I've switched over to gmail because yahoo was giving me fits last summer, but didn't switch the FKlists until now... I also vote "no skunks", please. I'd be very concerned about using Twitter for WAR planning and talk... it is not merely public, but also publicly archived (unlike IRC). I've been reading how some folks' tweets have come back to haunt them. OTOH, I haven't been on EFNET for years (I remember a shakeup in the servers that I couldn't get past), so I don't know whether IRC is still a viable environment for real-time planning (or if AIM's or Yahoo Chat's ability to support group chat rooms is any better). Subject: Re: OT: Twitter? As far as I know, you can't create Yahooo chat rooms that limit who can or cant enter like in the "good old days". If there is a room, anyone can enter with no permission needed - there is no group membership requirement. The closest we have found is a group IM. But this entails someone inviting others into the chat. We continued our FK nightly chat group this way for several years. You have to appoint one person as the "inviter". Then others wanting to join in have to contact that person and ask to be invited into the group IM. The link is http://www.foreverknight.org/fkchat You do have to create an account as I want to make sure to control outsiders. Anyone can create a room *and* make it *private*. Whoever creates the room becomes its moderator and controls it. There is a menu that shows up for owners (operators) called Room cp. The owner can make it use passwords or not, limit the number of people, can make the room last forever instead of it automatically deleting itself after everyone leaves. (The problem with that is that the owner is the only one that can kick someone off, etc so if the owner isn't there then there is no one can control it unless the owner picks an alternate operator (op list) under "Room CP" ) If it does expire, then whenever a new room needs to be created for a get together, then whoever creates it at that time can then control it. Go check it out to see if works for whatever you want. Hi- Havent really posted on the list in a while. I've been lurking. Lately I've been getting back into the fandom. I have been doing some massive cleanout the past few months and apparently managed to get rid of my Black Harbour vhs tapes (not that I have a vcr anymore to watch them, but...) Anyhoo... does anyone have the eps on disc or on their computer? Or knows where I can watch it. I have tried the major online sites like Hulu and youtube only seems to have the opening credits. I'd really love to watch this show again. I'll gladly reimburse you for shipping or discs. Listserv It doesn't like my phrasing when I try to give the command to set topics for someone other than myself. An SOS has been sent to Don. In the meantime, I'm not ignoring you, just waiting for reinforcement. :) McLIsa mclisa@m....... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jul 2010 16:47:26 -0400 From: Lisa McDavid <mclisa@m.......> Subject: Remembering the list hampsters [sic] We used to have a regular routine on Forkni-l, whenever we had problems with the listserv. We blamed it on the list hampsters. The reference and the spelling came from the joke script pages for Last Knight which were written to cheer up the cast and of which we'd gotten a copy. So, everytime I see the Kia commercial on tv where the entire street scene, with hamsters driving all sorts of things as well as cars, plus a hamster rapper, I think of the listhampsters. :) McLIsa mclisa@m....... ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 24 Jul 2010 to 25 Jul 2010 (#2010-133) ***************************************************************
