Wars 5 & 7 I lurked, because of the intimidation factor someone mentioned. In my
early teens, before Internet use was common, I'd done Round Robin stories with a
handful of friends. Some was Doctor Who fan fiction, even, but this was a group of
pals passing along notebook pages between geometry classes. I didn't know 'fan
fiction' was something other people did; it was just what I did with my friends.

So when War 5 & 7 happened, I didn't feel as if I'd really written fanfic before,
and I felt I'll-prepared to participate. I mainly lurked on the lists while the
show was airing original episodes. (And omg I just remembered there was a 3rd FK
spoiler list, wasn't there?!)

After War 7, I posted some fanfic, made friends off of the fanfic feedback, and
Nunkies Anonymous became an institution. When War 8 happened, I was ready to try
it out. Wars 8-11 happened while I was an undergrad, so I could "accommodate the
weird hours" of something that took 2 weeks away from the norm.

Since then, it's been a matter of schedule. Wars 13 and 15 hit at an okay time, 12
and 14 did not. Mostly I've limited myself to weekend writing. Luckily, there were
people like Bonnie Pardoe and other super-helpful participants who kept me afloat
when I couldn't write.

Nancy K brings up a good point - sometimes you just can't get the story down in
the frenzy of War (especially the leviathans that were Wars 5-12). I like to think
that's why I did other faction 'adventures' like 'You Know Who's Fault' or 'Season
of Unreason,' but then, NunkAnon and pals were the only ones who wrote war stories
outside of war, I think. I might have just been doing a modern version of passing
notes after geometry class to my friends. :)

Subject: 'Reboot' of Forever Knight???

I ran across this blog post on Yahoo dated 11/05/13. I was wondering
if anyone else had seen it.

The blogger talks about rebooting FK instead of Charmed. He also ads
his ideas on how to do it? What do you guys think?
Not sure how I would feel about a reboot. In a way I would love to see
it again, but sad knowing our beloved actors probably wouldn't be in
it. Being from the US I would still want it set in Toronto. To me the
city was a character.
What would you change/keep the same??

I'd see as a "variation on a theme" and go into it with a totally open mind like
I did with all the Star Trek series. People moaned and groaned when Next Generation
was announced, and had to eat their words. I was in a Star Trek fan club at the
time and was one of the few excited! LOL.

I wouldn't care much about where it was or which actors were in it as long as it
was a show I enjoyed.

Besides, although I'd love to see all the actors again, they could no longer play
their same characters without a lot of explaining about aging. And the actor I'd
want to play my favorite character simply isn't here any more to do so :-( But to
see someone else do it well would be an honor, and I think Greg Kramer would feel
the same as it'd mean another actor has a job.

Rebooting doesn't work much of the time...and I don't see a purpose to it
	here.
Set the new show Eternal Nite in....Boston say.
	The cast?
	Lady Madelyn Nite...600 years old...ex-British aristocrat....now a
vampiress desperately trying to regain her mortality and atone for her
	years of homicide.
She has two objectives in life now.
1) regain entrance to Heaven by sincerely repenting and atoning for her sins
2) conceive a mortal child of her own by regaining her humanity and finding a man
to spend her dying days with
She is trying to be a practicing Catholic and uses her accumulated wealth,
talents and vampiric-nature to try to correct social injustices/bad things
that she becomes aware of via friends or her website LastChanceInBoston.Com

Detective Lieutenant Myra Quirt. Early forties. The most heavily
decorated officer on the Boston police force. Divorced twice. Is opening
minded and gets handed what his boss terms "the cases it takes an adult to
solve or bury". Keeps running into Ms. Nite in the assorted dead-ends
where seriously weird bad things happen.

Father Raymond Chandler. Priest of the church Ms Nite is a member of.
Ruggedly handsome and young (yes, I'm thinking Michael McMannus in For I
Have Sinned). Torn between saving Ms Nite's soul and his dream of being
the man she spends her dying days with. With great internal turmoil,
slips information to Ms Nite from time to time about people who desperately
need her help who have confided in him and have no other earthly way of
	getting free of their problem.

There should be a few other mortals, probably a small cadre that rotates
in and out...each does 4-5 shows a season as available. Think the Lone
Gunmen from the X-Files. I think the structure needs at least 1 other
permanent female character to balance Ms Nite...but that takes more time
to think through then I have right now.

Special Guest Star: Nigel Bennet popping in from time to time as LaCroix.
Ms. Nite is one of his daughters. A noblewoman he turned to pay off a
formidable debt he owed her (not money...something really important).

The core of the series is Ms Nite and tensions in her life caused by the
triangle with Detective Quirt and Father Chandler. The triangle is
romantic, yes, but also hits all three characters at a professional level
as they interact with each other and Ms Nite's quest to once again walk in
the light of the day and God's approval.

=======================

I have no problems rebooting the series, and of course it requires a complete
recasting since time has moved on for us mortals.

That said, I do not care for the blogger's suggestion to add in werewolves, demons,
etc. (is this a Buffy reboot?). I would also prefer it to be placed outside the
US---if not Toronto, then some other very large city. It would be cool to set it
in Paris, with so many evocative locations and opportunities for flashbacks with
good scenery. (And think of the opportunities for really great clothes---I've been
to Paris, and the average Parisian seems to be so much better dressed than the
average American. Berlin is another great location.

I don't that that Seattle is gritty enough or even big enough to provide the right
kind of setting. We've all seen New York over and over. Let's think outside the
box here!
