WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 17th (2) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 00:57:05 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: WAR: Die-Hards: summary for October 7th (revised) Yes, that really is a WAR heading. I've been putting off posting the rest of the Die-Hards' war summaries because I hoped that Chanda would be able to finish her story arc. Alas, the first time I e-mailed her, she was still trying to break in her new computer. (You may recall that her old computer crashed only a day or so before the end of the War.) Well, I've heard nothing from her since; so I suspect that--with the War so long over--the impetus to write the missing story or two disappeared. So here we are. This post updates the summary for October 7th with Chanda's last story (#5 here). I will then post the other missing summaries. -- Greer WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 7th 1) Title: Playing War Seriously Author: Greer Watson Time: from the evening of October 6th to the evening of October 7th Greer explains that her mother is going to be going off to a conference on Friday, so she'll be able to spend more time at the HQ. She finds that her sister wants her to beta a story she has just written in another fandom they share. She does this the following morning. Then she has to go shopping for condolence cards. She returns home to a phone call from Feliks Twist, who-- like all the other characters--has just lost his clothes. He wants her to go to the Raven to pick up a case of bottled blood for him. It is therefore well into the afternoon before Greer gets to Die- Hard HQ. Don has spent the day checking the IDs for all the workmen putting in the new security systems. Chanda and Teresa have not been around at all. 2) Title: To the Raven Author: Chanda Keith Time: October 7th, wee hours Chanda is woken up by a call from Janette, who has lost all her clothes. She and Teresa rush over to the Raven, appalled. They discuss who might be responsible, and decide that the Knighties and NNPack are the likeliest culprits. Chanda tells Janette that she will investigate. 3) Title: CSI: Caddy Author: Chanda Keith Time: October 7th, morning Chanda has a ploy to get past the Knighties to see if they used the Caddy as a getaway vehicle. She calls the local mental home, and tells them that Knightie Katrinka is an escaped patient. Then she sends in her cat, Pinky, who hates rabbits, to flush her out. Katrinka, with her dream-cursed bunny ears, rushes out into the street, where she is nabbed. The other Knighties rush out to rescue her; and Chanda is able to search the Caddy, where she finds some black strands of material. 4) Title: CSI: Phase Two and a Feline Fashion Victim Author: Chanda Keith Time: October 7th, morning Chanda goes to the NNPack Farmer's Market, and realizes that things are so chaotic that she can look in their bus without anyone suspecting her. However, although she sees some strands of black material inside, she dares not go in the bus to check them out. She does, however, manage to hoick out a romantic NNPack story someone has left on the seat. Returning to her car, she finds Natalie's cat, Sydney there. 5) Title: Helping the Fashion Victim and Looking for Clothes Author: Chanda Keith Time: October 7th, and just after midnight October 8th Chanda takes Sydney to the Raven and reports to Janette on her CSI findings. Janette is appalled by the horrible collar that Sydney is wearing, and throws it out. She also burns the NNPack story that Chanda has purloined. She is pleased, though, when Chanda describes all the traps she has brought to protect the Raven, lest the thief return. After setting them, she returns to search the NNPack HQ, careful to remove every romantic story she discovers, replacing them either with copies of classic fan fiction by Susan Garrett or copies of "Cri de Coeur", an early Immortal Beloveds story. She does not, however, find any evidence that the NNPack are the thieves. She therefore goes back to Die-Hard HQ with Sydney (now dressed in a fine new collar). Don is not amused--though somewhat placated when Chanda assures him that she will return the cat the next day. During the night, though, one of her traps is set off. The clothing thief has struck again; and all of Chanda's clothes are missing, except what she has on. Even worse, Sydney was caught by the trap: his rear and tail drip with green dye. Desperately, Chanda calls Janette. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 00:59:26 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: WAR: Die-Hards: Summaries for October 8th and October 9th WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 8th 1) Title: Ask Not for Whom the Board Groans, It Groans for *You* Author: Greer Watson Time: October 8th, most of the day Don spends the day supervising security improvements, while Teresa hunts through the library--joined mid-morning by Greer, after she's seen her mother off to the airport. It dawns on the others that this means that Greer will be on her own on Thanksgiving; and they are so upset that she offers to cook the Die-Hards a Thanksgiving meal. However, by evening, so many things have been tacked onto the menu by people who want to help, that Don suggests that they turn it into a feast for all the factions. ******************* WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 9th 1) Title: This Little Piggy Went to Market Author: Greer Watson Time: October 9th, all day Greer goes shopping at St. Lawrence Market, among other places, for all the things needed for Thanksgiving Dinner. She gets back to find that Teresa and Chanda have found a clue in the library--not to the thief's identity, but to the existence of a spell that might be able to protect the HQ against further incursions. Everyone spends the afternoon searching. Don then calls quits, because he wants to go to Oktoberfest. As he tries to convince the others to go too, Ron the Enforcer comes in: he's lost all his clothes but his long johns, and used a sheet as a toga. Don