat, and day breaks

If I were to say;
That Catherine Disher has beautiful eyes, a very expressive face, and plays
one of the most entertaining women characters that I've ever seen.
That Geraint Wyn Davies has a voice that is both happy and light, or dark and
menacing, that he has what looks like very touchable and fun hair, and he
possesses an incredible face that can appear convincingly demonic or angelic.

That Nigel Bennett can express through lips alone what many actors can't do
with their whole body, that he proves buzz cuts can be really stunning when
worn with the right attitude, that in only 30 seconds of screen time he can
convey what a character is feeling with enough sensuality to knock a few
unprepared viewers to their knees.

Then the answer is yes I would like that to happen. Of course I'd probably
die from complete terror when someone pointed out that the person in question
was standing behind me. But if I lived through that, then yeah, it would be
great <gulp>.

   Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the FK mailing list, I've been lurking for about a week

found the WEB sights and the mailing list I was one of those people who
would get the "Forever who?" reaction everytime I mentioned the show.
Anyway I discovered the show about halfway through the second
season, I believe it was. I remember it wasn't long after "Interview W/
The Vampire" was in the theatres, which before IWTV, I wasn't much of a
"Vampire person" (I tended to find the old vampire movies
boring.....forgive me please!!!) but Ann Rice gave the whole thing a
new perspective (the vampire point of view) and from there I was
fascinated and hooked, then I found FK and again I was hooked!! I love
this show and am very sad about the cancelation ( I thought sure it
would be around for a long time!!) I just love GWD and his portrayl of
Nick!! I am fortunate to have friends in Rochester NY and was able to
visit Toronto last fall, although unfortunately the set was closed to
tours at the time due to a very tight production schedule it was still
great to be in the city where my favorite tv show takes place. I have
to say that I think they really capture the "feel" of the city really
well on the show because when I got home and watched the ep of FK that
I taped while I was gone the scenes shot outside had such a realistic
feeling to them, I hope that made sense!!
Sorry to ramble about myself, I'm just so happy to have found people
who love FK, although everyone here is so knowledgable, that I feel a

Hi all.

First off, thank you EVERYONE who wrote and offered me a tape.
Wowee, what a nice bunch of people. Siona and I managed to hook up!

Sandra asked for the text of this interview, the one where GWD
mentioned an erotic undercurrent to the Nick/Lacroix relationship
--here is the relevant portion:

this interview was during second season, incidentally

        New Orleans Times-Picayune, Nov. 6, 1994

<snip>

He has the blood lust of his race, but he also sees the attraction
of being mortal -- perhaps because of the attractiveness of his cop
comrade, played by Catherine Disher. She has an equally vampy vampire
counterpart, portrayed by Deborah Duchene.

Thus Nicholas Knight is battling to become human while being
forced to deal with his inhuman elements. Says the actor, "It's like the
little boy in Dickens standing on the outside of the window looking in at
the Christmas turkey, and he can't get inside."

There's an additional element of sexual conflict, besides the two
women. In this season's opening episode, the evil mentor LaCroix had a
drop of blood on his fingertip which he offered to Nicholas. The offer,
and the contact between finger and mouth, went beyond just vampire
buddies.

"Oh sure, absolutely," Davies noted, the sexual aspect between the
male vampires is right there. "The theory has been put forward that we
are not so much androgynous as completely sexual. And, as actors, we had
no problem playing with that.

"Vampires aren't everyday stuff. And by playing into the
mythical, you can cross barriers and get into some pretty hot stuff. If
you worry about a backlash, you can always hide behind the cape.

"As performers, we've done 44 episodes. You start looking
around."

<snip>

*******

Here's another interesting GWD sound bite:

        Houston Chronicle, Nov. 11, 1995

Looking down the road, specifically to his last "Knight" as Nick,
Davies ponders how the show might end.

"If we get to go out with a last episode of our choosing, it could
go one of two ways," Davies says. "Nick becomes mortal or he dies,
proving it's futile for a vampire to seek his mortality again.

"I'd like to see him become mortal. I guess I'm just a
Disney-movie kind of guy."

Yep. That's my impression as well. I think the conflict here
is due in part to people confusing the dream at the beginning
of the episode as being part of the subsequent flashbacks. Dreams
are different from flashbacks. In BB, Nick dreamt that he munched
on the French chewtoy. In the flashbacks (which indicate what
*actually* happened), it's implied that he let the woman go down
with the ship (per her insistence, if I remember correctly.)

