<<Ok, then, give it a name that has Forever Knight in it. Ask for it when you
<<order a drink. Of course, the bartender will say he doesn't know how to make
<<it, but you tell him/her, and explain that it's based on the show etc. etc.

Ok, hows this:

Uncle on the Rocks
LaCroix on the Beach
Uncle Fizz
Salty Uncle
LaCroix Daquiri (ribena flavored of course..wow! that actually sounds good)
LaCroix-Tai
Uncle Colada
Uncle Martini(definitely shaken, not stirred)
Bloody Uncle
LaCroix Wallbanger
Uncle Gimlet
LaCroix Sling
Fuzzy Uncle( 1st season Uncle...hey! I liked his hair that way!)
and my personal favorite......
The Screaming LaCroix-gasm ( let your imagination take you where it
may...mine did)

So whaddya think Cousins??? Shall we open a bar???

I know, it would have to be at night, but I love the beach at night. Much
nicer than during the day.

Totally non-alcoholic. What you do with them, however, is your business ;)...

THE BRITISH UNDEAD

Ingredients: tea (not herbal), Ribena to taste. Make the tea in a container
separate from your mug in the British style (bring cold water to a boil,
then add leaves). Put as much Ribena as you want in a mug. When the tea is
still hot, and as strong as you want, pour it over the Ribena. For Star
Trek fans, Earl Grey would probably be really good. Iced would also be good
(made, then chilled).

BLOODY FREEZING

Vanilla ice cream, milk, Ribena. Throw in a blender.

HEADWOUND

Ribena, heavy cream or milk, club soda. Mix the Ribena with the cream/milk
as well as possible, enough to fill approximately one-half of your glass.
Fill the rest with club soda and ice. Needs a cherry on top.

More when I think of it!

Date sent:  20-MAR-1996 23:14:53

After seeing all of the creative, deranged, and *potentially fatal*
drink recipes that everyone is posting, I thought of one to add to the
growing list. A friend of mine who happens to be in the Navy gave me
this recipe:

