I think either one or two years ago EW did feature Nick as one of their top vampires. It was an online list, not magazine based, but it was so great to see FK mentioned in a mainstream magazine. I believe it was mentioned on the list. If I can find the wording I'll post it. --Roxy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 2009 16:29:10 -0500 From: Roxana Elizondo <roxeliz@h.......> Subject: Re: episodes for first time viewers Libs wrote: > When I've actually been able to show a few episodes to potential fans, I > like to start with 'Be My Valentine' (hope I got that episode name right!) > and 'Fever.' > -Libs I'm going to steer away from the topic of the moment because I've always been interested in this particular issue. We all have our favorites when it comes to episodes but sometimes those favorites aren't necessarily the best episodes to initiate new fans. What guidelines do everyone go by? I personally start off with the one, two punch of the "Dark Knight" duo. I honestly believe FK hit the ground running when it came to the start of the series. Any of the first episodes are winners for me, especially "For I Have Sinned" and "Last Act". I also like to pick episodes that strongly feature the character dynamics. Season 2's "Hunters" or is it "Hunted"? Ack I always get those two confused, either way is great to showcase the Nick/Schanke partnership and LaCroix/Nick/Janette in the flashback. "Dying to Know You" is great for the Nick/Nat interaction and "Spin Doctor" is great for the Nick/Natalie/Schanke. Interesting stories are also first time viewer winners for me. "Baby, Baby" is great because it's such a unique story and Ger did a lovely job in his directorial debut. "Near Death" is another strong story episode. I love "Fever" but I feel awful introducing potential new fans the character of Screed only to have him die in the episode. I'd love to hear other fans thoughts. --Roxy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 2009 15:33:03 -0700 From: cindy clark <badwolf15895@s.......> Subject: Re: Fw: Recent FK mentions Kewl! You've got down exactly what I would have written. DK establishes most of the mythology right off the bat, includes a lot of the characteristic humor, shows Schanke's character pretty well, Nick's angst, LaCroix's evil grin -- it's probably as good a typical example of the series as any. FK hit the ground running and, with only a few stumbles, kept right on going. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roxana Elizondo" <roxeliz@h.......> > I'm going to steer away from the topic of the moment because I've always > been interested in this particular issue. > > I personally start off with the one, two punch of the "Dark Knight" duo. > I honestly believe FK hit the ground running when it came to the start of > the series. Subject: Re: episodes for first time viewers I choose "Fever" to show newbies because not only do I feel it is one of the best written episodes, it has a great social issue behind it. It touches on AIDs and in a round about way, homosexuality. Many of my friends are activists or at least support such causes. "Be My Valentine" just seems to grab a lot of newbies, I've discovered over the years. I think it is the interaction between LaCroix and Natalie. Of course I'd change the "first episode shown" if I thought a friend might be captivated by other episodes such as "Father's Day" or ... is it "Ashes to Ashes" (the one with LaCroix's past). --Libby ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 2009 19:07:22 -0500 From: Lisa Luksus <tokaara@c.......> Subject: Re: episodes for first time viewers At 06:10 PM 8/5/2009, libratsie@s....... typed these words: >Of course I'd change the "first episode shown" if I thought a friend might >be captivated by other episodes such as "Father's Day" or ... is it "Ashes >to Ashes" (the one with LaCroix's past). "A More Permanent Hell" had the main part of LC's backstory. "Ashes to Ashes" had more, where they showed him staking Divia & shoving her in that Egyptian tomb. (Can't imagine why *that* irritated her.) Two excellent LC episodes, to be sure. A local group was performing Sweeney Todd, and chose to share some of their bloody secrets with PD readers. ----- Original Message ---- From: Michele Azuddin <mobody@g.......> To: FORKNI-L@l.......
