I want to thank my fellow list sibs for sharing their memories of Susan Garrett.
I don't have any experiences of Susan, or even much with her fiction, but I am
learning so much from reading the outpouring of memories people are sharing.

My condolences to her family, friends, and FK family,

I was shocked to see this (via Gaylin's FB page.) I didn't know Susan at all, I
had never met her, but I must say that her death is a terrible loss to our
community.

My take on it is not that you have to give the vampire master consent, but that
the choice comes at the crossroads of life and death. Urs explicitly did not
want to be made a vampire, nor did Serena in "Baby Baby".

There are so many wonderful thoughts and memories being posted here about
Susan. I too didn't know her, but feel as if I have learned so much about
her, and missed a great deal with not meeting her.

Can someone who is in contact with the family possibly copy the posts from
the server, and forward them to her family? I'm sure they would enjoy
reading all the wonderful posts about a special lady.

What a shock! Susan wrote the very first fanfic I ever read, and opened the
world of fandom for me. My very first fic was written to celebrate her birthday
in 1994. She was gracious and helpful to a timid newbie. Later, when I was
putting together my first fanzine (Shadows and Roses) she kindly sent me all
sorts of information on how to do it, based on her very extensive experience.

I actually met her at the two Gertherings I attended. I remember especially her
dramatic reading of "Nighty-Night, Nick," her delightful illustrated bedtime
tale for all us grown-up kids, while we waited for Ger to arrive.

Her enthusiasm and talent as a writer were notable, and set the bar very high
for all the other fanfic writers who expanded the FK world for us. She will be
sorely missed.

Nighty-night, Susan. Rest in peace.

Susan did so much for the fandom, purely for the enjoyment of doing
it. She was a mainstay of the fandom. Even though she didn't
participate in the Forkni-l list that much recently, every now and then
something would pop up from her, and it always made me feel good to know
that she was still here. I will miss her.

I was so shocked to hear the news. I am just back from vacation and did not
 have email access.

Susan, besides being the best writer was the kindest person I met. We spent
many cons and Gertherings together and I am richer from the experience. I
felt a great sadness on hearing the news and wish all who knew her my
sincerest condolences.

I caught the new episode of Criminal Minds Sunday night.
The "villian" was a musician who stage-persona was a vampire.
The character's "real name": Paul Davies.
I'm not inclined to think that was a co-incidence.

Like others, I am shocked and saddened by this news-- I'd heard she was ill,
but didn't realize the severity of it. I didn't know her personally, although
I thoroughly enjoyed her stories, and so there is nothing for me to say but to
add my voice of sorrow to the chorus and my deepest condolences to those
already streaming to her family and friends.

Only the good die young, and you were among the best, Susan. May you
find only peace and joy in your new home.

When I first went looking for FK fanfic, it was Susan's stories that
caught my eye. She became a "celebrity" to me and then I met Susan at
the first Gerthering I attended in Phoenix. She was gracious, generous,
down to earth and a whole lotta fun! I don't have the privelege of
counting her among my close friends but I will always remember her. My
condolences to her family and friends.

Like many other list members, I saw Susan several times at fan
conventions, a Gerthering, and during her book tour. She was among
the best fanfic writers and I remember how thrilled everyone was that she was
chosen to write one of the authorized novels.

Perhaps my favorite memory of her was when, after her book signing,
she had dinner with another Forkni
list member and myself. It was at that time that she told a very
funny story about her then job in New Jersey.

RIP Susan, you will be missed.

There are two I've never forgotten.

1. The time the local police had just gotten WordPerfect, and Susan was the help
peron. They kept complaining they'd lost text, and only got a blank screen.
After she went there to investigate, she explained to them that it wasn't a good
idea to select white text and white background in the same document. :)

2. The other was the time the same police had to call a repairman for the
copier. One of them had his gun out and had accidentally shot the machine. At
least, he said it was an accident.")
