Hello again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 26 Nov 2010 20:26:10 -0800 From: Janice Cox <janicecox1@l.......> Subject: <No subject given> And a belated Happy Thanksgiving from me, too. FK really introduced me into online fandom, and I have a lot of fond memories of the people on this list. I hope the holiday season finds you all well! Janice Cox > I said this in a post to the UF, and I wanted to say it here too. > > One think I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving is that I got online in '98, and found the FK Fandom, the Unnaned Faction and Fandom in general. I've met some great people, some online, some in person, and made some great friends. > > Happy Thanksgiving, to all celebrating. To those not observing, have a great Thursday. > > Laurie of the Isles ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 2010 08:24:21 -0700 From: Angela Gottfred <agottfre@t.......> Subject: Hello again I've belonged to the list for years, but I haven't posted much for quite a while. In fact, I actually let my membership lapse for a brief period recently. However, I resubbed for a couple of reasons. First, I gave a friend the Dresden Files DVDs for Christmas last year, and he finally got around to watching them this summer. He loved the series - he's a fan of the books - but was quite disappointed that the series ended after only one season. My husband suggested I lend him my FK DVDs and he's really enjoying the show! So I started watching FK again. It's really cool to watch the show after not seeing it for several years. I have to admit that I was afraid it would *ahem* suck. Not that it was bad back then, but this is (eek!) almost 20 years later, and viewer expectations have changed. I have to say that I am constantly being pleasantly surprised. The writing is pretty darn good! That Kapelos guy can really act! And Disher and Wyn Davies and Duchene - definitely not bad at all. In fact, Janette steals just about every scene for me. My friend loves watching LaCroix - he's never seen a villain quite like him, I think. Last night, I saw "Amateur Night" and "The Fix". I have a passing acquaintance with the role of the expert advisor (some friends have done this), similar to Schanke in Amateur Night, so it is pretty cool to see this role in a TV show. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen it highlighted this clearly on TV, although SG-1 does have nods to their RL experts on a few occasions. Of course, it's all a play-within-a-play, since FK is more realistic than some cop shows, but still not 100% accurate (even once you remove the whole vampire angle). And The Fix, of course, was a total riot. Especially the spaghetti scene. And the scene with Nick and Schanke on the beach, where Schanke notices there's something different about Nick but can't put his finger on it? Reminds me of when my husband shaved off his beard, which he had had for decades, and everyone noticed something had changed - and figured he had new glasses!! But I also picked up on things that I'd manage to miss - like the fact that Nick managed to successfully fight a new addiction. Sorry I missed the latest war, but I'm having a lot of fun watching the show once again. Oh, and the other reason that I resubbed? A fellow World of Warcraft player mentioned that she was also an FK fan. /wave Your humble & obedient servant, Angela Gottfred ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 25 Nov 2010 to 27 Nov 2010 (#2010-21) **************************************************************
