Ms. Lora Haines, recently of Leominster, MA, passed away unexpectedly Sunday,
January 18, 2015, of complications from pneumonia. She was 63.

She came down with pneumonia in September 2014. She spent time in various
hospitals in Massachusetts. She would get better and go home, then the
pneumonia would come back. Most recently she was sent to U Mass Memorial
Hospital, in Worcester, MA. Early Sunday morning at the hospital she reported
she could not breathe. She passed out, she hemorrhaged out, and that was that.
We may never find out the root cause of her illness.

Lora was president of the Forever Knight Fan Club in the 1990s, when the club
put on two Dead of Winter conventions dedicated to Forever Knight. During part
of that time she was also captain of the Boston Star Trek Association. In
recent years she had scaled her fan activity way back. Too busy living.

Her estate and her, well, transition rituals are being managed by her sister
Czu. Send sympathy cards to:

I am sure Czu does not want a flood of phone calls, but she is on Facebook.
Also the funeral home has offered to set up a remembrance page on line. I will
pass on those details.

Funeral arrangements have not been determined. Czu may do something private
now, and have a gathering of friends later. One close friend has suggested a
vampire-themed funeral, but Lori had moved beyond that stuff. Frankly I think
it would be in bad taste. (Then again, I am a notorious stuffed shirt.)

Please give this report the widest distribution. We want all of FK fandom to
know about Lori's sad fate. We want to hear from all of you.

I was Lori's boyfriend. I am not on Facebook, but you can email me.

P. S. I liked the third season. Bite me.

Thank you everyone who responded to my question!! Based on what you all
said, it sounds like a vampire's stomach doesn't function any longer - so
ingestion has to be through more direct means - alcohol is absorbed
through the cell walls, and a patch is designed to be absorbed directly
through the skin.

Maybe the skin patch wouldn't be as quick or effective, because it's such
a small area and, as was mentioned, a vampire's pulse is so slow
distribution through the body would be equally as slow. I wonder if
inhaling would work - fill an atomizer with a double espresso, for
example. Vampires can breathe, so a good lungful of vaporized coffee might
cause one to get a little perky, might even get that heart rate up to 1
beat every 10 minutes.

I so very much want to ask the next question this line of thought brings
to mind, but this is a PG list, so, unfortunately, I don't know how I'd
make it appropriate. It involves Natalie and a microscope, at least in
part.

So... we having another war or what?

As I recall, Lora was immortalized in Last Knight as Natalie's friend who
committed suicide at the beginning of the episode.
