What happens if you send it to yourself? Does it come out correctly? If not it is your email client. As far as I know most list serves don't accept accents. If it does then possibly the list serve doesn't have those characters in the font it is using. According to the header in your email you are using 8-bit encoding in your email program. You might try changing it to MIME-Quoted-Printable character encoding Steph On 9/15/2012 6:03 AM, Otto Maton wrote: > Is there a trick for getting foreign accents correctly posted on this > server/list? The only thing I have ever found that works is to put the accented word you wish to emphasize in italics. Hope that helps. ================================ On Sat, 15 Sep 2012 19:52:24 -0400 Stephanie Kellerman <stequina@i.......> writes: > What happens if you send it to yourself? My understanding is that the email sent to FORKNI-L and to FKFIC-L has to be in "plain text" which unfortunately does not have much in the way of formatting: no italics, no bold, no accent marks, etc. (hence the name "plain text"). Some of the usual work-arounds are asterisks for bold and underscores for italics: *bold* and _underscore_. This does nothing for accent marks though. You could just ignore them. People are going to know you mean the South American wool producing animal, the vicuna, whether there's an accent mark or not. It may be annoying, but there you are. Note that in most other venues where FK material is posted, you can use most of the various formatting and accent marks. Stories are written in the late fall, and posted in time for Christmas. Alas, it is true that Forever Knight has been eligible for years: we are nowadays considered a "rare fandom". Yuletide nominations will open on 24 September, at which point people can fill out the form. This lets them name the rare fandoms that they want to see on the Big List of fandoms. (It is from this list that people will pick the fandoms they want to ask for stories in, and offer the ones they are willing to write stories for.) Right now, therefore, people are talking fandoms--discussing the ones they're thinking of writing, and spreading the word about things that they hope other people will nominate. You see, the rules only allow you to nominate three (3) fandoms to be added to the Big List of Fandoms from which people can pick. For each of your three fandoms, you may nominate four (4) characters. (All the nominated characters in a fandom are then tossed in together, so people asking for that fandom can choose to ask for any of them.) So, obviously, I'm going to nominate Forever Knight. But which four of the FK characters should I name? And naturally, I hope that *other* people will also nominate Forever Knight. But which four characters will each of them pick? This is not an idle question. You see, the rules say that, if I nominate a character that someone else has already suggested, only one of the nominations will count. I'll essentially have wasted one of my precious four characters. So, will everyone nominate Nick, because he *has* to be there? Then all but the first of those people will be wasting a character nomination. (Or horrors! maybe no one will nominate Nick because everyone assumes that someone else will already have done so.) In short, coordination is needed so that we can ask for the maximum number of characters. That way, people will have flexibility in asking for the stories they'd like. I've started a post on LiveJournal so that we can coordinate. (http://greerwatson.livejournal.com/23404.html) Do please drop by and tell everyone which characters you plan to nominate. Oh, and even if you aren't planning to do Yuletide this year, do consider putting in a nomination. The more characters we can get listed, the merrier the players can be.
