Until 05/17 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 23 Apr 2013 21:18:10 -0700 From: "Amy R." <akr@l.......> Subject: FKFicFest 2013 Sign-ups Open! Until 05/17 I was just about to share the news of FKFicFest 2013 when we got the sad, sad news that we had lost Greg Kramer, who is and will be much missed. And then the US shared a week shadowed by the events in Boston and Texas, and Canada thwarted a terrorist plot. Such real-life events can make fannish play seem untimely if not inappropriate. But time rolls on and the game has a calendar. Please forgive me if this is too soon. --- This year brings the fourth round of FKFicFest, the exciting FK "ficathon" game! All FK fans are invited! We play exchange-style (rather than the challenge-style traditional for fiction games on FKFic-L). This means that each player submits a slate of three story prompts that she/he would like to read, and receives in return a similar slate submitted by another player, from which she/he picks one prompt and writes one story addressing that prompt. (For example, one person's prompt slate might be (1) "Nick/Natalie, dance to remember," (2) "Nick&Schanke, murder at the baseball stadium," (3) "Vachon's crew, how Screed first reacted to Urs coming across.") We have two months to write. Then, during the big festival week itself, we reveal all the new stories, and have a wonderful time reading and chatting! For the details, please see our community either on Dreamwidth or Livejournal (you can follow absolutely equally on either one; you may also follow from here on the email list, but experience has shown that it really does work better to play actively from one of the social-journaling sites). DW: http://fkficfest.dreamwidth.org/ LJ: http://fkficfest.livejournal.com/ 2013 Timeline: - 4/07: Sign-ups open. - 5/17: Sign-ups close. - 5/20: Prompt assignments sent. - 7/27: Stories due. - 7/29: Stories begin revealing. Want to read stories from past games? Try the handy links here: http://fkficfest.dreamwidth.org/profile . I'm the moderator of the communities (which means that I host the game). Please feel free to ask me any questions, here or on either social-journaling site. --- I send my very best and fondest wishes to everyone on list, in general, and in the wake of our loss of Greg, in specific. I don't read the list frequently anymore, but the arrival of each digest makes me happy; I still dearly love our community, as I have since I first discovered it when I fumbled my way online after reading about FK's cancellation in the newspaper. (Happy New Year, 1996! Ack. ~wry~) You all mean a great deal to me. Amy R. akr@l.......
