Discussing "Dying to Know You" and paranormal events in FK ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2013 16:58:32 -0400 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: Discussing "Dying to Know You" and paranormal events in FK With "Dying to Know You", Forever Knight introduces unequivocally to the paranormal. Oh, there are vampires, of course! (FK definitely has vampires.) If, however, we take vampires as given, the series is emphatically a cop show. Nick is a homicide detective, albeit with a significant "difference"; and, in every episode, he has a murder to solve. The only previous episode to dally with other forms of the paranormal or supernatural was "Last Act". However, there, things were more equivocal. Did Nick actually see Erica's ghost? As filmed, one might say yes: the actress was on screen, lit so that she would appear washed out in a halo of blue-white light. Nevertheless, the scenes are interpretable as Nick's *thoughts* of Erica--hallucinations or the like, one might argue. Certainly, no one else in the episode saw Erica's image; nor did it interact with the real world as a poltergeist might. (In Season Three, things were different. But then, as people often point out, Season Three *was* different.) In "Dying to Know You", though, there is no question that Denise Fort is a clairvoyant. Stonetree accepts her as such, and has used her in previous cases. And, of course, we are given glimpses of her visions.