Green Death
~~~~~~~~~~~
To prepare this drink you need the little cup that comes with the
bottle of NyQuil.  Fill the cup half full of NyQuil (the green kind,
nat.) then fill the rest with EverClear (for the uninitiated,
EverClear is a clear 120 proof alcohol that can strip paint).  Shoot
the resulting mixture.
I have not tried this, I *do not* plan on trying this.  I mean, I may
be an all powerful universal deity, but I have some iota of common
sense.  Besides, the friend who gave me the recipe told that it can
literally knock you out.  So, be warned.  And be afraid.
Does anyone know if you can get Ribena in Louisiana?  I've never heard
of it, although it does sound like grenidine (which is an undiluted
drink mixture kinda like Kool-Aide that is imported from France.  It's
really popular with the more . . .  well, French of us down here.)
I know I am...I have about as much chance of getting SciFi at home as LC
does of getting a sun tan. (Not NYC, I get it here, I mean
*home*...where, like most of the SF Bay Area, we don't get it)
Ditto, SciFi may be, as someone (can't remember who) wrote, "USA's
step-child" but it is still run by Kay Koplovitz...who is the one who set
off this whole rotten chain of events in the first place.
It's exactly like someone said yesterday, I think, they are using this to
say "see we listen to our fans" which is a crock.
I'm still writing to USA. And I am not about to stop any time soon. I am
less than thrilled with this whole ridiculous situation, and I am afraid
I don't see much of a victory here.
my turn.  It seemes that I'm not as out going as the rest of you, so here we go.
1)  I've only seen the thrid season.  In other words I really want to get a hold
of frist and second season tapes.  Hint, hint!
2)  That exactly is this JADFE  thing.  I keep seeing all these reffrences made
to it.  Is it another list or something?  If so how does one get it.
3)  That are these wars?
4)  I hate to be a pest,  but one must go with one's strangths <g>.  My computer
does not go to web sights.  If its not on compuserve, I can't get to it.  If it
can't be e-mailed to me I can't get it.  You all talk about these different
places and I'm forced to sit here in a little ball and wimper.  Now to the
point.  There is all this FK fiction I keep hearing about for a while ago that I
dying to read.  Nice poeple keeptelling me to go to different web sights,but
Subject: Nick/Nat vs Tracy/Vachon
I haven't had the time to fully catch up on my digests after being out of
town for a week but I had to jump into this mess.
I think that Nick and Nat belong together.  Both have blossomed  by knowing
each other.  Sure they have rough times but who doesn't?  The fact that they
are still together shows that they are made for each other and that they want
to be together.
If that wasn't convincing look at the episodes that dealt with their
relationship.  Look at the steamy scenes between them in Night in Question.
 There is definite chemistry there.
They respect each other and challenge each other.
With Tracy and Vachon I see no chemistry.  Maybe a little friendship.  I see
curiousity about the other more than anything more solid. Tracy uses Vachon
for information.  She hasn't really gotten past the idea that he's a vampire
and looked to see what he was inside, what makes him tick.  Vachon hasn't
decided if he wants to find out what's inside Tracy's head.  I think Tracy
likes him because he goes against what we thought was her sheltered upper
middle class suburban lifestyle.  She was rebelling against her parents by
knowing him.
Subject: FKFIC-L Formatting suggestions
When I offered to be a beta reader, I also offered some story formatting
suggestions, not realizing (consciously anyway) that some of them had
been covered in the Forever Knight FAQ file. However, given the fact
that very few writers on FKFIC-L follow these rules, it's obvious that
they need to be posted.
The following text is from section II.B.2.d of the FORKNI-L/FKFIC-L
Frequently Asked Questions List file Version 4c, last revised:  October
28, 1994 by Stephen Fellows. The copyright notice only restricts posting
it to OTHER mailing lists, not this one. (And if Mr. Fellows objects,
PLEASE e-mail me: I've been trying to make contact with him for AGES.)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
     These are suggestions to help make your stories more readable.
     These are NOT rules.  While I'm putting this in the FKFIC-L
     section, most of these suggestions are applicable to any type of
     post to any electronic mailing list or newsgroup.  I'm including
     them here because the problems caused by poor formatting are
     compounded in a story type post, where you want the reader to
     closely follow what you're saying instead of merely scanning over
     it.  (Veterans of the SUPERGUY and VAMPYRES lists can attest to
     that.)
(1) Single space everything!!
     Double spaced text is extremely difficult to read on a computer
     screen, and can unnecessarily cost readers money for various
     reasons (charges for mail based on size, printer charges, etc.).  A
     blank line between paragraphs will tend to improve readability, but
     within paragraphs, please single space!
(2) Left justify everything!
     Like double spaced text, fully justified text is very difficult to
     read on a computer screen.  Also, the extra spaces make the overall
     document larger, which uses more disk space.
(3) Don't hyphenate.
