On Thu, 6 Mar 2014, I asked:

I'd like to thank everyone who's responded. However, I'm sure there are
more "old warriors" out there! And I know there are people who have never
played.

Why did *you* stop playing? (Or, if you've never been in a war, why have
you preferred not to play?)

Although I've technically participated in several wars, I think I only every
really played actively in one war awhile back when I was in college. I think it
was War 8. I could accommodate the weird hours then that were needed to keep
up with the war. Later, even with summary war correspondent posts, I found it
so easy to get behind and then never catch up. As things slowed somewhat, I
then felt like I didn't really participate enough in the past to get the in-joke
references that kept popping up. In the more recent wars, I've had RL stuff
like work and vacation get in the way. I still find them fun to follow along
though, even if it's only peripherally.

I never played in the wars for several reasons, the primary ones being that the
glacial pace at which I write is not suited to them and that I view myself as a
Natpacker, but not a NickandNatpacker, and by the time I joined the list in 2001,
there was no independent Natpacker presence during wars
.
