I've always wondered if Nick was actually as clueless as he acted. I mean, the man IS nearly 800 years old... I can't see him not really knowing what was going on with Natalie. The fact that Natalie was giving confusing signals didn't help... getting mad at him for showing up in her apartment and 'ruining' the end of her day with Roger and then getting madder at him for telling her in the morgue that he was glad she was seeing someone... but still, he had to have some IDEA as to what was really bugging her. I've also always wondered if Roger didn't deliberately pick Natalie. At the beginning of the ep she hinted that she'd thought about trying a dating service... could she have made a tape (in which case they'd have a file on her) but then changed her mind before they made it available to other members? I just thought that the meeting with Roger was a little too coincidental. On another note... does anyone know if there are any flashbacks to Nick's life in the late 1970's or early to mid 1980's? I couldn't find any when I quickly scanned through my DVD's, but that doesn't mean that I didn't miss them. I had a story idea, but I need an idea of what Nick was doing in that time frame. "Thick as a brick" doesn't describe Nick just because! *G* In all seriousness, this is also one of my very favorite episodes. (Of course, the fact that I am a true-blue N&NPacker always doesn't hurt!) I loved seeing how it all came about in terms of Nick meeting Nat. It is still one of the most...unique...first meetings ever. :-) As for Roger not picking Nat randomly, it is a good theory, but I don't know. I just took Nat saying she had thought about it at just that, thinking. But it is certainly a new angle to that train of thought. Finally, I can't say that I recall any flashbacks to the 1970s or 1980s. There seems to have been flashbacks to every time period *but* those, unless I missed them, too. But since you're interested in possibly writing a fic, maybe some creative license wouldn't be out of bounds here. I've got a fic in beta that alludes to Nick having a rough time before he meet Natalie and became a cop but it doesn't go into any detail as of right now. KC Smith I think it would be a great idea for you to write your story. The way I see it, the writers never got around to filling in those blanks so therefore they're open to interpretation. I'd love to read what people come up with. eruve erundun writes: > Could it be a fashion reason for not having flashbacks of our >oh-so-fashionable vampires in that >period? > 1980 - "Miami Vice"- style for the guys. I think Nick is totally channeling Don Johnson there. On ocassion he's worn that pink t-shirt with a gray sports jacket. I guess now would be as good a time as any to say that I'm obsessed with season 1 wardrobe across the board. And for a quasi plug I've even got a fansite in the works that looks at FK fashions--the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm looking at you back dress shirt with the white stripes. ::shutters:: cousinlucilla writes: > > 1980 - "Miami Vice"- style for the guys. Not to mention the song they use for her entrance. I've got screengrabs to compare 'Nick Knight' with 'Forever Knight' for my work in progress fansite. For those who haven't seen the movie it's loads of fun. In my "to be written someday" pile of fan fiction ideas is Toronto Vice. A jaded, arrogant, unshaven Nick would be Crockett (Don Johnson's Role). Schanke would be Tubbs, complete with affecting a "south of the border" accent for undercover work (I was thinking California beachbump valleyspeak instead of Jamacian) as they try to cut off the evil smugglers bringing illicit cargo across the border into Canada. Stonetree would be perfectly named and cast as the laconic police captain (edward James olmos's role). I hadn't figured out the rest of the cast yet. LaCroix as the evil criminal mastermind that is always 1 step ahead? Janette as the Vice squad prostitution decoy with the biggest record of arrests in the city? Song cues would be in the fiction, referencing popular 1980s songs if someone wanted the complete experience. One of these days.... The fact that Natalie was giving confusing signals didn't help... [snip] This one rates very highly on my list of faves also. However clueless Nick may seem at times, I don't think he didn't realize what was up with Natalie. Maybe ... if there had been just one such discussion with her, but after the conversation in her apartment and then the conversation later in morgue, combined with the fact that he'd known her for several years at this point, I think Nick knew EXACTLY what was eating her, but since he had no intention of going there, he chose simply to ignore it. As for confusing signals from Natalie, Nick wasn't exactly steadfast in that department either. IIRC, he signed the birthday card "with affection," yet his demeanor and behavior at Natalie's apartment said anything but "just friends." [snip] At the beginning of the ep she hinted that she'd thought about trying a dating service... could she have made a tape (in which case they'd have a file on her) but then changed her mind before they made it available to other members? I just thought that the meeting with Roger was a little too coincidental. [snip] I suppose it's possible, but I don't think it's something she actually went through with since she only mentioned having thought about it. And, going with this scenario, that would make her encounter with Roger purely coincidental. I think, in this instance, Roger just saw an opportunity and ran with it. :) Boomer ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2007 09:00:04 -0700 From: - Annonymous <littlelotte1881@c.......> Subject: Re: Only the Lonely As Crockett, I could see Nick speeding down the road in a red Ferrari to Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" Lol!
