This is beginning to drive me crazy!
Every now and then while surfing the Net, I run into a good story, do a SAVE
AS text doc, later click on the document---only to discover that my computer
has only saved the first line header of the site!
AARRRRGH!
So far, the only Forever Knight site that does this to me is JADFE, yet
others seem to have no problem with it. And neither did I when it was on
its old addy.
If you have a Windows 95 computer and are of legal age, could someone try to
download a story from http://www.lady-lacroix.com/jadfe and let me know if
you're successful? I'm thinking that maybe some newer websites are using
different code that Win95 doesn't recognize as text.

Help me, Oh Fen/Fans of FK! I am missing some good Jedi Apprentice Star
Wars fic as well as FK stuff here!

Yes, that was the ep where Schanke meets both Janette and Alma.
If you remember, Nick gives himself away by saying "Alma" in the confessional
when Schanke can't think of her name.

Subject: Mission GK 2000 Reminder!

Mission GK 2000 is not that far down the road!

Anyone who wants to "sit with the group" when we go see the Saturday,
November 11, 2000, 7 p.m. performance of THE HOBBIT with FK's own Greg
"Screed" Kramer as Gollum needs to e-mail me OFF-LIST as soon as possible!
The theater is reserved seating, and is NOT set up to let us call in
individually and still assure seating next to each other. Yes, I've been in
touch with the box officed and asked. Therefore, I'm hoping to order the
tickets all at once. I'm planning on ordering the tickets early next week.
(Speaking of which, if Will sees this - e-mail me, I'm waiting to hear back
from you<g>)

Remember, if you still aren't sure you can attend and won't know for a while
yet, you are more than welcome to purchase your own tickets (providing, of
course, the theater doesn't sell out). We will pre-arrange a meeting place at
the theater so we can go together to whatever post-play place for an
aftershow snack or drink. Last time we did this, Greg DID go with us - but
there's NO promises he will this time. He is invited, however, and knows all
about this (a lil' ratsie told 'im!)

There'll also probably be a pre-play room party starting sometime
mid-afternoon with pizza or other snacks, then we'll go to the theater as a
group. If we can round up a VCR, we'll watch a few special Greg Kramer
videos.

Many of you have asked about attending during LCA3. The play opens October
21. Of course you can see it then! I'm sure he'd love to realize fans are out
there cheering for him when he takes his bows. I've let him know some fans
will be in town then for the auction.

For more information on THE HOBBIT go to:

http://www.ypt.ca

I'll probably send out one more reminder before ordering the tickets, but I'm
starting rehearsals myself for a local community players production Monday
and could forget!

Can you give me more detail about what it is. (the CN) tower.

Jeannie
----------------------------------------------------------------------
2 Standing high above the city skyline, the CN Tower is not just the tallest
building in Toronto. In fact, at slightly over 533 metres, the CN Tower is
more than 13 metres higher than Moscow's Ostankino Tower, 100 metres higher
than New York's Empire State Building and over 230 metres higher than the
Eiffel Tower in Paris. This makes the CN Tower the tallest freestanding
tower in the world.

3 The tower is located near Toronto's waterfront on the northern shores of
Lake Ontario. Since opening it has become one of the city's most popular
tourist attractions. From the indoor "Space Deck" 147 storeys above the
ground, tower visitors can enjoy a view of up to 160 kilometres on a clear
day. For a more breathtaking look at Toronto, the CN Tower also has an
outdoor observation deck featuring the world's highest glass floor. Visitors
can literally walk on air 342 metres above the ground! The world's highest
and largest revolving restaurant can also be found at the CN Tower.

4 The tower was built over a period of 40 months beginning on February 6,
1973. It was designed to serve as a communications tower used to transmit
television, radio and microwave signals across the country. It cost $57
million to build and was officially opened to the public on June 26, 1976.

5 Before the CN Tower came along, no one had ever built a structure rising
so high above the ground. Many experts from around the world were asked to
help in planning the design. As a result, a variety of new ideas went into
making the tower both the tallest and the safest in the world.

6 For example, the tower was built on a unique Y-shaped foundation dug
nearly 15 metres into the ground. This base is concrete over six metres
thick, and contains over 500 tons of steel and cable. To protect the tower
from fierce winds blowing against its upper half, it was designed to resist
winds as strong as 418 kilometres an hour. Even the windows, which are
armour-plated, were carefully designed to withstand the constant wind
pressure.

7 Four glass elevators provide riders with a birds-eye view as they climb up
the outside of the tower to Skypod. This giant donut-shaped structure is
nearly seven storeys high and sits over 322 metres above the city near the
top of the tower.

