How many times have we been subjected to "cliff hanger" season enders on TV? Always, the next episode would come along to tie up all the loose ends. If there had been a fourth season, my idea was that they could have handled that horrible scene by having LaCroix throw away the stake in frustration because he realized he would lose Nicholas -- one way or another -- if Natalie would die. After all, he and Nicholas had finally grown close again after so long. So, to save his favorite son (and keep Nick's love), I could see LaCroix scooping Natalie up and depositing her at the nearest emergency room. So my apologies if this is old hat, but: I was chatting about Screed to a close friend of mine (okay, so I'm married to him) who is also a big Clockwork Orange fan (most of Screed's slang is drawn from that movie). What I didn't know was that most of the bizarre slang terms are Russian! Malenky=bad, droogies=buddies, malchik=male friend, etc. (I'm guessing at the spellings, folks!) So Screed either a) is a big Clockwork Orange fan too; or b) speaks Russian. Considering we know from the FK episode "Fever" that he was a sailor," it is easy to assume and deduct that he's picked up some Russian. We also hear a few words of "Screedized" Spanish. Thanks, because although we did know about the Russian via Clockwork Orange, I don't think anyone's ever posted meanings before.
