We all understand the importance of protecting the list.

The question then becomes one of how *we fans* can have a war without
requiring more of you.

Although the first war was delightfully disorganized, I suspect that the
Cousins at least had more going on behind the scenes than ever appeared on
the surface. Also, in later wars, factions clearly did a lot of preparation
on their own lists before and during war.

Being a latecomer to the lists, I missed the heyday of War--being personally
involved only in War 13 (with the missing clothes), and War 14 (with the
overabundance of clues). Nevertheless, through this experience and through
reading our history, I've picked up a few impressions.

I know we have a few ex-warleaders still on list: I hope they'll correct
me if I'm wrong. However, I've sort of got the notion that there are two
keys to a successful war: preparation and communication. Both are
essential *before* war. Then, with the groundwork laid, everyone can let
loose happily once war actually begins.

For instance, isn't there a Yahoo group for the warleaders
(http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/fkwarleaders/)? From the info on its
front page, it was active in January of this year, when War 14 was on. At
the very least, that would provide some sort of forum for organizing,
wouldn't it?

I like the idea, as long as we can spend more time interacting with others and
other factions than trying to figure out klews.

Towards the end of January 2014, it will be twenty years since the first
Forever Knight war. Surely this momentous anniversary deserves to be marked
in some way! Several months ago, it was suggested that we might have
another war as celebration. Or does anyone have any other ideas,
preferences, etc. for what we can do?

For the past three wars, I've been the primary writer for the Mercs, and
last war, I was dragged kicking and screaming into being the Merc Mommy
General--second in command. I honestly don't know if I'll have the time in
January or February to write again because I'm now in charge of the asylum
here. My older siblings are aspies (aspergers syndrome) and I have teh care
of them, a toddler and a baby, my 90 year old grandmother, and one younger
sibling. I am, however, willing to try. You'll need to talk to Mildred,
though....

As I understand it, there were three people who submitted ideas for War 14.
Only one was used. Perhaps we could resurrect one of the others? Or have
some sort of *theme* going? Otherwise, we'll just be floundering around
with no idea what to do! (*I* remember the first few days of last January's
war. No one knew what the War Mistress wanted of us, and we were all
tearing our hair out.)

Regardless of what else we might do, I'd like to put forward something I
suggested to Nancy (NAT) in a letter this afternoon.

Suppose we start with the idea that everyone is coming to Toronto for a
twentieth-anniversary celebration? At that point, the notion of War isn't
in the air: we're just coming to celebrate. Only after a couple of days
does the "premise" start. That will give time for people to write their
opening posts.

However, those who don't want to take part in the war itself have the choice
of opting out. Either coming late, just for the final couple of days, i.e.
for the party. Or they can arrive with everyone else, but then get "called
home" for an "emergency" and then return for the party.

I know there are those who can't devote the usual two weeks needed for a
full war, but might find time to squeeze out posts for coming-to-Toronto,
meeting-up-with-friends, and big-20th-anniversary-bash.

Mind you, I *am* still hoping there'll be a war in the middle. :)

I'm enjoying thinking about what LaCroix would have to say on CERK about
Toronto's current mayor.

Any thoughts?

H'mm, fanfic challenge, anyone? My first thought is something along
the lines of ""Drunken Stupor', or Drunken, Stupid." <EG>

I just screwed up the quotation of the previous post in a pasteing
error. I hope you can follow it anyway.

Greer wrote in response to my post about possibilities for a 29th
anniversary war:

In the first place, I don't still have them. In the second place, not
on Fkfic-l, because that would require the appointment of a WM, who is
usually the person who submitted the chosen premise. I am not going to
get involved in that, as I said. A WM needs to do a lot of back
channel work with the listowners, which is exactly what I am not
willing to do. In the third place Don and I have chosen from among the
premises for the other wars. I am not willing to do that, as I stated.

>> Or have some sort of *theme* going?

I have no problem with that, as long as the choice is made by the
listers without involving me except that of course I'd be discussing
and voting, if a vote is taken, like anyone else.

>> Otherwise, we'll just be floundering around with no idea what to do!

Unless we go with random attacks like the first war, I have to agree
with the desirability of having a premise.

I _like_ this. Great idea, Greer!

All of this makes sense and has precedents in other wars. (No, I'm not
a lawyer, nor do I play one on tv. <EG> I just think like that.)

You know, with the war: topic on Fkfic-l and the fact that it's not a
high-volume list any longer, I don't see why we need a rigid time
limit. Let's decide by consensus on here. Those who don't have time
to participate after starting, could simply disappear, drop out or let
someone else write them. After all, the permission slips grant
permission to be written about as a character.

>>Mind you, I *am* still hoping there'll be a war in the middle. :)

So do I. There's not much point in an anniversary of the war
celebration without one.

I think the first war predates the factions. Anyway, I know for a fact
that there was no Cousins organization. I can't speak for other
factions, but the only organizing I know about was Sandy and her
Wicked Warren, which I ended up joining.

Being a latecomer to the lists, I missed the heyday of War--being personally

It cerainly helps, if the list wants a highly organized war.
Personally I like chaos, but that's just me as a player, not me as a
listowner. <g>

If Yahoo hasn't deleted it, yes, it should still be there and could
certainly be used that way.