8 While nearly 1.7 million visitors are drawn to the tower each year, it has
also attracted a number of stunt people. In 1975, a member of the
construction crew was the first person to parachute off the tower. In 1986,
a man climbed the outside glass windows of the tower twice in one day.
Others have run, pogo-sticked, and rode motorcycles up the 2,570 steps to
the top.

I haven't shared any of these in a long time, but...

I read in an article how the #1 soft drink in Peru is
'Inca Kola.' Apparently it's bubble-gum flavored :D
The article quoted one Quechua man as saying he drank it because
'it is named for our ancestors, the great Inca warriors.'
Now *that* sounds like our Inca.

And in Incarnate overload, today I discovered the 'Inca' line of
handbags while drooling over non-sensible shoes at bluefly.com.
I checked, and the bags contain no actual Incas. <g> I also found
out the designer is a woman. (Boy, if it'd been a Peruvian named 'Amaru,'
there would've been seizures!) She was inspired by travel in Peru and
incorporates the colors as well as the weaving, beading
and knotting techniques of Incan tradition into the line.
Didn't get new shoes, but I ordered an Inca bag!

I have Win95...I went to the site. It's nothing really new--the titles are
in a separate frame from the text--likely to make things harder for anyone
who would illegally harvest the stories for a pay site.

To get around it, you could either open a text application, select all the
text, copy it, and paste it into your text editor; or you can make sure your
curser is on the text when you save the file, and then check the document
before you move on.

Subject: Be My Valentine - Azure scene pt 1

Here's the restaurant scene. (I'm going to try and keep it in the same
format, outside of the dialog centering, so that it hopefully won't mess up
with anyone's email program. I'll also capitalize underlined stuff for the
same reason.) Yes, the script has his name spelled Lacroix, and yes, the use
of Nat instead of Natalie in the lines below are in the script.

First off the restaurant had pillows to sit on instead of chairs. LC is
seated on one of these at a low mosiac table, but his face is hidden by the
plants, artifacts, etc.

As Nat and the Maitre d' approach - we get a clearer view of the man, seated
with is back to us. Lacroix.

Nat slows her pace, her smile fading... but the Maitre d' ushers her forward,
and around to face Lacroix. The Maitre d' pulls out a chair for her, but she
hesitates. Lacroix grins up at her - and in the next instant his withering,
meaningful look to the Maitre d' sends the man hurrying away, presumably
never to return, at least not tonight.

LACROIX
(getting up)
I am honored that you accepted my invitation, Ms. Lambert... "Natalie" if I
may.

Natalie stays put... this man has a VERY disturbing air about him. But her
curiosity keeps her urge to get the hell out of here in check for now.

NATALIE
Excuse me, but... I don't know who you are.

LACROIX
Oh, but you DO. You must. Not to presume, of course, but... I am quite
certain that Nicholas has spoken of me at some point or other.

The other shoe drops... that foice, the mannerisms, the mention of
"Nicholas". He sees her look of recognition, and her sudden anxiety. He
grins, extends his hand.

LACROIX (con'td)
Lucien Lacroix.

On something like automatic, Nat extends her hand. He takes it, gently.

NATALIE
Well... Yes, of course... I.... It's...

LACROIX
(gently)
A pleasure. And all mine, I assure you. Please, won't you sit down.

Okay, THIS would be a good time to run - but instead, Nat sits, eyes forward
at all times.

LACROIX (con'td)
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I know how much Nicholas cares for
you... I felt it was time that we meet.
(off her silent stare)
Don't you agree?

NATALIE
What? Oh. Oh, yes. It's just that... I thought you'd be much older.
(catches herself)
I mean... LOOK a lot older.

LACROIX
And I had heard that you were pretty... but not that you were exquisite.

Nat is warming to the situation - the fascination of it. She nods slightly at
the compliment.

Then she glances around.

NATALIE
Will we be... dining alone?

LACROIX
Yes - I hope you don't mind. I bought out the entire restaurant this evening
in your honor. It seemed like an appropriate way to get to know one another.

NATALIE
You flatter me.

Lacroix reacts - the echo of fleur's words. The brief silence unsettles Nat.

LACROIX
(beat)
Perhaps... we may talk a little about love.

His eyes never leave hers. ON NAT'S look to him go to: <snipped Nick at loft
scene (I'm not doing the whole script)>

(Back at the restaurant.... I'll continue with the scene)

Lacroix pops the cork on a bottle of vintage Cristal.. pours a glass for
Natalie.

LACROIX
I've always enjoyed the ceremony of opening champagne... despite the fact
that I can't drink it. The force of the pressure release, the delicate
spray... the vapors.