has to go to Oktoberfest on his own. 2) Title: Dude, Where's My Clothes? Author: Ron the Enforcer Time: October 9th, early evening Ron wakes up to find his clothes missing. He's quite good-humoured about it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 01:01:26 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 12th WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 12th 1) Title: Plots and Counterplots Author: Greer Watson Time: October 12th, shortly after midnight (after the Thanksgiving dinner in "Dinner at the Die-Hards' (Part Three)") After the party, Greer takes the TTC home, amusing herself on the journey by speculating whether another faction might attack the Die-Hards that night to get the magic formula, and--if so--what the consequences might be. 2) Title: Through the ITOWverse...and What Greer Found There Author: Greer Watson Time: October 12th (after "Plots and Counterplots") Note: the solution to the problem appears with the permission of the WarMistress. Greer gets home so tired that she forgets to take the precaution of going to bed fully clothed. Inevitably, she wakes up to find the clothing-thief has struck, leaving her with literally nothing to wear. However, she solves her dilemma by travelling through "the interfictional dimensions" to the Community Clubhouse for a LiveJournal-based fandom to which she belongs. Her sister is also a member, and meets her there with a suitcase of clothes. When her mother gets home that afternoon, she doesn't notice. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 01:04:08 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 13th-15th & Summary for October 16th WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 13th to 15th 1) Title: That which was Lost has been Found Author: Greer Watson Time: October 13th to 15th Teresa loses her clothes on the 13th. No one has the heart to continue searching for a way to protect Die-Hard Headquarters. However, on the 15th, all the clothes are mysteriously returned. Don announces that, the next day, before everyone goes home, the UF will be holding a party at the Hive. *********** WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 16th 1) Title: Going to the M.E.T. Author: Greer Watson Time: October 16th, morning & afternoon In the morning, Greer is picked up at home by two of the NNatPackers, Michelle and Susan, and the three of them go to the Miniature Enthusiasts of Toronto (M.E.T.) show, which is being held at the Japanese Cultural Centre, only a couple of doors away from Die-Hard Headquarters. After browsing around the dolls' house miniatures in the sale room, they go to the HQ for lunch, with the result that Don and Chanda join them for the afternoon. What's more, they find that McLisa has also decided to go to the show. Everyone has a wonderful time, and buys rather more than they really can afford. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 01:14:12 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 17th I have no idea if The Royal We (i.e. our yet anonymous War Mistress) is still looking at mail sent to wm13@jumo.com, so I'm going to put this message here. You asked us to contact you if we had any corrections for the posts already on the War site. You don't have all the Die-Hards' stories up. I don't just mean the later ones--for the website hasn't been updated in quite a while, and is far from complete--but at least one of the earlier ones is also missing. I think it's one that was accidentally posted to FORKNI-L rather than FKFIC-L (and, if I recall correctly, there's a later one that was posted there as well). I do hope that you do intend to complete the website. It's our only archive for War 13, after all; and it would be a pity if that War were not preserved along with the earlier ones. Okay, I've put my own posts up on my own site (as people often did in earlier wars); but that's not at all the same as having a central archive for the whole war. -- Greer ********** WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 17th 1) Title: Lost in the Toronto Triangle Author: Greer Watson Time: October 16, night; and October 17, late morning The UF party breaks up late; and, as the designated driver, Greer drives all the Die-Hards back to the HQ before heading home. The following day, she returns to find that Chanda has already departed for home. After seeing Teresa off, Don and Greer discuss when (and whether) there might ever be another War. Don is appalled by Greer's mathematically-based prognostications: if things continue as they've been going, War 14 could be in ten years time. 2) Title: Never Say Die Author: Greer Watson Time: October 17, late afternoon After Don leaves, Greer sticks around to say goodbye to Ron the Enforcer. 3) Title: Postscriptum Author: Greer Watson Time: some time after the War Stonetree, Cohen, and Reese are in the bar of the Jewelled Peach discussing the War from *their* perspective. Reese--who had to cope with the near-riot outside CERK--has a particularly jaundiced view of events. It is revealed that the curse extended to *all* characters in the show, including guests and bit players. The mysterious plague of stolen clothes had been very disruptive. Nevertheless, all the captains agree that it's their job to keep a lid on the trouble caused by War so it all stays out of the news. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2011 01:20:27 -0500 From: Shelley <shelley721@v.......> Subject: Re: WAR: Die-Hards: Summary for October 17th Hi, I'm doing the archiving, but unfortunately, real life got in the way (including a catastrophic computer crash). I'm having minor surgery tomorrow, but I promise I will get back to it after that. I do have to see if I can recover my copy of the posts from the crashed computer first though, so feel free to send things to me at this address (shelley721@v.......) if they haven't shown up. Please put "Archive" in the subject line so I don't lose them! -Shelley -----Original Message----- From: Greer Watson Sent: Friday, January 07, 2011 1:14 AM To: FORKNI-L@l.......
