So, in case anyone was concerned: Toronto was mostly troubled by power outages and tree damage. Only one person was killed in the storm, though a hydro worker has since died on the job. On a more personal note, although we had two black-outs, power in my home came back on Tuesday morning. Are folks in the New York and Atlantic coastal region all okay? We weathered the storm OK in DC. Some folks were without power for awhile but the area came through with minimal damage considering the scope of this storm. Things started returning to normal for most folks in the area today. :) Boomer >________________________________ > From: Steph <s.hand@a.......> >To: FORKNI-L@l....... >Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 7:15 PM >Subject: Re: Hurricane Sandy > >Thank goodness you are Ok. We lost power just after 8PM Monday evening; just got it back around 9PM tonight. Cable Internet was out for about an hour after power was restored; cable TV and phone were OK. It's for occasions like these that Frank and I refuse to give up our copper-line Verizon phone... Brenda F. Bell webwarren@e....... I had planned to ask later today if we didn't start hearing. I hope everyone who was in Sandy's path is ok, and am glad to hear good news from those who have checked in so far. The television coverage has been frightening. McLisa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2012 09:48:06 -0700 From: Laurie of the Isles <laudon1228@y.......> Subject: Hurricane Sandy. UFer Gail okay Sorry for the cross post. Some of you may know that our UFer bud Gail lives on Long Island. When I had messaged with her as Sandy was approaching, she was concerned, that though she lives in the center of the Island, her house has been prone to flooding in the past. I really began worrying when I didn't see her online at all the day before yesterday. Yesterday morning I got an email from her. She and her family had somehow made it to her husband's office in Manhattan, and it miraculously had power. She said her power was out, that 18% of Long Island was without power. She said her house had not flooded, but that they would need a new roof and her brand new fence was badly damaged. She said LI was devastated, with trees and power lines down everywhere. Given that, and the state of mass transit, I am amazed she was able to make it into Manhattan early yesterday. She said that she and her family would be showering at the gym at her husband's office. I emailed back letting her know how relieved I was that she and hers were okay, and asking if it was okay to share her news. Today she emailed back that it was okay to share, and that miraculously her house had gotten power back, but not yet cable, so no internet for her. She said all her friends and family were showering at her house for the time being. Has anybody heard from UF list ownder, Julia Kocich, who lives in Queens? I have not seen her on FB since Sandy hit.