     As with double spacing and full justification, hyphenated words are
     much more difficult to read on a computer screen than on paper.  If
     you have a long word that won't fit on the line, just let that line
     be short, and take the word to the next line.
     This also applies to e-mail addresses.  If an address is too long
     to fit on one line, it's somewhat common to split it at a "." but
     it's really preferable put the whole thing on a new line.
(4) Size of posts
     For FORKNI-L and FKFIC-L, the LISTSERV does not enforce a limit on
     the size of individual posts.  However, due to size limitations
     which may be imposed by network gateways, recipients' mailboxes,
     etc., it is generally suggested that individual posts to mailing
     lists be no more than 200-250 lines each.
(5) Line length
     Ideally, each line of text should be no more than 72 characters.
     It makes things much easier for those of us using IBM mainframes
     who read mail online rather than downloading or printing it, and
     the wide right margin permits quoting of posts without cutting off
     the ends of the lines or making lines longer than 80 characters.
     However, as long as you keep your lines under 80 characters, you
     shouldn't cause any serious problems.  Lines longer than 80
     characters can cause all sorts of problems with mailers in many
     operating systems.
     Be particularly careful if you type a story in a PC word processor
     and upload it for posting.  If not saved properly, each paragraph
     may be saved as a single line, causing the over 80 characters per
     line problem in a big way.  Also, if you use a word processor, be
     sure to set your left margin to 0 rather than the usual 10 spaces
     or whatever.
(6) the TAB key
     Avoid the TAB key!  Different systems treat tab characters
     differently, which can cause very strange, and undesirable, results
     on different computers.  If you want to indent or center something,
     use spaces instead of tabs.
     Many people avoid this problem entirely by not indenting anything.
(7) Quotes
     To indicate that a character is thinking something, rather than
     speaking, you might want to consider using something other than
     standard double-quotes (").  In print, this is usually done with
     italics, but that's not possible here.  Many people use single
     quotes ('), asterisks (*), angle brackets (<> or ><), or tildes
     (~).
(8) New speakers
     There is an extremely important, but often ignored, grammatical
     rule that whenever a different person starts speaking (or thinking)
     something, you start a new paragraph.
(9) Check spelling & grammar
     This one is pretty basic.  Poor spelling and/or grammar makes
     things very difficult to read and can alienate your audience. (i.e.
     they may tend to place less value on what you have to say if you
     don't care enough about your writing to be sure its spelling and
     grammar are correct.)
     The biggest problems here are homonyms like there/their, its/it's,
     your/you're, soul/sole, etc.  Also, the words "alot" and "alright"
     *do not exist!*  These are separate words which are commonly, but
     improperly, combined.
(10) Electronic writing conventions
     Since we're using only letters, numbers, and the more basic special
     characters to write things for the lists, certain conventions have
     evolved to help get around that.
     To emphasize a word that would normally be italicized, put
     *asterisks* around it.
     To indicate underlining, put an _underscore_ before and after the
     word/phrase.
     And, most importantly, don't yell unless you mean to.  TYPING IN
     ALL CAPS IS THE WRITTEN EQUIVALENT OF YELLING AND IS VERY ANNOYING,
     AS WELL AS DIFFICULT TO READ.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Please note that many of the above problems can be reduced if not
eliminated by using an ASCII TEXT EDITOR rather than a WORD PROCESSOR
program to compose your story. The are many very good ones out there
(such as _The Semware Editor_ which I am using to compose this message).
If you MUST use a word processor, it is often better to print it to an
ASCII file than export it (see suggestion 5, paragraph 2).
Just for the record, grenadine is a syrup made from pomegrante juice and
it's what makes a Shirley Temple more than just a pricey 7-Up.
So, along these lines, I would like to contribute the following
non-alcoholic drink for those Knighties (or anyone else) trying to stay on
the wagon:
A Nicholas Knight -- lemon-lime soda tainted with Ribena, extra maraschino
cherries.
But, personally, I'll take a Ribena Marquerita any day (hold the salt).
All this talk of Forever Zombies just inspired ANOTHER new drink.
FOREVER ZOMBIE (a variant of the Zombie recipe in _Bartender's Guide... by
Trader Vic_.  Don't expect to find it in stores.  It's my dad's book, and is
one year older than Nigel)
1 oz. Jamica rum
2 oz. Puerto Rican rum
1/2 oz. 151-proof Demerara rum
1 oz. orange curacao
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. Ribena
1 dash Pernod, Hersaint or Absinthe
Mix in mixing glass (duh) with large piece of ice; stir well and pour over
cracked ice in 14-oz. chimney glass (tall, thin, also known as a Zombie
glass).  Serve with straws.
The original has grenadine instead of Ribena.
Subject: Cousin's Bar: Official Ingrdient?
