Subject: Factions that don't exist - Bourbon

Of Vachon's pals, the only one whom we saw on screen who doesn't have a
faction is Bourbon. Although it is not technically canon, the original
description of the "Lost Boys" indicates that he is supposed to have been a
Musketeer in France in the 17th or 18th centuries, and hence probably minor
nobility, before being brought across.

What do you think is the best name for a faction for Bourbon? The House of
Bourbon? The Bourbons? The Musketeers? Other ideas?

I've got an icon made for his affiliation, with a space just begging for a
name to put in it.

Would people mind if I repurpose an old, short-lived name for Tracy's
faction, the Vetterans (now better known as the Perks). I've made an icon
for an affiliation for Tracy's mother and father, Barbara and Richard
Vetter, and her relationship with them. "Vetterans" does seem to me to be
the perfect name for a Vetter faction.

I would have said The Bourbons was his faction...so it is what I would vote

for.

Rolls off my tongue in a pleasing way.
    It would get my vote.

Third question: should there be a faction for Divia's mother, Selene?

So far, Andrew has suggested the Selenoids. Along similar lines would be
the Selenians or Selenites. However, the name "Selene" is that of a moon
goddess: perhaps the faction could be the Moon Goddesses or the Lunas
(Latin for "moon")? Also, it was apparently mentioned in the script for "A
More Permanent Hell" that she was supposed to be the madam of a brothel.
It's not canon, since it was not officially in the episode itself; but
people do often assume it when mentioning her in stories. That might be
worked into a faction name somehow.

Any inspirations?

Subject: Factions that don't exist

A while back I asked if there were faction names that simply sounded "right"
to people, even though--from a technical perspective--no such affiliation
actually exists. After all, every faction has to start somewhere; and it's
incredibly obvious that, once upon a time, new little factions were being
inspired right, left, and centre.

Some names were promptly proposed. We voted, and chose the Blackwings for
Marian Blackwing. Brenda came up with the PotM for the Nick & Schanke
faction; Andrew offered the Sweet Alyssums for Alyssa; and (among other
people's suggestions), Liz the Lucky invented the Sparklers for Spark. Toss
in a few that I thought of myself, add April's Andreivitchs and Artful
Dodgers, hunt out the Women Scorned and AlmaDens from days gone by....

In fact, at this point, I've posted icons for most of these and already made
icons for the rest. To these, one can add the Blue Knighties, the
Jenny-Poos, the History Buffs, and the LambKins, all of whose icons you can
expect to see in the near future.

But there are other characters yet factionless. How about:

        Qa'ra (Ancients, Ancient Ones, Qa'ranians?)
        Serena (the UnSerenes, Serenities, Cross-Dressers?)
        Francesca (Francescans? Reincarnates?)
        Alyce Hunter (Alycians? Archaeologists?)
Pierre Rochefort (the Priests, the Confessors?)

        Larry Merlin
        Briana
Angel, the vampire who brought Vachon & the Inca across
        Ellen/Monica/Jacqueline
Mai Tung Wa, the Chinese acupuncturist
        Joan of Arc
        Lisa Cooper
Patrick McDonagh (or his father, Robert)
        Emily Weiss

Norma Alves, the computer tech at the 27th precinct
        Officer Lipinski
        Bridget Hellman
        Bruce Spencer
        Eddie, the morgue attendant

In fact, I seem to recall someone wondering whether there was a faction for
the duck lamp. (Or was it the moose pyjamas?)

A few suggestions:

Larry Merlin - The Hackers
Ellen/Monica/Jacqueline - The Triple Threats
Joan of Arc - The Messengers
Emily Weiss - The Denied (obviously :P)

Subject: Selene in the script

Selene _is_ the madam of a brothel. I have a copy of the script, although I
have no idea where it is at present. According to the scene information at
the beginning of the flashback, the whole of the flashback is set in a
brothel and the girls are called prostitutes.

Also, iI think her name was spelled Selina, but can't be sure. The old
gray mare's memory ain't what it used to be. <g>

I remember commenting at the time that her costume could be the red toga
that Roman law required prostitutes to wear.
