Whoa! Now *that* raises an issue that hasn't been brought up before.
Beenda, do you know something I don't? (Quite possibly.)

Let's backtrack. When I realized that the site disappeared, it was because
I was doing a routine sweep through all the FK sites I know to check on
their status--something that I do now and then when updating the wiki. My
first reaction was to e-mail both Arletta and the list. I got no response
*directly* from Arletta, which I put down to ISP problems. (Charm.net is
part of both her website URL and her e-mail addy.)

Arletta clearly was still, at that point, getting list notifications, since
she *did* reply here. On Tue, 7 Oct 2014 17:44:25 -0400, she said:

> My regular charm.net email is still working.

No mention of RL problems causing her to create an online persona.

Now, there *has* been one instance when a site has vanished and
investigation has made it clear that the owner definitely would not want it
included in the Forever Knight Website Archive. That happened with JMR (aka
Imajiru):  she took her site down herself.  We found that out very quickly;
so that site has *never* been in the archive.

Brenda is clearly suggesting that that may be the situation here as well.
However, Arletta's own e-mail to the list does not indicate that anything
like that going on. Am I reading it wrong? Because *to me* what Arletta
wrote is more indicative of ISP problems.

???

When she last wrote to the list, she seemed like she was planning on
contacting her ISP to restore her website. Her email may have gone the way
of the dodo when the ISP shut down and she may not be reading these emails

One temporary solution would be to provide a link to the archived version
until she can be reached

I'd appreciate knowing what people on list think. You probably remember
that Arletta's website disappeared fairly recently. (I think her ISP
probably dropped offering them, or something like that.)

Now I have a partial copy of her website. I don't have *quite* all of it.
There's a small section on the characters that I somehow missed. On the
other hand, I do have all her stories.

I've tried e-mailing Arletta a few times asking what she'd like me to do,
plus posting here a while back; but I still haven't heard anything back from
her.

So, should Steph and I add the site to the website archive anyway? What do
you all think?

I know there must be people out there following the discussion, wondering
what's going to happen next. Once things are taken to the fandom at large,
they can't just be dropped.

As we've said before, Steph and I do try to contact people before archiving
their personal sites. Where the message bounces (or simply doesn't go
through), this is normally with a very old site that has been around for
ages, like the old GeoCities and FortuneCity sites. Such websites could
have been taken down at any time by their owners if they'd wanted to; so
it's not unreasonable for us to presume that they are willing for them still
to be available for people to look at.

With Arletta's site, the situation is different. She's still around. So,
if anyone out there knows how to contact her, would you please ask her to
get in touch with either me or Steph and tell us what she wants done with
her site?

In the meantime, we'll not put it in the archive yet.

It is very frustrating and I feel that Arletta did not just want to
disappear or take her site down on purpose. As I said before the whole
domain, charm.net, owned by the hosting company where her site was
listed just disappeared. It is still owned by the company, Toadnet, but
it isn't up and running.
