Subject: FKFicFest 2012: Day 6: Another big new story today!

Saturday is the sixth day of FKFicFest 2012! We release the biggest
stories on weekend days, in hopes that when people are not working,
they have more time to read. (Of course that depends on one's job,
doesn't it?)

Today's new FK adventure is the longest story in this year's game:

* "Knight Down" by Foxy11814 (PG-13; m/f; 12,059 words) *
Characters: Nick/Natalie, Reese, Tracy
Summary: Nick and Nat finally get away from it all. The only problem
is: they want to go back!

If you are so generous as to spend your time reading, please let the
writer know you did! Click the "Comments" button at the end to type
feedback, or click the "Kudos" button to be counted as a reader
leaving kudos... or both! (You don't need to be a member to share
your thoughts, and "I read your story; thanks for sharing" can be
enough to warm a fanfic writer's heart and inspire a new story.)

For more information on this annual FK game, see us at:

It is a blast to be playing FK again!

As long as my situation allows (or a substitute can be found), we
will play again in 2013, yes. Glad you're excited!

I wasn't going to mention this until after this year's game, but I
have AO3 invites for anyone who wants to play in next year's game and
doesn't already have an account. Contact me off-list, and we'll get
you set up. *No rush.* ;-)

Of course, the game works best when we have many players! While 13
players this year has been fun, the "exchange" aspect of the game was
more challenging than with the 20+ players in each of the past two
years. When we have many players, it's easy to put someone who likes
writing N&Ner romance with someone who likes reading it. If we have
few players, a Knightie may have to write a prompt submitted by a
Cousin, with all the angst that entails. :-)

Well, on some of the longer faction lists, there are *two* couple factions
listed for Nick and Vachon, the Heartbreakers and the NightHaven (or Night
Haven). For example, the Forever Knight Faction Guide (once an AOL
Homepage, but now only on the Wayback Machine) lists:
    - Heartbreakers --fans of Nick and Vachon; see also Night Havens
and
    - Night Havens --fans of Nick and Vachon; see also Heartbreakers
which is the sort of thing that is *so* helpful in telling them apart!

The NightHaven (aka Night Haven) were apparently founded 7 January 1999 by
Elfin and Javiette.

On Wed, 14 Feb 2001, with war pending, Brenda Bell posted a list of factions
to FORKNI-L. She listed Nick-Vachon among the couple factions but couldn't
remember their name. So Cloud chipped in:
(Nick+Vachon) Night Haven is Nick *with* Vachon
                                     Heartbreakers is Nick *and* Vachon
The wording there is a tad obscure. But when Brenda repeated the list on 6
Jun 2001 she wrote them
            Night Haven (Nick/Vachon)
            Heartbreakers (Nick *and* Vachon)
So clearly, at that time, the two were seen as different factions, taking
different approaches to the relationship between the two men.

I can't help wondering why the second faction was created if there already
existed the Heartbreakers, especially given Katrinka's description:
    > We like Nick and Vachon together. As friends? Why not? As more then
friends? Sure, why not?
I mean, that definitely covers slash as well as gen! On the other hand, the
UF ostensibly covers all approaches to a relationship between Nick and
Lacroix; and that didn't stop the CotK from being formed. Maybe Elfin and
Javiette felt that the Heartbreakers were too gen-oriented?

Are there no NightHavens on list any more? It would be kind of nice to hear
from *them* about the creation of their faction.

I'm wondering what fanfic was written with a "Heartbreakers" label. Did
the Heartbreakers ever have a list? Or a website to archive their fanfic?
There *is* a NightHaven Fiction Site
(http://www.sundive.co.uk/foreverknight/lfic.htm). Some of the stories are
Nick/Vachon, and others are Nick/Vachon/Lacroix (which ought to be a
trinity faction in its own right, if you ask me).

Boy, the next war's going to be *massive*, isn't it?