Natalie is beginning to relax, as the sensual lighting, voluminous cushions,
and Lacroix's velvet voice, have their effect. Throught the following, we get
the sense that on some deeper level, Lacroix is applying some kind of whammy
to which Nat is oblivious.

NATALIE
Yes.. it's wonderful. That IS why people drink Champagne, after all. To
celebrate.

LACROIX
Wddings and such. ...Or at other times, merely to... induldge.

He holds her gaze - she's not as "sharp" as before. Something's happening...
Then he pours her a glass.

(More continues in the next post, where I get to where he drugs her)

I didn't want the email to get too long so I broke it off. It continues here.

LACROIX
On the topic of weddings... It's possible you'll be planning one of your own
in the near future, is it not?

NATALIE
(reaching for her glass)
That's... not something I've thought about, really.

LACROIX
Oh?

She takes as sip. Hmm, this is good stuff. She sips again. Lacroix watches,
is there something in the champagne perhaps? Then:

LACROIX
You do love Nicholas, do you not?

NATALIE
Yes.. But it's too soon to...

LACROIX
(cuts her off)
True love is like morphine -- one taste and you're enslaved. Unless, there
are... extraordinary circumstances... that stand in your way.

NATALIE
(another sip)
Obviously, I know what Nick is.. that's how we met. But I don't see it as a
problem... if we take it one day at a time...

Lacroix nods, refills her glass. She sips some more during:

LACROIX
A very good attitude... but an insurmountable problem. There is nothing m ore
captivating than meeting one's opposite. You fuse like two sides of one coin.
This is not a luxury, however, that Nicholas.. or I.. can afford. We may mix
minds with mortals, but anything beyond that can be quite... hazardous to
your health.

NATALIE
(a little buzzed)
Well... like they say. I knew the risks when I signed on.

Lacroix pours himself a glass, leans over to top Nat off, then sets the
bottle down, picks up his glass.

LACROIX
A toast. To new friends, aged champagne, and passions of the heart...

Lacroix clinks Natalie's glass with the bottle, and watches her drink.

<Nick in flight snipped by me>

Hypnotic music. Natalie more and more under Lacroix's mysterious spell.

LACROIX
The food here is said to be sublime.

NATALIE
It must be frustrating for you. I mean, your intolerance for food.

LACROIX
That particular frustration is nothing more than an irritant... compared to
some others I have known.
(off her puzzled look)
If Nick has not already told you, permit me to say... that radiance such as
yours, is more satisfying than any food could possibly be. I am quite
content with that.

NATALIE
But eating is one of the pleasures that... well, it makes me sad that Nick
can't enjoy it.

LACROIX
There are many mortal pleasures we can't experience.

He's laying it on, whatever "it" is, and we see her slowly succumbing.

NATALIE
I... suppose that's one thing that motivates the experiments Nick and I are
doing... to reverse the condition.

LACROIX
Ahh, but do be careful. Have you considered the possibility that Nick's co
called.. "condition".. is the very quality that you adore?

I tried to "save as" and only got "lady lacroix.com" as well. However, if you
select the text (Ctrl + A), copy it (Ctrl + C) and then paste it into a text
editor/word processor (Ctrl + V) you'll get the story as it appears on the page.

I don't know why this is happening, unless there's some coding on the page that
prevents you from doing a regular "save as text."

I'm going to try and type out the whole scene.

Lacroix reaches across, gently brushes her hair from her face, (just as Nick
did). she responds, closing her eyes, enjoys the sensation of his caress. For
just an instant, we see a flicker in her eyes, a split-second of rational
thought; what the hell am I DOING?, and then it's gone, and her eyes close
again.

NATALIE
You are... fascinating creatures... that's for sure.

without interrupting his caress, Lacroix rises, and moves to a spot just
behind her... stares down at her neck.

<I snipped a line about Nick homing in on the place>

Natalie is oblivious to Lacroix, who is sprouting fangs, hovering over her
neck. The sounds of the music drift into the room. Natalie leans back against
him, her eyes closed.

LACROIX
Is it not uncommon, the attraction you feel... A force of nature as immutable
as the stars... others have felt it before.
(then, coaxing info out)
Did it.. surprise you.. when Nick expressed his love for you?

NATALIE
(drifting off)
Yes... Surprised.
(smiles)
Scared.

LACROIX
And did he tell you that he wished to spend all his days with you? That you
moved him as no human being ever before?

NATALIE
(drowsy sensuality)
Yes... he said beautiful things...

Lacroix grins, intense, totally focussed on her neck, now. He's heard exactly
what he'd hoped to hear.

