Between Forever Knight and fandom lies ObSOSsion.....

Subject: A *lot* of Confusion/ List

I've been nomail, but someone has sent me a few of today's posts. I am
still doing the "Who's in Charge" list. I had only said I was *thinking*
about passing it on. No matter, my apologies for the whole awful note.

If you want to be on the list, *e-mail me privately* and you'll be on.
Thanks to all who offered to help, but I'm in this for the long haul, and
Cousin Linda is helping me with the list when I need it.

Well...as Karen Tobin later pointed out in the same digest, this government
body took a _large_ hit from our new, fiscally arch-conservative government, a
government which I might add, I helped vote into office. :-) (Actually: as
my local Tory candidate did NOT win, my vote for him did NOT go towards
causing the current governmental majority....feh!)

Seriously, though...Karen is right in suggesting that relying on government
assistance is probably not a good idea. However, you could conceivably argue
that as a Canadian-produced show with a large U.S. _and_ Canadian following,
it might be "more worthy" of being supported.

Cousin Lisa Prince, who is doing such a wonderful job with the charity
drive, won the free FK tape. I think this is a sign! I have kept the
names of everyone who responded to this and I will notify you if I have
an opportunity to do this again. I didn't want to make anyone feel
excluded, but I thought that sending a postcard tied this in to our
Save FK campaign. Don't let this keep you from sending a card!
Please keep them coming!

Congratulations Lisa!

Everyone keep up the fantastic work to SOS and Thank You!

Wow...another Toronto fan de-lurks...amazing. :-)

"Gag" is right.

>Thank god I can still see FK on by ABC affiliate in Buffalo <g>!

...absolutely.

Hmmm...CFPL Channel 10 (black 10 in the TV guide) in London used to show it on
Mondays at 10pm, but I don't think that it's on today. Let's take a
look...Wow, it IS on today. Time for that 2.5 hour trip to London, then...
:-)

>Are they still airing FK or did they just cancel (?) it in my area?

Well, I'm actually not sure that CFTO has cancelled the re-showings of Forever
Knight, or whether they are waiting for the broadcasting of the new episodes
that haven't been shown yet. Mind you, though, if they _did_ pull the show,
and did so because of poor ratings, well, golly gee, maybe it has something to
do with the fact that CFTO's broadcasts were SIX WEEKS behind WKBW's
broadcasts - duh?

Anyway, I'm going to call CFTO tomorrow (after the fact, yes, but...) and ask
them: their number is 299-2000 (or 299-2030 for programming information).

Subject: Happy New Year, Lifetime, etc.

First, Happy New Year, all...guess I'm last. Blame that hefty time
difference to Hawaii..Wore my CERK t-shirt to Maui First Night, as
promised..but no one even noticed it. :( Unfortunately, I don't have a
more obvious shirt that just says "Forever Knight."

A question: Was January 2 the cut-off date by which support letters *had*
to arrive at USA? If so, I ain't gonna make it. Just found out about the
apparent deadline, and I can't even *mail* letters till the 2nd. I'd
happily be one of the "first wave" to send letters post-official
cancellation, however--should that become necessary. Could someone confirm
this for me? Should I send letters now, anyway?

Finally...the more I think about it, the more I think that maybe Lifetime
*is* the best place for FK. Wasn't Lifetime the network that ran repeats of
Beauty and the Beast for awhile, after it was axed? I think in some ways,
FK is more like this show, than like Highlander. Nick is undoubtedly better
looking than Vincent--but he's still a beast afraid of the repercussions of
fully expressing his love..This sort of "impossible romance" theme is
*definately* a romance staple--and prime for a "woman's network". Hmmm...do
you suppose a comparison can be made between Vincent's poetic interludes,
and Uncle's spooky, philosophic monologues??? If Vincent represented the
80s, and Uncle, the 90s...I'd say we're living in cynical times.

Whoops...another "finally"..Has anyone ever compiled a list of things that
we most really like about FK? What really makes it stand out as unique, in
our minds? Not exactly a scientific viewer demographic, but you can
obviously learn a lot about viewers by taking a closer look at what they
like about a media product. If it hasn't been done before (since I am
pretty new to the list), it might be a nice, affirming thread to get going,
in the midst of all the doom and gloom we unfortunately find ourselves in..
Anyway, I'll go first. As a former history major, I *love* historical
flashbacks--especially anything involving the middle ages. I'm fascinated
by the idea of a being who is able to cross time, watching the world change.
Yep, that's probably the main reason why I like Highlander, and time travel
stories, too. I like the moral dilemmas and issues FK raises. Oh and I've
always liked vampires...:[
