I only joined the list in September of 1993 - and already there was one
issue of the fanzine Forever Net: The Best of the FKFic-L Lists in print.

In fact, fiction had originally been posted on Forkni-L, but it took up so
much room so quickly that a second fiction list was instituted. This was
back when Jay-el ran the list, about 4 listowners ago. I believe the list
was first created in December of 1992.

About 95% of my FKFiction is available at my site, listed below. Hopefully
uncorrupted.

If my archives are correct, the deadline for submission for the first
edition of 'Forever Net' was July 12, 1993 (from a copy of a message
from the unforgettable Valerie Meachum). I've got my copy
somewhere.... It's probably in one of those boxes (along with my
copies of 'The Raven' newsletter) that I haven't unpacked since I
moved to Texas.

I was a member of FORKNI-L within a couple of months after it was
started but I was on and off quite a bit in that first year. I think I
have complete archives of FORKNI-L and FKFIC-L from Aug. 1994 to present.

Susan, I think I have all of your stories that were posted on FKFIC-L
to present, including that very first poem 'Unholy Trinity', so if you
are missing anything just let me know.

I belive you are correct - FORKNI-L was created in Dec. 1992 and
FKFIC-L was created a few months later. My archives start in June 1993
so I'm not sure exactly when.

Then you fall into the items of (1) unknown provenance (like the salvaged
gold) and (2) national antiquities commissions -- at least in the last
40-50 years. Anything that would have been melted down in a subsequent
reign, buried underground, buried in a cave, kept in a vault, interred,
lost at sea, buried at sea, transported to another nation and buried/kept
in a cave/buried at sea... all of that is claimed by the nation on whose
ground (or in whose waters) the artifact is found, by the nation on whose
ground the artifact was most likely created, and by the nation whose
predecessor conquering nation "owned" that ground at the btime the artifact
was created.

No, if LC owns precious metal assets, they're deposited in vaults in London
and Switzerland, with the appropriate accounts attached to them. He
probably has other assets in numbered Swiss accounts, and in accounts held
under corporate names, and in long-term custodial accounts where he
receives interest off the principal... Probably not too unlike Nick, except
that LC doesn't give it away to charity.

BTW, for some reason or another I got the impression that the purpose of
LC's "plantations" was to obtain live food for the vamp community...

We all agree Lacroix is a 'one bag man'...can pack and disappear off the
earth in 5 mins flat...but I still think he would have collected hoardings,
even on a small scale, stashed about the planet for emergencies. He seems to
enjoy the comforts mortals allow him but for that you need money, and
usually you have to have money to make money. I think he often rails Nick
like any good parent.."Do as I say, not as I do!" But unlike Nick, his
emotional attachment is practically zero...mm or rather his ability to cast
his attachment off is very high, should he have any for an item at all.
He may have an interest for items from the past, including his own, and he
may even hide that interest beneath the notion that it is just an
investment. Didn't he keep Divias locket? I could be wrong there, she may
have left it for him...been a while since I watched ashes to ashes. Its not
a lot to carry around granted, but it still opens a window to how he thinks
beneath what he allows others, especially Nick, to see.

It would be logical that after a few centuries of being a vampire, one would
recognize the market for antique items. Any good vampire would know the
value of a well kept Spanish helmet after a few hundred years.
Even now I think it would be a good way to cash in for Lacroix.
Verifiers can only investigate so much, they don't, and cant, know
everything, and it isn't uncommon for items to be lost then found again in
someone's family estate or attic...like you mentioned. Yes some items are
requested returned back to governments, but even they will often purchase
them...just not at market value.
Age, the craftsman, etc, are usually what they are after in an item to make
sure it is authentic and not a fake, rather than making sure the history of
the item is authentic. Though certain proof would have to come to light if
one was to say that a certain item belonged to a historic figure etc...and
if the proof was inconclusive...they would advertise it as...'rumored to
be...a possibility it could have belonged to....' etcetc.
And if it is obviously of value to an foreign state then they will often
have first dibs before it goes to auction. It wasn't that long ago (in the
last 50-100 years) when expeditions...just took the items they found on
behalf of their sponsor or museum.
So valuable items of interest could very well end up on a Sotheby's block.
And as for other means....where there is money and an interest, there is
always a way.

Greetings all,
I believe that LC has a great respect for history and the old--remember his
shock when he discovered that Divia killed the old one who brought her over.
He commented that the old one could have taught them a great deal.

Oh, my! Is it possible to post those archives on a website somewhere, so they're
available for general browsing? I joined FORKNI-L in 1995, and have fond
memories of the great discussions we used to have there. It would great to
revisit them.

With all the talk of finding the first fanfic story onlist -- i have a
question. i have a FK story that i wrote mid third season. i remember
getting some feedback from it, but i can't find it archived anywhere and i'm
not sure where i would have posted it in order to get feedback. So, at any
rate, i was going to send it to FKFIC-L for the heck of it. i was just
wondering if any of the "old" folks remember seeing it? It was entitled:
"The Vampire Inside" and dealt with a gang of kids that believed they were
vampires.

If he's going to have a life, continue being a lawer or whatever

Or is he going to hang around the house forever?

Richard was an oragn donor
Maybe rich still can be
If richard's "dead" maybe he dosen't need
all his organs anymore???

I don't know. They kind of brought Richard across as a spur of the moment
thing, it wasn't anything that *any* of them had been thinking about for a
long time, so they didn't have much time to hash out the details. I think
they just did it, without thinking. But yeah, if he were to have the same
life then they would have had to pretend he was alive. Of course, that was
kind of difficult, since he'd only show life signs every ten minutes on the
hospital equipment, and that might have been difficult to explain. More
likely Nick meant that Richard could have gone on with his work like he
wanted, just in another place and with a new identity. Usual vampire thing,
i guess.

I've always wondered about that. In 'A More Permanent Hell' and 'Ashes
to Ashes', the bust falls and, well, busts (sorry, couldn't help it!).
The head breaks off. So how does he have it in the present day, still in
one piece?
Just wondering.

I always assumed LaCroix had another bust made and that's the one he's been
carrying around through the years. Or it could be a modern recreation he had
done fairly recently.

Or he retrieved the pieces and glued it together later.

But I figure he had duplicates made, and that he
actually has a storeroom full of them. Can't you see him
presenting his host with a marble bust when he comes
visiting? <g>
