Subject: War: Preferred War Length?

There has been some discussion on list about the length that Wars have been
in the past. So let me reintroduce everyone to our very own encyclopedia of
all things FK, to wit, the Forever Knight Wiki. Which has stuff on the
Wars. Admittedly, not everything (and that includes not all dates).
However, we do have the following info:

- War One took place in January 1994. Exact length not recorded in the
archive.
- War Two ran from 3 July 1994 to 19 July 1994, i.e. 17 days (but only a few
posts were made on the first and last day)
- War Three was held Oct-Nov 1994, but it gets more complicated: the first
post was made 6 October 1994 with the last official post arriving sometime
around 14 November; but it officially is recorded as beginning on Oct 14th
and running to Nov 2nd. Also, it had a week-long hiatus in the middle.
This sort of throws the count off.
- War Four seems to have taken place at the beginning of 1995, but the
archived posts are undated.
- War Five ran from 27 October 1995 to 20 November 1995 (plus a few late
posts), i.e. 25 days.
- War Six is the War that wasn't a War.
- War Seven ran from 27 July 1996 to 12 August 1996, i.e. 17 days.
- War Eight ran from 13 June 1997 to 28 June 1997, i.e. 16 days.
- War Nine ran from 25 April to 12 May 1998, i.e. 18 days.
- War Ten ran from 13 August 1999 to 27 August 1999, i.e. 15 days.
- War Eleven ran from 5 to 19 July in 2001, i.e. 15 days.
- War Twelve ran from 8 November to 22 November 2004, i.e. 15 days.

In the case of the "longer" Wars, there may have been hiatus weeks that
haven't got into the records--though people will have known about it at the
time, of course. Basically, by the last few Wars, the length seems to have
got standardized as two weeks. Two *full* weeks (or quinze jours as the
French say), including the first and last days of the fortnight.

Make of this what you will.

There are 14 in total - I'll send two or three a day so nobody get's

Disclaimer: These are not official War rules - but they are a great

WAR TRAINING SESSION - post 13

Revenge Planning Post (continued)

The Cousins have a plan for a counter-attack. It's time to contact
the DPs and set up a time and permission.

We'd like to set up a counter attack. We're going to break in and
replace all the soda, water, and coffee with hypercaffeinated products
so that you'll all burn out and won't be dangerous for a while.

LOL! Sounds GREAT! I love it. We can work with this

What about Tuesday evening? We've gotta take our turn on the Tracy
Patrol (looking for Tracy). You can probably get in then . . . .

Good!

Tuesday evening is good for us. Prepare to be attacked!

*************

You notice how the Cousin Leader gives details of the attack? This is
because the attack will affect how the DPs act! This will help the
DPs write themselves as very hyper. Imagine SUPER-perky.

Scary, isn't it?

Now, permission has been granted!

You've seen this part of the action--
* the Cousin Leader takes the news to the loop
* they discuss the attack
* someone is assigned to write the post
* the post is written and approved by the loop
* the post is sent to the War: topic and the Dark Perks find out how
they've been attacked.

This is war.

What's going to happen after that?

What if the Dark Perks don't notice that their regular choices have
been replaced by the ultra-caffeinated products? What if instead of
burning them out, their DP constitutions THRIVE on the stuff and they
become even more anxious and antsy for action? What if the Cousins'
plan backfires?

That can happen.

This is war.

WAR TRAINING SESSION - post 14

Wrap-Up

So, that's war. Or one way to play war. There are as many ways to
play war as there are people who play in the war.

Every affiliation is different. Some are ultra-organized and have
everything scheduled down to the last detail, while others are more
easy-going.

Usually, you just go along and have a great time plotting attacks,
reacting, and then plotting counter attacks.

*What happens if I don't like the way my affiliation is acting, I
don't agree with the decisions made by the loop and the loop leader,
etc.? Well, it all depends. If you think they're being
unreasonable, take a second look. Think about your own position.
Then make a decision.

You have three choices --

1. Compromise and hope you can get your own way later.
2. Go your own way and play as an independent with leanings toward
that affiliation, join a sub-group for that affiliation, or join
another affiliation entirely (to change affiliations in mid-war,
you'll need permission from the War Mistress before switching sides).
3. Quit the war.

The by-word for the war is COMMUNICATION, always remember that. War
is supposed to be fun. When it stops being fun, stop playing. It's
the gray area, when trouble arises, that can make the difference
between war being fun again and you dropping out entirely or causing
someone else to drop out.

If you screw up, make a mistake, or do something stupid--APOLOGIZE!
It's not hard, it doesn't cost you anything, and will gain good will
and better feeling. Hopefully, if someone else screws up, they'll do
the same. If they don't, pretend that they had and carry on.

Remember, you're playing to make friends and learn about people, not
make enemies . . . or serious enemies, anyway.

On your mark, get set, start plotting!

Have fun. Play fair. And have a great war!

exercise, please feel free to address them to the following:
