Regarding Vachon living in a deconsecrated church and holy objects--

KnghtWtch@a....... writes:
< So I think since Vachon thinks the church is deconsecrated, then all the
statues and artifacts in the church are also deconsecrated.>

And Laudon1965@a....... writes:
<I would think that part of the process of deconsecration is the removal of
*all* saced objects, which I believ statues of saints are considered.<snip>
we saw some of those nifty floor candalabrum at Vachon's church, I don't
recall every seeing any statuary.>

While some things inside and out side of a Catholic Church may be conscrated
--and I don't know the difference between conscrated and blessed-- some
statues and other items --rosaries, bibles, prayer books, icons-- can be
blessed by a priest, it may be that a person {priest, religious Brother,
Nun, or Sister}, place {Church, graveyard}, or thing may be CONSCRATED FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE-- i.e. are not Catholics to be buried in conscrated
ground? I don't know though if a blessing can be removed from something.

As a devoted VaqDreaming Vaquera and INCArnate with Urchin Tendencies, I
PERSONALLY think that the cross would have minimal or no harmful effects on
Vachon, The Inca, and Urs, as, I believe that they are GOOD Vampires because
they were #1 brought across by GOOD Vampires and #2, unlike some vampires,
they were brought across for GOOD reasons-- Javier Vachon and his vampire
brother were brought across to "stop the senseless killing" and to use their
vamp abilities for good-- LC and his 'kids" sorta contributed to 'senseless
killing', at least for a while, anyway. And even as a vampire, Urs was
gentle and kind and did NOT approve of 'Monica' killing men who used and/or
abused women. Even LC called Urs an "innocent goddess"! ***One kind of GOOD
vampire -- a Kresnik (a Dalmatin/maybe Serbian type word) is a GOOD vamp, a
variation on the Italian term Stregoni Benefici meaning "beneficial vampire"
and "indicates a belief that there were certain undead who were on the side
of goodness." ["The Vampire Encyclopedia" by Matthew Bunson, copyright 1993]
One of the things Kresniks do --like Vachon, The Inca, even Urs tried {I
think}, and also Nick does a LOT -- is they protect the innocent. Also, the
word Kresnik is from the word 'cross'-- so IMHVaqO-- for a GOOD vamp maybe
the cross and possibly other holy objects would have minor or no harmful
effects-- and when I think about it-- IF a vamp IS a GOOD vampire, why WOULD
one --or at least a good or innocent person-- need a cross to defend oneself
from him or her?! {{{And some of us wound want NOTHING to keep Javier Vachon
away from us, anyway!!! BvaqG}}}

Also, whereas some vamps-to-be may need to turn away from 'The Light" as
Nick did, it does not seem that when Angel brought Javier and The Inca
across that this was something they had to do-- Vachon may still have
retained some of his religious faith and felt comfortable with it to some
extent. Or, maybe Vachon has regained some of the faith he was raised in. As
an example of this, I recall seeing a row of small religious drawings --
possibly depicting the Stations of The Cross --across one of the walls the
first time we saw the interior of Vachon's church. My guess is that Javier
may have even drawn this series of pictures himself!

And someone mentioned statues-- YES there was at least one large statue of
the Blessed Mother in Vachon's church. Maybe some things were left there or,
it may be that Javier himself-- maybe with Screed's assistance-- found,
bought, accumulated the statue and other items. Quite possible; Vachon seems
to be a 'pack-rat' in his own right-- has lots of boxes of stuff from almost
5 centuries (!) and I assume that when the church was deconsecrated the
previous owners, maybe the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto would have
removed any and all items of religious value and also anything else of
value. This may not be too difficult as some Roman Catholic churches have
removed some of their beautiful statues and some 'old' ones and some newer
ones are not ornate as Catholic churches used to be-- i.e., they don't all
look like the church in FIHS nowadays.

And Laudon1965@a....... writes:
<So if there isn't anything left behind that retains a sacred "charge", I
don't imagine the place would be harmful to a vamp.>

IIRC, generally in vamp folklore a CONSCRATED church would not be a place a
vampire would want to be in-- even in FIHS, Nick did have difficulty being
in one, and but trying to be a 'good vamp' he was able to be there. LC and
other not-good vamps probably would have some trouble, IMHO.

-- And, as someone mentioned, it used to be-- but I don't know if it is the
still practice today-- that there would be a relic placed in the altar of a
Roman Catholic Church-- and FYI relics MAY be very tiny, not necessarily
large. With the consecrated altar and the relic removed prior to Vachon
taking up residence there, he, being IMHVaqO one of the GOOD variety of
vampires, may have nothing there that would disturb him. LC and some of the
other vamps-- especially Divia-- could have difficulties, and maybe the fact
that Vachon's home is a church would keep other uninvited unfriendly vamps
away. The candelabras, statues, and other things may have been there because
Vachon liked them --maybe they reminded him of his mortal life and/or
brought back fond memories of his life with his family in Spain! Urs and
even Nick coming to Vachon's church home could just be because they're GOOD
vamps-- maybe some non-good vamps could not enter, unlike Vachon's GOOD vamp
brother, The Inca, even though Vachon would have wanted to/maybe hoped he'd
not pay him a 'family visit'!