Now maybe someone can clear up something for me. I watched 1966 for the
first time a few weeks ago, and I couldn't decide whether or not he drained
those he killed or not. I don't think it specifically showed him draining
them (no telltale bloodstained lips or anything, although he did remind me
of a lion hunched over its prey after a tasty snack), but he did vamp out to
kill them.

Did he? Didn't he?

Verity (our way-cool postmaster and way-too-nice guy) to remove FKSPOILR
from PSUVM.

Let me be clear on this. FKSPOILR is being shut down. Why? There
are no new episodes to hash out that will require spoiler protection.
What about this virtual season? Let me point you to FKFIC-L. That is
what it is for. I honestly don't see the need for a whole separate list
for stuff we already have a list for.

Let me stress to everyone that our lists are a *MAJOR* drain on PSU's
listserver. We have well over 1000 ppl on FORKNI-L now. It generates two
or three or four digests a day. People at PSU are getting really cranky
about how much space on their allegedly academic listserver is being
taken up by non-academic lists. By no means are we the only non-ac lists
on here, but we are prolly their biggest non-ac drain. That makes us a
target. So, giving up FKSPOILR could possibly give us a slightly longer
lease on the FORKNI-L/FKFIC-L lease on life.

If anyone is interested in hosting really massive mailing lists, or knows
of a site who might be interested, lemme know.

Red,
Crayonical Listowner.

Oh, dear, my partner has done it again. I came home to a message letting me
know about a sick newborn my partner had at the hospital. All was well until
he told me the name: Baby Boy Vachon. Argh! This is the same partner who
has a patient named Nicholas B. Knight. (I think he goes out of his way to
do this to me. ;)

No, not that I'm aware of anyway. I'm from Louisville, KY so I
wouldn't think so. My dad was originally from Vermont though and I know
that the name "Bedard" is pretty common around Ontario and areas just
south of the Canadian boarder there...who knows!! I just thought it was
cool to see MY last name on the screen during the opening credits,
especially growing up with no one being able to pronounce it right!!!
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I'm really looking forward to
becoming part of the list, and hopefully becoming more knowledgable
myself (now that I know where to find all of the FK info.....yum!!)
Also yes I found all of the fan club info, and plan on joining a few,
especially Ger's!!!! BTW anyone out there know where I can get sood
photos? I have to say (and I hope I'm not being disrespectful with
this) the man is absolutely "beautiful" to look at and watch, and not
to mention so very talented!! He makes Nick so believable!!

Again it's great to know that I wasn't the only one out there taping
and re-watching every chance I could get!! I love how everyone looks
for the deeper meaning behind everything in the shows...here I thought
it was just me all of this time!!! OK now that I've posted you guys
probably won't be able to shut me up!!! (smile)

Hi all! :)

Wanted to let everyone know that I just put up the pictures from Black
Buddah pt. 1. My only complaint about them is I couldn't get rid of that
&%$# USA logo, fortunatly it didn't turn up in the BB 2 pics which I'll put
up in a couple weeks.

http://www.aracnet.com/~dmd/fkpics.html

I also put up the Last Knight sounds that Laura (Ephemeral Noises) featured
last week. When she changes her sounds so will I, that way anyone who
missed them the 1st time around will have a second chance.

Enjoy!!

A few of us would be VERY interested in having them.

Subject: Mercenaries (late night silliness)

(John, in a bizarre mood)

I was looking at a web page that listed FK affiliations and realized
that the mercenaries leave much about themselves unsaid. For instance,
the preferred payment is chocolate. But of what sort? Do they all want
the same kind? How unlikely. Many different sorts of people joined the
French Foreign Legion. Isn't it likely to be the same for FK mercs?

As I see it, there are three kinds of people attracted to this lifestyle.

1) The brawler. This person joined the mercenaries for the love of a
good fight. Chocolate, cheap and plentiful, is consumed as something to
do between battles. Hershey and Nestle would be preferred.

2) The fallen aristo. Sometimes after one has dealt with a cad as he
deserves on the field of honor, one finds that even cads can have powerful
friends. What is left but to seek one's fortune elsewhere? For this
cultured palate, only Ghiradelli or Lindt will do.

3) The third sort? Ah friend, one never asks why they joined. But
observe that the only chocolate consumed is bittersweet, for only that is
strong enough to dull the pain of memory.
