War 15 has been over now for a couple of weeks. (Well, unless Laura gets
that last Merc post up.) This time round, McLisa suggested that deadlines
be loose; so several factions made their final posts a few days late; and
some people--myself included--took the opportunity to tie up story arcs we
wanted to finish properly. I think most players would agree that this war
was a success. In fact, we had more posts than in War 14!

From comments, though, it's clear that War has evolved a lot since days of
yore. For one thing, there are a lot fewer players.

I know that there have always been those with no interest in war. (Which is
fair. It's not for everyone.) On the other hand, I get the impression that
there are still quite a number of people on list who *used* to play. For
one reason or another, though, you stopped.

I'm wondering why.

I mean, I can certainly think of *possible* reasons. Wars were too huge for
you to be able to keep up with posts as they were mailed, and too confusing
to read afterwards; so you got fed up. Or your faction was so big that you
had no input into how story arcs would develop. Or you found the rules too
restrictive. Or you stopped enjoying the wackiness, and put away childish
things. Or you graduated, got a job or had kids (or both), and no longer
have time--not even behind the scenes.

But that's just me speculating. Everyone will have their own reasons.

If you're one of the people who used to play, but no more, then why did you
stop? Or conversely, if war never appealed to you, why not?

This last war was difficult especially the last week as RL was intruding a
lot to make it difficult to have time to write
any stories, though as being the only one in the faction did make it easier
as not having to co ordinate with other
faction members.
Swing and Roundabouts as you would say.
For me it depends on RL what time I have for War I enjoyed them the story
lines are fun to read.
It does give me a chance to relax and recharge so to speak so I do look
forward to them.
So for me squeazing in time between work and family life can be difficult.
