I'll say. It took LaCroix and Natalie together to extract Nick from this one. - "the bullet glanced off the good detective's very thick skull", amusing way LaCroix phrased that. - Even LaCroix couldn't make that ridiculous 1812 French hat look militant. - it is nice how quickly the writers let Natalie comprehend the seriousness of Nick having amnesia. You can tell from her face that she went in moments from realizing that Nick has amnesia to the danger that would pose to a man whose basic life is one long lie. - I enjoy how excited Natalie was at Nick eating chicken soup. Such a simple thing is so remarkable given what Nick is. This scene and the split-personality disorder of Hearts Of Darkness present some interesting insights to the FK vampires. Natalie is not entirely correct that vampirism is purely a physical "disease" (she has never categorized it that way...but it is clear she feels the root-cause is material). These two episodes alone point the way to a more metaphysical cause. Vampires are perhaps truly damned as opposed to simply afflicted. - now that is interesting...are we to assume that Nick is the actual originator of that Beethovan song? I have no concept...is Beethovan known to have not be able to play piano? If he couldn't play himself...it makes sense he would work with someone who could play to translate the music he was writing and check it to see how it sounded in the real world. - I admit to a little surprise that Natalie would leave Nick alone at the loft. She did say she'd look after him. Of course, if Natalie stayed it would make it hard for LaCroix to have his conversation with Nick. Also, the writers did cover the need neatly by having Natalie return with groceries. Nick's fridge must be a barren thing most of the time. - LaCroix's comment to Nick "I wish you to remember that you stayed with me so long of your own volition...you really do like me, you just don't know that you do" goes right to the heart of their relationship. However much the moral human side of Nick's soul despises LaCroix, the darker, less restrained side of Nick reveals in LaCroix's freedom and license. - Natalie can be very brave. Knowing what she does of LaCroix, she is very calm and resolute when she finally meets him. And it is amusing how tolerant of Natalie he is. He accepts her "ordering him around" with remarkable restraint. - oh, come on now. Reese doesn't notice that Nick's temple is completely unmarred when he is running the ID computer program only a day or so after being shot? Good gravy, the props people didn't even put the wound above Nick's hairline so Reese would think it was covered by hair. They put it right on the side of his head. Grumble. Grumble. Mutter. Mutter. - Nice twist that Tracy is the target instead of Nick. - "When you have a friend in the NightCrawler, who needs enemies?" Truer words were never spoken. I have no concept... I wondered about that at the time. >is Beethovan known to have not be able to play piano? No, he played. In fact, he conducted some of his works from the piano when he played it in the composition. There was a famous incident where he didn't know the audience was giving him a standing ovation until somene turned him to face them. That Beethoven piece they're playing is often used now in teaching new piano students. I wonder if we're supposed to assume Beethoven first taught Nick to play the piano? The period is right when the piano was coming into its own. We dio know from a remark of LaCroix's after hearing that Nick claims he has blood in his refrigerator to thicken his paints, "yes, Raphael taught him that." >- Natalie can be very brave. It was a standing joke in the first season that nobody ever noticed that there were bullet holes in Nick's clothes, but not in Nick. Actually it would be make-up that put the wound where it was. It _is_ weird, since even if it had been under his hair, said hair shouldn't have grown back so quickly. > McLisa McLisa@m....... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Nov 2009 10:03:40 -0800 From: Amanda Berendt <debrabant_foundation@y.......> Subject: Qween of Harps - Welsh? Okay, kind of out of the blue.. haven't posted on here in a looong time. I just rewatched Queen of Harps today, having not watched in years. I have been to Wales 3 times in the past year and now watching this, it just kind of bugged me that all the supposedly Welsh characters spoke with some weird Irish-Scottish-British-Canadian accent. No hint of a welsh accent anywhere... Ger came the closest even with his full Canadian accent. Yeah I know it is a bit nit-picky, but having some to adore the Welsh accent so much, I found it kind of funny. -Amanda "This dark gift brings enlightened sight, as if the sun's bright rays illuminate sweet mortal forms to take my breath away." http://www.darksideoftheglass.com http://lestat.darksideoftheglass.com ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 8 Nov 2009 to 10 Nov 2009 (#2009-192) **************************************************************
