There's an old family story that one of my ancestors was driving a cart
along a road when he was stopped by a group of Royalist soldiers, who
promptly asked him whether he was for King or Parliament.
He scratched his head and said, "King? Parliament? Bless me, have they
differed?"
As he was clearly the village idiot, they rode on their way.
He then proceeded to take the cartload of supplies to the Parliamentarian
army.
Nick, of course, would have whammied him and discovered the truth--which
would have been the end of *my* ancestor, no doubt. At least, I strongly
suspect that Nick would have been on the Royalist side. LaCroix, too:
great believers in privilege, both (especially their own privilege, of
course).
