Let's all contemplate the insanity of that...and now I'll relate it to vampirism: well, I'm a woman and the vampire who brought ME across was a MAN! (giggle) * I"ve always loved this episode for its brave take on curing a disease that targeted an unpopular 'species.'* <I'm amazed that I never thought of this -- thanks for pointing it out!> I'm delighted at this late date to have brought a fresh insight to the list. I very nearly didn't join because I thought everything I could possibly think of to offer had surely already been said, thought, hashed out, denied, argued about, and haggled through. *Yes! No wonder Nick thought so, because he doesn't see that he doesn't need to atone for his sins. Under even the medieval Christianity he still seems to believe, _snip- absolution from a priest denies the omnipotence of God. It canbe construed as setting himself up in God's place.* Fair enough, but since it's a basic premise for the series I'm not certain the show could have gone on without Nick's angst...he had to suffer and believe he was lost so he could continue to search for a cure and for his salvation. << NOTE: <putting on listowner hat> When the show was on the air, we discussed this. I was very proud of us for doing so without bursting into flames or disrespecting each other's views. We can do it again if anyone wants to take this up. I know we can.>> Sure, why not? I may not agree with your ideas but I'll defend them to the death and beyond!! >>I've heard that when Ger knew they were going to be cancelled, he went to The Powers That Be and asked that FK be allowed to >.do what they'd wanted before TPTB tried to change the show's whole ethos. Maybe the details I heard aren't quite right, but it's >>true that they were allowed to do controvery because of the pending cancellation. No doubt. He truly had a lot to do with making the series as great as it was. Some of their best work was in the last few episodes. Ah, FK, we hardly knew ye. >>Of course there are those of us who think Last Night can be interpreted other than that LC staked Nick. One idea is that Nat >>was brought across. She must have made LC think _Nick's_ rebellion was a walk in the moonlight by comparison. :) Yes, she would have been quite the handful. LC HAD to bring her across, otherwise Nick's promise to her was broken. She would have been miffed with Nick as well...but others more skilled than I have dealt with that in fanfic. Not the first of Nick's messes he's cleared away...or created? How she would have enriched the vampire race. <sigh> Mona ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 1 Jan 2010 to 2 Jan 2010 (#2010-2) ***********************************************************