Never say never! On the North Pacific coast, several nations had eagle
clans. The Tsimshian tribe, on the Skeena & Nass rivers on the northern
coast of British Columbia, historically had four clans--Wolf, Blackfish

Hi all,
yes - it's me, Shenandora. I'm still alive :-) and back in fandom. Most of
you may know me.
The dFK list (german Forever Knight list) still exsists and if there are
newbies here who didn't know about that list...come and take a look.
I would be very happy if someone send me a kind of *update* what happened
during the time I wasn't here (since January, 2000).
What is Nigel / Ger doing at the moment...I know a bit from my friends in FK
fandom but not that much.
Are there any new sites about FK, BH and others? And what about lists - are
there any new lists?
I'm still a CotK !
Thank You for any help!

Maybe. Maybe not. When I was first learning to talk, my
family lived in New Mexico on a Navajo (spelling?) Indian
reservation. We were surrounded by folks with southern accents
and I apparently had a wicked one when I was little. After my
family moved to Vermont, the accent disappeared.
Decades later I went to Louisiana for a week.
The southern drawl came back hard.
It amused the hell out of the coworkers I was traveling with
because I couldn't control it. In a day or two I sounded like I was
from the south land myself.
Flew back into New England, and the accent disappeared.

The way you talk can do very funny things.
My opinion is that our vampire friends can do many accents.
They are probably "current" with pronouncations for whatever
country they are currently residing in. But, it wouldn't surprise me
that if someone walked up to Nick and started talking in Old
English - which is very different from what we speak now - that he
could answer them and gain fluency rapidly as he was reexposed
to the language and the old memories of how to speak it came
back.

The problem with that is, while Nick is unhappy as a vampire, he is a devout
Catholic, even though he may have been disillusioned with the Church when he
was brought over. I don't believe changing his faith or belief system would be
something he'd even consider.

I think that Nick could eventually be happy as a mortal, although he'll have to
work through some "issues," as they say. He might want to have some soulsearching
chats with an understanding priest to update his concepts of forgiveness, too. <g>

I see Nick as an idealist at heart, and idealists will always live with
disappointment, since the world will never be as they desire it to be. I do
think he'll keep striving for more than he has, no matter his state of life or
unlife, and won't give up. After all, despite his despair as a vampire, he hasn't
walked into the sun -- there is some element within him that keeps fighting.

Ever the optimist, Nancy Kaminski

I imagine it would depend upon what chemical or combination of chemicals a
vampire would need to maintain their metabolism. If the needed substance is
hemoglobin, red blood cells alone would do just fine. But if the needed
substance is leukocyte esterase or some other white blood cell factor, then
just white blood cells would be fine. There are any number of substances in
blood that might be required for a vampire to exist, but most authors whom
I've read who bother to take this into any scientific detail, presume that
vampire metabolism is a hemolytic process requiring replenishment of whole
blood supplies.

yes, thanks to Kylie I too have a hat, with my e-mail on the back..
I where it everywhere, and when going to a big thing, like the Wisconsin
state fair I also where my T-shirt i made that says
The Raven
open from
dusk
to Dawn
feeding the immortals of
Forever Knight

And one time someone *actually* asked me about it! (at six flags) and of
course I did my duty as an FK fan, and told him all about it.. even lost my
spot in line...

but I think that we should find a way to make a HUGE FK directory of fans...
I'm starting one of the DP fans... all it is is a list of whom is in what
town, and gives your e-mail addy so that, say you just moved to clombus
Ohio... you can look at the dir. and see that there are 4 FK fans in that
area!

Not a bad idea.

Maybe a searchable database, but you'd have to know some combination of
factors -- maybe a simple password like 1228, something so that telemarketers
and spammers couldn't just get the addresses without our consent. If it's to
be online, that is.

Probably not. And breaking off a fang must be really painful.
Not to mention getting your fangs stuck in a coconut.

Could it be because of the (normally) life-giving power of the sun?

see that is why just the town and an e-mail addy, so that they would have to
e-mail you directly to get your address...

and, then you don't suddenly have a FK fan on your doorstep, without any

I wouldn't call it wine cut with blood. She says, "I find I can mix it with
a little wine." So, it isn't mostly wine with a little blood in it; it's
blood with a little wine in it.

So, I think she's adding wine to the blood, because she likes the effect of
wine. If that's the case, I think a vampire bartender may well call her a
lush, referring to her drinking alcohol, rather than straight blood.

It is probably not a good idea to publicize people's addresses, even in a
general way (name/city/email addy). This would allow virtually anyone to find
your street address, phone number, and so on, and not everyone on the net is
very nice.

Can you say "stalker?"

I think it's no trouble to simply ask on the list if there's anyone in your
destination city, and request off-list replies. That way, if a person *wants*
to be contacted, they can be.

It's a thoughtful idea, but not very safe in this day and age.

(did that make the 4 line quote limit?)

Let's assume (for argument's sake) that the plasma replacement is sufficient:
1. Would that affect the status of the vamp culturally or physically if
this was their "first kill" (similar to Carouche-hood?)
2. Would Nat have accepted this as a reasonable substitute to wean Nick off
the red stuff (or maybe it could be used as the base for those shakes)
Maybe that's really what the "tropical aroma" in the car was in the ep.
Nick had to testify in court (False Witness??)
3. How would it rate as compared to "fresh from the fridge" steer blood?

Ones mind does tend to get carried away.....
