This message forwarded on behalf of Marel <Frostsaint2@a.......> ------- Forwarded message follows ------- From: Frostsaint2@a....... Date sent: Sun, 10 Aug 2008 14:50:20 EDT Subject: PRAYER / Good thoughts? To: FORKNI-L@lists.psu.edu Owing to the recent discovery that I've had long-term exposure to asbestos, my doctor wants me to have chest x-rays as a precautionary measure. As I watched my mother, aunt and maternal grandfather pass away with lung cancer, I admit to feeling somewhat freaked at the situation. I'm going for the x-rays this Thursday, the 14th, and if anyone has some good thoughts to spare, I'd really appreciate them. Where would this lead when vampires make love and drink each other's blood on a regular basis? How would the metabolism know when to stop? It would need a careful dosage titration to find that out. Although I think that Sofia did experiment a bit (her line "I found a solution... etc" suggests that), I don't think she could have performed this range of trial and errors without anyone, particularly the Enforcers noticing. > Do you see Sofia shepherding the group around through the years, so they're always close to her for her "treatments"?< I think she doesn't need to shepherd them around. They depend on her if they want to keep their youth. So they probably stayed close on their own account. > And -- just curious -- would you guess they always called her "Doctor Jurgen," or would that be a recent change, as society became more accepting of women professionals?< That depends on how she had established herself when she met them. She obviously has success in treating them, so I don't see a reason why they should not call her "Doctor". As for the time frame, I estimate roughly that she started the treatments on Agnes, Bernice and Norma in the early 1950s (that would fit with Bernice's comment about the Calgary stampede after the war). Female doctors were not that uncommon anymore by that time. > ... Or did we just not meet all her patients?< Well, there are too many unknown variables to give an answer to this one. Agnes, Bernice and Norma seem to have known each other before they met Sofia. Maybe she saw something special in them to choose them, who knows? Perhaps she saw herself in them and did not want them to share her fate by being discarded due to age. > Schanke and Nick prove that Norma Dean had been collecting her pension; she had to have been old enough to earn that pension. If she had looked so young all those years she had been working, she would have had the same problems as an FK vampire in staying until retirement-age without question.< In order to collect a pension, all you need is a social security number, under which your employment data are filed. When you have reached the sufficent age, your pension will be handed out without the necessity of making a personal appearance at the agency. So no one should notice that the girls don't look their age.