LACROIX
Ah. How wonderful. I'm... so happy for you.

Lacroix hovers over Natalie's arched throat, enjoying the anticipation...
when suddenly

(continued to next page of script)

GLASS CRASHES from overhead. Lacroix looks up... just in time to see

A BLUR descending in a halo of shattered glass.

NEW ANGLE - as Nick grabs Lacroix and LAUNCHES HIM across the room.

NICK
What feeble excuse do you have for backing down on our agreement?

Natalie has hardly noticed, her eyes remain closed, her head lolled back, a
grin on her lips.

LACROIX STANDS and seems to GLIDE ACROSS THE FLOOR toward Nick - his feet not
moving.

LACROIX
Au contraire.. I'm here to claim what is mine.

NICK
You gave your word, Lacroix, never to invade my life with your mindless
killing..

LACROIX
Your memory is as weak as the object of your kive,

Wham! Lacroix lashes out with the back of his hand, sending Nick crashing to
the floor. About as close to unconscious as a vampire gets.

In one fluid motion, Lacroix extracts one of the wooden spears from its
stand. Grins as he toys with it, his intent clear.

LACROIX
I will claim the retribution you promised to me.

He cracks the spear over his knee - creating two rather nasty-looking STAKES.
Tosses one away, holds up the other.

LACROIX
That I will deprive you of the mortal you love.
(glares down at Nick)
Or deprive her of you... In either case, your promise will be fulfilled.

Nick falters as he tries to pull himself to his feet.

Natalie is regaining a portion of her senses, but is still far from
clear-headed. She opens her eyes, puts her hand on the table to steady
herself, knocks over a glass... doesn't seem to notice.

Lacroix crosses to the groggy Natalie and picks her up. She's helpless in his
arms. Lacroix smiles at Nick.

LACROIX
I shall enjoy watching it take hold of you: the torture I have felt every
moment since I left your sister behind.

Lacroix bares his fangs. Nick is helpless... all he can do is watch... But:

NICK
And what makes you think I'm in love?

Lacroix pauses. And, as groggy as Natalie is... she turns at this news, too.

LACROIX
I have seen it with my own eyes.

NICK
Have you? What? A kiss, an embrace?
(beat)
If you think the flirtation I've encouraged with Natalie is a sign of true
love.. Well, I've certainly miscalculated the depth of your passion for Fleur.

LACROIX
Why should I believe you..?

NICK
Because it makes SENSE. It's about survival, Lacroix...
(beat)
She knows what I am. She's working to lift this curse from me. If she has an
infatuation with me... is it not in my best interest to humor her?

NATALIE
(still weakened, but aware enough to be confused by his words)
Nick...?

LACROIX
Hypocrisy from you is more sickening than I expected..

NICK
Or is it my logic that disturbs you?
(beat)
I do not love this woman.

He says that, his eyes cold on Natalie. She looks to him; he CAN'T be saying
this...

LACROIX
Prove it to me...

NICK
How?

Lacroix offers Nick Natalie's throat.

LACROIX
Bring her over.

NICK
And if I refuse?

LACROIX
Then I'll do as I please...

Nick slowly crosses...

NATALIE
Nick...?

He ignores her, looking Lacroix in the eye.

NICK
At least she is someone who will improve our kind's reputation.

He pulls Natalie's hair away from her neck and bares his fangs. Natalie tries
to resist, but she's not fully "herself" yet. Tears well up in her eyes.

NATALIE
Nick, don't. NICK.

NICk fixes her with that pre-bite look... she stops struggling... her head
lolls... He slowly lowers his mouth.... inches from her tender skin... his
teeth grazing the surface... so very close...

ON LACROIX ... his sceptical expression....

CLOSE ON Nick's fangs... touching her skin... pressing down... drawing the
skin taught... any more pressure and the skin will burst...

NICK straightens slightly, eyes glowing, a grin of bloodlust, consumed,
primed...

ON LACROIX... the sudden realization; Nick's going for it.

AND NICK rears back to bite, BEGINS HIS FINAL APPROACH' and:

LACROIX
STOP.

Nick tries to pull up, as it were, almost doesn't make it. His fangs stop a
fraction of a centimetre above Nat's neck. He struggles against the urge to
continue. From all appearances, he is consumed by his bloodlust... desperate
to take her. He shoots Lacroix a wild look. A pause. And he slowly withdraws.

NICK
Why?

LACROIX
I know you too well. You revere all that is mortal - all that is human. If
you truly loved her, you could never take that away from her. You would
rather have her die.

