Subject: Audio interview with Ger

A site called Sci-Fi TV Zone has a 12 minute audio interview with Geraint Wyn Davies.

http://scifitvzone.com/2009/11/21/forever-knight-exclusive-audio-interview-with-geraint-wyn-davies/

In it he briefly discusses:
--the format for his role in the Chiller Forever Knight marathon "it's
casual and very tongue in cheek",
--memories of the show "I remember laughing a lot" and "it was a joyful
experience but it screwed up my sleep patterns for a couple of years",
--his thoughts on Nick Knight "we invested a lot of humor in it as well as the
hyper drama",
--the shift in the show's tone in the 3rd season and how it affected the
natural progression of Nick' character and the loss of John Kapelos and
the Schanke character.
--Classically trained actors and their ability to pull of vampires.
--Recent but gone shows "one Canadian [Blood Ties] and one down here
[Moonlight]" that took a page from the Forever Knight playbook,
--The current vampire craze "That's what Forever Knight was, someone tossing
a rock into the middle of the pond and now we're hitting the shore", and
--his current Dylan Thomas one man play in NYC.

It was nice interview. I can't wait till Tuesday!

Subject: Another Ger interview & a little something extra

The Chiller Blog has a nice and extensive with Ger.

http://blog.chillertv.com/mikesblog/

There's lots of good stuff in it like Ger's introduction to directing, the
Geminis, and how Ger originally got the role of Nick. I love this quote
on the awful looking flying from the first season: "We had to develop
our own goofy way of flying. In the first episodes, they hung me from a
crane on a wire 80 feet above the ground and I'd be like a guppy trying
to flap. It was really embarrassing."

He also said this about the cast: "We had the best time working on the series
-- we laughed on Forever Knight as much as anyone has on a series. I think
that's what makes the show work. There's a "play" in it -- the whole cast had
a theater background and everyone knew how to step up...except when John
Kapelos and I worked together. Then, we were laughing too hard. We were lucky
to have that balance -- a testament to Jim Parriot and everyone else who cast
us. A tight-knit group of people to work with."

And a there's also this little extra if you go here:
http://www.chillertv.com/foreverknight/

It's a collage that simulates a cork message board. In the center is the
recipe for Ribena. Surrounding it are the covers to Susan M. Garrett's
"Intimations of Mortality" and Susan Sizemore's "A Stirring of Dust". The
covers to P.N. Elrod and Nigel's "His Father's Son" and "Siege Perilous" are
there as well.

There are a couple of other "clippings" on the corkboard but I'm not sure how
they're related to FK, if at all. There's a map of Europe, an obscured mug
shot, two pairs of eyes hidden in a photograph of tall grass and a school
picture of a young boy. I thought it was pretty neat.

Here's the run down for FK on Chiller channel.

Tuesday, tomorrow, 8:00 pm to 4:00 am, 8 shows.

Wednesday, 11/25/09, 8:00 pm to 4:00 am, 8 shows.

Saturday, 11/28/09, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, 6 shows.

I did notice that Chiller mixed up the order of the shows. 'Dark Knight'
is in the middle somewhere. But I'm happy to get them on in any order.
So if you could take a minute and let Chiller know we appreciate them
showing FK and we would like more.
The petition will be sent to them.

Thanks for your help and enjoy the show.

Subject: Chiller marathon/NY Times FK mention

The following popped up in today's New York Times:

The Chiller channel brings back "Forever Knight," the
cult-favorite Canadian series that ran as part of CBS's "Crimetime
After Primetime" block in the mid 1990s. Geraint Wyn Davies, who played
Nick Knight, the Toronto cop and tortured vampire who wanted to become
mortal, will host a two-night, 16-episode marathon beginning at 8 p.m.
Fans of "True Blood" and "Twilight" may be interested to see a vampire
glamoring people back in 1992.

Also, the schedule for the marathon is as follows (I don't think it's been
posted):

Tuesday

For I Have Sinned
Feeding the Beast
Stranger Than Fiction
The Fix
Blood Money
Partners of the Month
Curiouser & Curiouser
Near Death

Wednesday

Dark Knight
Dark Knight: The Second Chapter
Only the Lonely
Killer Instinct
Be My Valentine
A More Permanent Hell
Baby, Baby
Close Call

01) ah the many uses of the whammy. Course, Natalie would punch Nick in the
shoulder for doing that to the officer who got rundown in front of Tracy and
Reese.

2) Funny, I don't think I've ever noticed Nick getting the door on the Caddy
for Tracy before. That is interesting. I could definitely see Nick doing
that for Natalie. I could see him doing it for Tracy in an off-duty setting.
But, for Nick to do it when on-duty... Mmmph. I'm probably overanalyzing
things. It probably means nothing more than that Tracy and Nick have worked
together long enough to be comfortable together. Tracy knows that her gender
is not an issue to Nick. He was closest to the car so he reflexively got the
door for her and she reflexively allowed him to do it and neither really
noticed since they were both thinking about the case.

3) "So are you going to tell me why you are so familiar with biblical
quotes?" - Tracy.

"It is always a good idea to know what the other side is up to." - Nick.

Despite Nick's apparently great memory that we see in flash-backs I do have
difficulty believing he would remember chapter/verse for eight centuries.
That makes me think he's reread the Bible since crossing over. I wonder how
he pulled that feat off? Would a mass-produced bible from a book seller be OK
because it wasn't yet "holy"? Given that LaCroix has been held at bay by
basically two popsicle sticks held as a cross....I do find that questionable.
You would think Nick would have a difficulty time reading a book that should
burn him upon contact. Guess he could use chop-sticks to turn the pages.

4) "I serve NO ONE!" Such anger in LaCroix. Such Pride and Independence.

5) At the end, LaCroix will bend to the whims of his favorite son. Nick
demands he be taken to an exorcist...and LaCroix in the end indulges him.

6) LaCroix's anger at the demon claiming Nicholas, taking away LaCroix's
"creation. My Son" is interesting. Beneath the calm confidence, LaCroix
takes really poorly to someone stealing his "loved ones".

7) I like how natural Nigel made it look when LaCroix jumps away from the
crucifix stands that the priest brings over to Nick. I'm sure the scene was
rehearsed/shot several times, but he made it look entirely reflexive.

8) I'm not sure who is being bugged more by the excommunication...the demon
in Nick or LaCroix.

Or it might be that old chivalry thing. I bet Nick does it without
thinking for whom.

I question the chopstick cross more than the biblical quotes. Nick
probably would have studied the Bible quite intensively as a child/
young man back before 1228. It very likely was what he used to learn to
read. And since he was a nobleman (and he was in the service of the Pope
--> Lord Delabarre mentions the Holy See) he was probably educated by
monks. As for reading it --> he might have read a desanctified version.
But then Vachon lives in a church and doesn't go around smoldering. FK's
lack of inconsistency, you just gotta love it.

Just perfect.

The demon. He thrives on Nick's torn nature and suffers the rejection.
Lacroix isn't in conflict with himself.

Yikes, sorry for the over-quoting. It looked like only 4 lines before I hit
send. They were long (very) lines though.

If you aren't sure about joining in the card exchange, as an added bonus, I
write a story just for the card exchange. Not posted, not archived anywhere
else. (That assumes, of course that you like my writing! :)

I gotta say that the card exchange gives my place more of a festive feel than
just about anything else...cards everywhere. I ordered photo cards this year
and return address labels. =)