Okay, one more.  I'm just coming up with more ideas tonight...
Ribena is the Official Ingredient of Forever Knight, right?  What would be
the Official Ingredient of Cousin Drinks?  I nominate Pernod (or Absinthe).
It's old (while not as old as some, the recipe does go back a ways), it's
multi-faceted (many ingredients), it's well-aged, it's attractive (in
appearance), it changes subtly every time you find it, and it's got a bite
like you wouldn't believe.  During the Victorian age (this is Absinthe), it
was considered very high-class, not for the masses (still not cheap, I
know).  Also, very few people can tolerate it in it's true form; usually it
will be dilluted with water and a sugar cube (take THAT, TPTB!).
Note: Pernod is Absinthe minus the wormwood.
Anyone else?
Everyone ready?
That's right the frightening Blue Meanies from Yellow Submarine with Lacroix!
OK, new contest -- whose local station shows FK the latest?  I challenge
anyone to beat Philadelphia's new time slot.  It was on at 2:45am this
past Monday morning.  Even *I* didn't want to stay up that late.  Wait,
my clock says it's well after 2:45am now... Maybe my body is trying to
adjust to FK time!
Hmmm... when I missed "Star Command" last week, I located someone online
who had it on tape & arranged to trade tapes just so I can watch Nigel's 2
minutes.  And I watched "Legends of the Fall" twice before giving up and
calling someone to find out what scenes Nigel appears in.  I knew he was
in there somewhere because I saw his name in the credits!  But apparently
all his *good* stuff in that movie ended up on the cutting room floor.
Some other actors kept hogging all the scenes.  I think their names were
Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins.  <shrug>   (Hey, has anyone considered
asking for a Director's Cut of this movie, with Nigel's "lost scenes" put
back in?)
You're picturing it 'cause you're mad, dear.  Don't worry.  We're all mad here.
Although, I have to admit that after spending two hours finishing a very
non-Cousinly bit of fanfic, it's rather an amusing thought..
Oh, no.  You shouldn't have done that.  Now I have an idea of why Uncle's
hair is so short.  Think about it.  Maybe he used to have REALLY REALLY LONG
hair, and then was traumatized in a way that made him need to shave it off.
He got to a point where he could handle a fuzzy bleached cut, saw the Addams
Family Movie, and snapped.
Anyone?
I noticed that in the logs.  <frowns> Rest assured you will be receiving
I recommend you pay promptly.
Hi, Laurie!
Well, as you know, I completely and totally and vehemently disagree with
you.
While I see a tremendous chemistry between Nat and LaCroix, I think there's
an extremely strong tie between Nick and Nat, one that encompasses not only
love but friendship as well.  Of course, that relationship's more than a
little strained at this point -- considering the fact that Nick's been a
total bitch to Nat this season, this is a given -- but there's still that
feeling of intimacy between them.
By contrast, the tie between Nat and LaCroix seems to me to comprise more
of a contest, a battle of wills, a struggle for power.  I think that would
always be the case, even if Nick wasn't involved in the equation.  While
that sort of power struggle makes for interesting viewing, wonderful
fiction, it also creates terrible relationships to have to live through.
And an important point to consider is the fact of That Which Makes Good
Fiction Is Hell To Deal With In Real Life.
Between Nick and Nat, there's a comfort level (despite all obstacles) that
Nat and LaCroix could never achieve.  Note that I'm not saying that Nick
and Nat are necessarily perfect for each other: I'm of the opinion that Nat
would outgrow Nick's rather limited outlook in short order, whereas LaCroix
and Nat would endlessly challenge each other.  But I do believe that Nat
and Nick have a far greater chance of achieving *happiness* for a longer
time than any other pairing.  Nat and LaCroix?  Too much conflict.  Nick
and Janette?  Too many differences in perspective... although recent events
(no spoilers here) might have changed that somewhat.
The only pairing I see as having a greater potential for achieving
long-term happiness is... Natalie and Janette.  (You can take that in a
platonic sense, or any other way you choose, depending on personal
preference; the comparison remains intact.)  I actually think that those
two have more in common than any other set-of-two, and would probably do
best together over the long term.
But there's no splinter fraction for that... and if there ever is, I do NOT
want to go on record as being the person to suggest it, thank you very
much.
Anyway, there's my two cents.  That and a buck fifty will get you on the
subway.
Subject: USA/SCIFI: Why not both???
Didn't Quantum Leap get stripped on both USA and SciFi?
Why can't they do the same thing with Forever Knight?
Two outlets are better than one, and it's not like it would COST them
anything.
And if 'losing face' is USA's concern, well, they could quietly slip FK
back into their lineup somewhere, say, around September... while leaving
the airing schedule on SciFi intact.
Just something else to consider while we're sucking up, er, I mean writing
letters.
Yeah, I absolutely agree with the fact that USA/SciFi are playing games
with us.  But the thing is, we have no choice but to play their game...
because there's still that slim chance that somewhere up the road, we might
actually WIN.
Keep the faith...