Nick lets Natalie slip down to the chair/pillows on the floor. His breathing
is just now returning to normal.

LACROIX
I'll not trade Fleur for that.
(bitter)
Your heart is still untouched.. it has never quickened with such passion,
never ached with such sorrow..

Lacroix starts away slowly... then turns back.

LACROIX
But someday, it will, Nicholas. Someday... it .... will.

And he LAUNCHES toward the ceiling. Gone.

ON NICK - his look to Natalie, slouched in the chair. He looks up o.s.,
making sure Lacroix is gone, then he turns back to Nat, moves to her, sits
beside her. He eyes flicker open, try to focus on him. He takes her in his
arms, cradles her, holds her close. And we:

Subject: Problem solved! Here's how. (was Re: [FORKNI-L] Problems in fic land

I know this isn't *directly* an FK topic, but there are a lot of us fic
hungry out there who are desperate for their 'Fix'. (hehehe)

I want to thank all you who responded so quickly to my problem, and to
say---thank you!!!!
The problem is solved! This is what I learned (for the info of those who
wrote back with the same problems.)

The problem *may* stem from having the early version of IE5. Going to
Microsoft and downloading IE5.5 *may* help. (I personally have not tried
this yet.)
You can right clik on the text and use the View As window to save. (I keep
forgeting that other button!) But it saves the html code as well as the
text. Very messy.
Or you can save the old fashioned way as Nancy Kaminski pointed out: (God
BLESS you, Nancy! You are a SAINT!)

>I tried to "save as" and only got "lady lacroix.com" as well. However, if you
>select the text (Ctrl + A), copy it (Ctrl + C) and then paste it into a text
>editor/word processor (Ctrl + V) you'll get the story as it appears on the page.

For some machivellian reason this worked! Even though using the supposedly
same browser keys did not. (go figger...) Maybe LaCroix (Mr. Control) has
something to do with this? In league with the computer PTB?

Huh. And mom says that being on the Internet is an evil waste of time.
Ancient Rome, CN Tower, Medieval dress. This place is a fountain of info!

Subject: BMV - tag and comments

Here are a couple lines of dialog I don't remember from the tag.

Natalie comes in, ready to go home, carrying a bunch of files. She stops at
Nick's desk, looking kind of embarassed.

NATALIE
Let me just say.. I'm sorry - I'm sorry - I'm sorry. Because I'm sure I made
a fool of myself and you too.

NICK
No, no, no..

(all but one bunch of Nick's lines we know)

NATALIE
Well, I mean, I don't remember a thing between walking into a restaurant, and
you taking me home in the cab last night. I usually hold my wine better than
that..

NICK
We just had a great evening, that's all. It's about time, don't you think?

It's obvious that Nick has made sure Natalie remembers nothing of their brief
romance.

NATALIE
Yeah... I guess it's good to let your hair down once in awhile. I mean, I've
been so burned working... I'm having trouble remembering anything at all. The
whole day is... a blur, or something. But uh... Glad the case is locked.

Nick nods, she regards him a moment, something WAY in the back of her mind, a
puzzle, that fades, and:

NATALIE (cont'd)
Well... gotta go.

She moves off, Nick watches her go... then his phone rings. He sighs, picks
up.

NICK
(into phone)
Knight. ...Oh, yes, Evelyn. I've been meaning to call you, uh... I'm sorry
but I have to cancel the order. ...Yes, it's uh... well, things didn't quite
work out the way I'd hoped. ...Yes, it IS too bad. It was beautiful
jewelry. I'm sorry, too. Bye-bye.

He hangs up... looks off... and on his look we go to:

LC's monologue (which had a note to be shot with future Radio Station
scenes).

Lacroix at the microphone. Dark, brooding. He holds the orchid, turns it over
in his hands.

LACROIX
...Love... exists. Rages within. The slient scream of endless pain. Hellish
alchemy, indeed. Without equal. Not death. Not Hell itself. But a prcious
flower... long withered and gone.

He stares of, his hand curls around the orchid, closes, slowly crushing it.

LACROIX (cont'd)
And always... always with me.

He looks down at his hand... opens it slowly... the crushed orchid slides
from his hand to the table and we:

FADE OUT

Nick had ordered Nat a diamond bracelet and matching choker.

There is a place in the script where Nat leans back in her chair and
'Nickdreams' (yes, they called it Nickdreams.)

Any typos are in the script.

Hi Everybody:

As I mentioned to Kyer earlier, I was able to get onto Jadfe alright. After
some thought, I remembered that I have Internet Explorer 5.5. (This update
can be downloaded from Microsoft's website.)

I hope that helps everyone!

Thanks

David
