So what happens if you don't have a faction? (primarily cause you simply can't
decide?... OK OK So I'm waffling! :->)

You can be a mercenary - for hire, or if indepedents are allowed, an
independent. BUt for a newbie, I'd suggest finding a faction. The Ratpackers
sometimes have people play with us not because Screed is their favorite
character, but because they think we are fun.

When the war is more certain, don't worry, you'll probably find a faction!

(P) LOL! You took the words right out of my mouth! I too
thought the orginal post had to do with the upcoming RL war. (Oh, and Yahoo
Mail is having a bug in their system that doesn't allow for making paragraphs
via the Enter key, so bare with me. I'm using (P) to designate a break in
thought!) I was a Faction Leader during the last war for the Cousins of the
Knight. Well, more of a part-time Faction Leader in Absentia. It started out
fine but then then I had computer trouble and family had to go and I got dragged
along.. Needless to say it got real hairy real fast. And yeah, I was one of
the victims of the 'hurt feelings' category. Nothing major and nothing I care to
get into. (P) What everyone is saying is true: you need a LOT of free time
to participate. A BIG mailbox. FAST typing skills. And co-mates willing to
take on tasks not planned. (P) Would I do it again? No. Despite everything,
it was fun, but for the forseeable future I just don't have the time/energy.
Gracious, I haven't even found the time to read all the posts in the War I was
in! Would I suggest someone with the time do it? Heck yes! Like I said, it
WAS fun for the most part. Newbies? I heartily concur that getting into an
established faction is best. Preferably a big faction where smaller tasks are
divied out, but which DO allow you to go off on a side plot if you want and it
is feasible for the whole. Some of those side plots get pretty whacked and
end up being the best part of the two weeks. (P)

I am that way too, I consider myself a "Die-Hard with Knightie
tendencies" (ie I love everyone, but I am partial to Nick)
Although, because I RL I haven't done any wars for several years, I
forget, is there a Die Hard faction in the wars. (last time I was a
Knightie)

Ok, to start....

I work in the radiology dept of a hospital scheduling outpatient
exams and this guy called to schedule an appt and his name was....
Nicholas Knight!!!!!!! I had to put him on hold while I got the huge
grin off my face and could talk normally.

The people in the back office were listening to the radio and the
announcer/DJ's voice sounded just like LC. (I wish I knew what
station it was!)

I went to Build-A-Bear "just to look" and wound up buying a blondish
bear, putting it in jeans and a white turtleneck and naming it
Nicholas B. Knight. Plus I chose the growl as his sound when you
squeeze his hand. (That's for when he gets mad <g>)

I think I really need to watch some FK, I'm becoming delirious!

If there is a war, will it be on a separate list for
those that want to participate?

I do not want hundreds of emails cluttering up my
inbox.

Unless I remember wrong, when you sign up for the list, you have the option
of turning the War header off so that you don't receive any of the War mails.
Be warned, however... the list gets awfully quiet during those two weeks of
war.... LOL

The FKwar posts are sent to the fkfic-l list with a special heading
of WAR: which makes it possible for those people subscribed to
fkfic to "turn off" the war setting and avoid getting all those posts.

However, VERY few non-war posts are made to fkfic during the fkwar -
Since most of the fic writers are busy playing in the war game.

Also for those playing, most factions have their own private lists
for war planning/coordination which everyone playing along with them
will also be subbed to. Part of the hundreds of daily posts mentioned
earlier come thru your factions own list and are not seen by
non-players.

Really, you should play with one of the established factions. The fkwar game
is just not for newbie's to try playing on your own. 1) You won't have any
fun going it alone and 2) you really only learn how to play when you play
along with others who've done it before. Many factions allow non-members
to play along with them. They will be actively recruiting before it
starts.

While the rules allow you to be subbed to the faction's war list of
only one faction you CAN and often WILL work with members of
other factions on posts.

So don't feel like it must be a permanent choice, it's just for the
two week "duration" of the fkwar. If nothing else just go -- eeny, meeny,
miney, moe and choose.
