I always thought I was bad luck or something, since I joined the list in late 1995, shortly before FK was cancelled on USA. I have fond memories of printing out digests on the dot matrix printer in the campus computer lab in college. :) Lisa K. I've never heard about it. (Maybe because in the summer/fall of 2005, I was going through some medical stuff and couldn't get on the computer.) Subject: FK at conventions No one has mentioned 'Bridging the Knight' which was in my opinion a Forever Knight convention. It was held not long after the show's cancellation and was a charity fundraising auction of the show's props. That's how I acquired The Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed and my first copy of Greg Kramer's "The Pursemonger of Fugu." I say "first" as I've ended up with other copies over the years though I tend to donate those for charity auctions. Another item I really wanted was Screed's knife/mini-sword. I actually talked to the guy who won it. To my surprise, it ended up on eBay a few years ago and some fantastic friends here bought if for me! Greg doesn't recall Screed using a knife but that's what it is dubbed and I keep forgetting to pull out the DVDs to see for sure. An irony of the convention is that a woman was there who lived not far from me but we didn't meet until quite a while after Bridging the Knight! I also value the friendships I've made not only e-wise but in person from Forkni-L. I've vacationed with a number of you and have had a blast at sci fi conventions with even more. One of my professionally published comic book stories was a Forever Knight parody (SFA's "Atomic Mouse #2" features the story with artwork by Joe Staton). The show took me to Toronto which I fell in love with. I've met many of the actors - Ger when another list member and I just happened to walk past him on our way to a theater to see Lisa Ryder! If I remember I'll e-mail Greg "Screed" Kramer to see what he's up to this summer. I know he's busy with several things but am not sure if he's acting or directing. As for me, I'm in a production of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and just got home from a cast party so forgive me if this post doesn't make sense! As a sidenote, I'll once again be a guest at 'FenCon' in the Dallas, Texas area in September. I haven't checked the guest list but am pretty sure PN Elrod (Nigel's co-author) will be there as well: http://www.fencon.org/ Oh! And please note I've legally changed my last name back to my maiden one so future writings will be as Libby A. Smith. ;-)! --Libby Keeper of the Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jul 2010 06:52:07 -0700 From: fkforever <fkforever@y.......> Subject: Re: Ye Olden Days These posts are bringing back some great FK memories. I joined the list in late 1997, when I purchased my first home computer. And one of the first thing I found was the FK Fandom !!! YAH!!! I remember days when my inbox was so full of main list and yahoo group posts that it would take 2 hrs read them. And the WARS!!! They were so much fun. I participated in a few. There were so many posts... it was hard to keep up. GOOD TIMES!!! Most online fandoms are dead within 10 yrs of the show's cancellation. NOT OURS.. the dedication of our membership is wonderful and nearly unprecedented. There are almost no fandoms that compare to ours. The only examples I can really think of are Star Trek and Dr. Who and they are a dynasty unto themselves. We first got on the Internet in November of 1995, and that's when I found FK fandom on-line. I think the first War I participated in was #4, and every one after that, including the "War" to save the show. When I first found FORKNI-L, I had to go to digest, as there were so many posts per day! I think they generated a good 3 to 4 digests, and I read every single one. I spent my days on the computer reading posts from this list. It was wonderful! Then, of course, there was the heyday of writing fanfic. I was reading and writing so much I really didn't get off the computer except to eat and sleep. LOL!! I do miss the "good old days", but I'm so pleased that the list is still here and still managing to putter along. Thanks to Greer and others for their archiving of the fandom, and for sparking this thread of conversation. It's good to see the list get active again, and to hear from folks I haven't heard from in ages. Nat ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Nancy A.
